  1. I have a 2005 Nahanni Glacier Gold hot tub. earlier this year we were away for a few months and while I was gone a relative drained the tub so it sat empty for about month. We filled it when we got back, I used the Aaahhh stuff to try and kill any biofilm, there was minor scum/foam that appeared but way less than I expected. Since then we were called away again, and just got back, and the water wasn't being treated while we were gone (we have a bromine system). It's been about a month, and when I lifted the cover to see what's been happening the water is clear but there is a mold smell. The cover is new (just a couple of months old, and has a cover cap). The filter was new. There is no debris or anything in the tub and we had only used maybe 4 times before we left. We are back now with no travel in the foreseeable. I need to get the tub back to optimum, so want to know how to go about that. I am in Canada and can't find anywhere that ships the Taylor 2106 kit here (I believe that's the best kit we should be using for a bromine tub). I have just emailed the Canadian Taylor distributor and asked if they stock it or can obtain as its not on their site. Waiting to hear back. In the interim I'd like to know what I need to go out and buy to get this tub sorted. And how much of each item for both startup again and ongoing. I have my manual but it doesn't list the volume of the tub and I can't remember. It's a 4- 6 person tub if I remember correctly (5 seats and a recliner). I'd love any help advice (I am not going to drain the tub until I get the test kit, might as well at this point, then will use the Ahhh stuff before draining (but I think I need to get the water treated first?). If any Canadians can chime in that would be helpful as you'll know what is available here that might be different or restricted than in the US but any help is welcome! Thanks S.
  2. Thanks all - I have only had a chance to skim the responses but greatly appreciate you all chiming in. I will check in after work tonight and follow up with your posts and recommendations - definitely some food for thought at work today though!
  3. especially since I don't know what a baqua system is thanks MHG - any suggestions on what action to take when emptying the tub this weekend? what I should use to get those pipes and drains clear of anything that built up while it was down? with the aqua finesse do I get a sanitizer or have to look for that myself in tandem? TY!
  4. Help! I've had a maxx spa for about 7 years and in the last year even occasional use of the spa is causing me severe discomfort - major rash and itching after use even with immediate shower. I am the only one with it so it's me not the tub. We hadn't been using the tub much earlier in the year as we were both away for work. I drained it, and last weekend cleaned everything down with vinegar, tub, cover (inside and out etc.). We used the tub on the weekend with friends and now several days later I want to peel my skin off We use bromine to manage it and after spending the last couple of days trying to research a system that will be more gentle on my skin I have learned some things but have also have questions. I realize I need a test kit of some kind - we were just using test sticks and apparently I should be getting more information than just colour matching the test strips. I will replace both filters - when refilling I used the clean one we had stored and tossed the other one - I think I should be safe and get new ones (husband cleaned the one that is in there now, not sure how great a job he did). Does anyone have a very gentle on skin system they are using successfully? I've read about Aquafinesse in different posts on here but then see people be brought to task and asked why not just use chlorine or bromine as the full system if you have to supplement the Aquafinesse anyway - it appears using a full chlorine or bromine only system is not an option for me right now unless my skin becomes less sensitive (not likely for a few years anyway). Chlorine is probably not a good supplement for whatever system we end up going with as we are both frequently away for work and while weekly checks would work, daily would not. I need to drain the tub to switch to whatever system I try for my skin - I want to get the pipes a really deep clean as that wasn't done before - what is recommended for this purpose? Might as well do it now when draining anyway. We will use the tub approx. 2-3 times a week, either me in there for about 30-60 mins two or three times a week, or both of us for 40 mins or so no more than 3 times a week. Help please! Lots of info on here but I really don't want the tub to become a part time job with a minor in chemistry so something I can manage easily with weekly checks or have someone drop in to check for me if we are away longer than a week. Myself and my skin are thankful in advance!!
