  1. It's sooo convenient, I love it. I am no longer on my hourly dosing and I am down to once a day as my shock process is complete! I am currently running it 30 minutes every day. One rule I have been trying to set up is a dosing rule to run after using the hot tub to give it to 150ml that Chem Geek has stated. The rule I have tried to set us was an automatic off timer. What I want is that when I manually turn the device on, that it automatically turns off after so many minutes (136 minutes in my case). My WEMO will only do the scheduled on/off or the auto off timer. I cant get it to do both.... Maybe yours will do it silversun?
  2. In order to get your pH more under control, you will need to get your TA down. Curious to know what your TA is. Most hot tubs do best with a TA around 50 and adding borates can help stabilize it, although that is optional. Here is great information on how to lower your TA... Lowering Total Alkalinity. I would start here. I personally have a PinPoint pH meter I use when I am lowering my TA so I can see the quick change in pH going down and when it comes back up. What is your TA? What did you use to test it? Test strips are not very reliant...
  3. Your TA in general should not be fluctuating. It will tend to go up over time as you keep topping off your Hot Tub. You do what you need to do to bring the TA down to 50-60ppm so your pH stabilizes or just has a slow upward drift. I would suggest redoing your test, possibly new tester error?
  4. I think if it were me, I would get some Ah Some and do another decontamination on it.
  5. Silversun - You can certainly program it to only deliver when the tub is circulating, you just need to know when that is (not hard to figure out). Mine is currently programed to run once an hour during the hours of 5am to 9pm. I am doing it hourly because I am shocking and I leave it off from 9p to 5a just to see how much chlorine was consumed during that time. You can see my timer rules below. With the WEMO, you can easily program it when you want it to run. but you have to keep in mind it is slow, at 1.1mL per minute. If you were dosing once per day, you could very well need to run the pump from 15 minutes to 1 hour daily curing your current filtering cycle, which would be easy to set up and do. Also, placing the filter line into the filter would be easy. You would need to just get an elbow and direct it into the skimmer. I have added a picture of a T piece, but you would need an elbow. I don't have an elbow. I would keep the tube above the water line. You wouldn't want any accidental syphoning down into your chlorine doser setup. My current setup is still temporary as I haven't decided if I want to continue it after the shocking process, although I do like the convenience it has created.
  6. When I first started doing this last week, I was trying to keep my spa on as I have been shocking. But the doser I am using is literally only 1.1ml per minute. It is literally a slow drip. I am only running this currently at 4 minutes every hour. My spa, when in its regular run mode, will run twice a day for 4 hours each. In between those cycles, the spa periodically kicks on (every 30 minutes) to keep the water at the desired temperature and it will run for 2 minutes thus periodically mixing the water. So for me, it is such a small amount coming out that I am not concerned about my pipes and it keeps getting mixed.
  7. I would target a TA of around 60-80 for a more stable pH. I used the pool calculator to determine amount of Borax to add to my Spa. http://www.troublefreepool.com/calc.html
  8. I to have the BRS 1.1 mL per hour doser. I just got back from a 2 week vacation and my daughter (22 yrs) had a hot tub party a few times while I was gone. I have been shocking since Sunday. I broke out the doser because I was adding a crazy amount of bleach just to keep it at shock level. I can say my chlorine demand is now decreasing, so I know I am going in the right direction. The highest I had it was 2 ppm per hour for about 12 hours on one day (a few days into shocking). I am now down to 0.5 ppm per hour. Anyway here is my temporary set up. I have it on a WEMO timer for the once per hour dosing. It is working well with the dosing.
  9. I guess that would depend on who you ask :) I have a Pinpoint pH meter that I use periodically in my hot tub. It is great when I am adjusting my TA. I put the acid in, aerate the heck out of it and watch the pH rise, add more acid. I find by having my pH meter I can more quickly adjust my TA. pH rises quicker and I don't have to wait the 30 minutes to test pH. If it is used all the time, it should be calibrated monthly.
  10. Here is a link to the pool calculator that you may find very useful. http://www.troublefreepool.com/calc.html Borate test strips http://www.amazon.com/Lamotte-Insta-Test-Borate-Strips/dp/B004KZNPL2 Here are instructions on how to add borates, but NOTE, they are for a pool. Use this info to get a general idea of how to do this. http://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/90257-Borates-Why-and-How
  11. Thanks for the details Chem Geek! Curious to know if that every person-hour soaking is a set amount of chlorine or MPS regardless of tub gallons.. This is independent of tub volume? Meaning it doesn't matter if I have a 200 gallon tub or a 500 gallon tub?
  12. I am curious what MPS really is and how it actually works in water chemistry. When does it get used? How often it should get used? Is there a way to measure it in the water? Do I add based on a level, or just add a static amount routinely? Is Potassium peroxymonosulfate MPS? Thanks
  13. So I have inherited a spa through the purchase of a house. I don't have access to the house yet as they are still moving out. I wanted them to maintain the hot tub till I took it over, but they have drained it. So now that I know it is drained, I am changing my plan for decontamination. I plan on doing Ah-Some for the purge. When I fill the tub with water for the Ah-Some treatment, do I have to balance the other water chemistries (i.e. pH, Alkalinity etc)? Thanks
