  1. OK, 1998 model Hot Spot RLX ZQ ser 381166 I purchased this used from someone else. OK on the voltages. I have a idea that something on the circuit board that controls things may be defective. I know there is a Darlington DIP transistor on there and another larger chip that is labeled 53A4h and it has 28 legs however I have not been able to find out what it is. I would put a picture of the circuit board on here but I haven't been able to find out how to upload a photo to this site. I can use the tub as is since the heater is working and I don't mind even just sitting in it with just the low speed mode going. Thanks for the info.
  2. The hot tub is a 1998 model but in excellent condition. The voltage at my electrical panel on the breaker that supplies current to the tub is 118V. I checked the voltages on the main board and all 4 wires to the motor had voltage, so whatever tells the system what to do is telling both high speed and low speed to run. The wires to the motor had slightly varying voltages but all 115V or better. What I did was to pull the high speed wire from the circuit board and now it is running on low speed OK. So I might just leave it that way or wire another switch in to let me toggle in the high speed line. I know there are a couple of DIP chips on board and one Mosfet so most likely it's one of those that is the culprit but I have no schematic or instructions on what does what on the board. I do have 115V going to the heater, this was after a 10 minute delay so it's heating on low speed OK.
  3. There was a lid on the bottom of the aluminum box so I removed it to take a look inside and the terminals for the heater are in there so it is part of the heater. I checked the relays on the circuit board by applying 12V to the coils and they all actuate OK and there is continuity between the contacts when the relay is energized so they appear to be OK. I guess there is something in a processor chip that tells the pump to run on low speed or high speed. Seems that all I can get it the high speed mode even if I disconnect power to the tub and turn it back on I still only get high speed. Funny because when I first acquired it low speed was the only thing that worked and if I tried high speed it would trip the breaker, now it runs OK on high but no low. It does heat though when running on high so I can live with it that way.
  4. OK, the serial number is ZQ381166. I have a picture of the box but don't see how to post it on here? According to a lady at your place it's a 1998 model.
  5. There is an aluminum box attached to the bottom side of the heater with some wires running into the end. Does anyone know what this box might be? the box is about 3"X4"X10" or so. Also how do you tell if you are running on high speed or not? If I push the jets button twice I get water flow and I can add air with the control knob. If I push the jets button to turn it off then I have to push the button twice to get it to run. Also it is running for a couple of hours and then just quitting, it doesn't trip the breaker but just stops and then I can push the jets button twice again and it will start up. The temp is about 100.
  6. Thanks, yes I'm on a 115V 15amp house line but I don't think anything else is using the same line. I don't have an easy way to run a dedicated line to this outlet. I'm pretty happy just using the low speed and enjoying the hot water soak.
  7. I have a Hot Spot RLX ZQ model, the pump runs fine on low speed and sounds normal and has been running for a couple of days but if I switch it to high speed it sounds like it's straining and will trip the breaker after 15 to 20 seconds. I have the air control on MAX.
  8. Thanks, don't see any evidence of overheated wiring, my power cord is plugged directly into a 15amp house service, I could possibly replace the mini-breaker for a try at that or just soak in the hot water on low speed!
  9. I just purchased a used RLX ZQ 381166. The problem I have is that it runs fine on low speed and heats the water but when I push the Jets button for high speed it trips the "mini-breaker" almost instantly. I can wait 30 seconds or so and reset it and run it on low speed and everything is just fine. What is most likely the cause of this?
