  1. Sorry, failed to mention there is an ozonator but am unsure it is functioning on the swim side (2045 gal) because FC has stayed elevated for days, while on the spa side (225 gal) I can be at 3ppm FC after a soak and 24 hours later it's maybe .5 (could be the fact it's 102 deg. also). I also failed to mention the entire swim spa stays covered with a 5/3 insulated cover at all times except in use. I think once I turn the heat down on both sides to 80 deg. and bring the FC level up to 10-15, it should be OK for these 7 days. Thanks for your expertise ChemGeek, you are the man.
  2. I will be going away for 7 days and would like to know how or what to do to prepare our swim spa for non-use and no monitoring. I assume lowering the water temperature to their lowest settings (80 degrees) will help in keeping the sanitizer level more stable? We normally keep our FC level in both chambers at 3ppm For the spa side which regularly is set at 102 degrees, it usually drops to .5 to 1 ppm in 24 hours. 1 person soaks for 15 min. For the swim side which regularly is set at 89 degrees, I usually only add bleach every other day (5 oz) and usually stays between 2-3 ppm after the 48 hours. 1 person swims for 15 min each day. So my question or concern is, should I add enough bleach to help it last for 7 days without use? If so, what would you suggest? For more clarification as to volume and such, it's in the signature. I appreciate any and all suggestions on what to do to keep the water staying clear and usable upon return (after re-heating anyway). Best Regards, LakeLizard
  3. @chem geek, Given my readings from above, am using bleach as my sanitizer maintaining 3-4 FC and <.5 CC. Usually swim for 15 -20 min on the 2045 gallon side on average 3X per week, then soak for bout 15 min in the 225 gallon side fight afterwards. Am I understanding that I should be using oxidizer in addition to bleach? If so, what's your recommendation for frequency of oxidizer given the parameters mentioned herein? Not seeing a formula in pool math to help with amounts and results. Super happy with the crystal clear water and the feel so don't want to knock anything out of balance with excessive oxidizer. Thanks again for your patience and explanations. LakeLizard
  4. @chem geek Unfortunately due to what I assume were inaccurate CH readings from my previous Lamotte test kit, I had increased the CH levels in both chambers. My next water change in a few weeks, I will likely end up with much lower CH levels. There is very minimal water exchange between the two chambers, maybe up to ½ gallon either way due to vigorous swim or when two or more soak in the spa side (spill over). The swimspa is fiberglass (I assume) so there is no plaster or grout to be of concern. As mentioned, when I change the water in a few weeks, my readings will be more in line. Water balance can be very challenging when relying on an electronic tester you assume to be accurate. Now that I have a Taylor T-100 kit, I look forward to more favorable results.. Thanks again for your wisdom. LakeLizard
  5. Thanks chem geek. I've made some adjustments and would like confirmation if you (or anyone) please; Spa Side - 225 gallons at 102 degrees FC-4 PH-7.5 TA-50 CH-350 CYA-50 Borate-50 Swim Side - 2045 gallons at 89 degrees FC-4 PH-7.4 TA-50 CH-400 CYA-50 Borate-50 Hopefully I've finally hit the "sweet spot"? Thanks again for all the great advice and explanations. LakeLizard
  6. I read on another websight, to reduce calcium hardness to use Trisodium Phosphate. Has anyone used this for this purpose? What if any problems may this cause? Is this recommended or not? Continue to appreciate y'alls help. Lake Lizard
  7. Per my signature, I have an H2X SwimSpa so I understand this is though of as a large hot tub/spa? The question/clarification I have is when setting up pool math; do I use "traditional spa" or troublefreepool.com" goals? I am currently using 8.25% bleach as my sanitizer. The other question I have is; according to pool math plugging in my actual readings, the CSI states the spa water "balanced" 0.05. Here are my current readings; FC-4.5 PH-7.5 TA-80 CH-400 CYA-50 Borate-50 Temp-89 deg Using goals for trouble free pool.com Should I be concerned about the CH being at 400 even though CSI says "balanced" Just looking for validation, if you will. Thank you, LakeLizard
  8. @Newbie I too am getting ready to use the Ahh-Some Hot Tub Cleaner and after reading it's detailed instructions, regarding the left behind film, they say to mix a ⅛ teaspoon with 32 oz of water in a spray bottle and use this mixture to clean the shell, seats, water line, etc. Here is the link for further details: http://ahh-some.com/docs/instructions_Ahh-Some_HotTub.pdf Hope this helps. 9. I originally posted this in the Swim Spa section but got no replies so I thought I would try this post? I have a H2X 19' Trainer Deep SwimSpa, Model 1270. ECO PUR water filter system. 231" X 94" X 60". SwimSpa. Spa side capacity = 225 gallons, Swim side capacity = 2045 for a total capacity of 2270 gallons. Ozone system, 4 pumps, 48 jets. Question #1 Should I always run the pumps for a time before pulling a sample of water to be tested? or is it best to pull the sample before pumps run (they run every 30 min for 30 sec to check H2O temp)? Question #2 Because this unit has two separate chambers (spa side and swim side), with varied temps (102 spa side and 88 swim side), should I keep readings the same for both? (I have read that more aeration causes PH to spike) Clarification Question #3 Boric acid - PH stabilizer and water softener per se? Question #4 IYO, what is the most effective product to use when I drain the unit? I appreciate any and all suggestions/recommendations, LakeLizard
