  1. We still LOVE our Coast Spa and would highly recommend. Ours has a 5HP and a 7HP and this past winter the 5HP gave up the ghost. Fortunately my husband is a millwright so was able to repair it (not easily in the winter - many set backs!) so it did save us the $750 for a new one. Overall - the spa is still awesome & we did buy a new cover for it this year. Other than the cover, pump & one new headrest - that's it for maintenance so far after all these years!! We are really happy with our purchase & when the time comes to replace it will be Coast #1. It has been zero aggravation and works as promised even with the huge temperature swings we get here in Ontario, Canada. It has far exceeded our expectations. Purchased November 2012 - Coast Radiance Curve. Still looks like new - water changes every 3 months (seasonally).

  3. We have had our Coast spa for 14 months now and still love it! We are in Canada so going less than full foam was not an option - especially this year! We also like the higher walls as they help to shelter us from the strong winds we have here frequently. The foam does make the spa feel very solid - the floor doesn't move at all and I believe it does help with heat retention. At minus 15 C we still only generally lose 1 degree an hour unless it is extremely windy. Hope this helps!
  4. I love my Coast spa & my most expensive electricity bill was February when it was really cold this year here in Ontario. It added $150 to my usual February bill but that was maintaining the heat at 102 for 24 hours as well as filtering for 10 hours out of 24. My other bills have been far lower maintaining the spa at those same settings when the outside temperature was warmer. It is not a vanishing edge but rather a curve spa. I could set it for economy mode but I like the convenience of knowing it is ready whatever time of day I choose to use it and I am willing to pay for that. Spa Guru - at $10,000+ for many of their spas I do not consider Coast Spas to be a low-end, big box manufacturer! My local dealer sells exclusively Coast and has serviced me well - the way I expect to be treated by a long-time family business dealing in spas & pools! BTW - I looked at Hot Springs and Sundance as well as Coast at the time and after the wet tests I knew that the Coast was the one for me! The other dealers in my area also didn't impress me either.
  5. As a Canadian on this forum - I thought triclosan was already banned here in Canada - I got all the soaps and sanitizers containing it out of my house quite a while ago. I suspect it still exists in places I haven't found yet! Thank you Waterbear for letting me know that isn't the case as of yet! I hope it will be soon as I was one of the unlucky ones to get a superbug 6 months ago. I would have run the other way if it was in the spa I was buying!
  6. Hi - all of the info on this forum is a great help! From researching which tub to buy to looking after it now that I have it! I have printed off both the decontamination and bromine for beginners stickies and plan to follow the instructions exactly as posted. I am going to drain & refill the tub within the next two weeks (weather permitting) as my TDS is at 1850. My sodium bromide is supposed to arrive Friday by mail order. Since the tub is only two months old but I did have an issue with algae 6 weeks ago and now the mystery green water with good numbers that no one here or my dealer can explain - should I do the decontamination now or just do a drain/refill? With it being winter - I would prefer just to drain & refill now but I don't want to risk not having the perfect water I am after! Any thoughts on this would be appreciated! Thank you!
  7. I finally found it http://www.hottubessentials.ca/bromine-generator-sodium-bromide.html I just ordered it so I will be good to go for the next water change when the weather warms up! Hopefully others in Ontario will have an easier time finding it!
  8. I finally found Sodium Bromide!! It comes by mail order out of BC - http://www.hottubessentials.ca/bromine-generator-sodium-bromide Finding this was almost as big of a frustration as getting my Taylor Test kit but now I will be all set for my next water change which will be when the weather returns above freezing! It will be nice to see my green water go down the drain (as pictured in my profile pic) - no one was ever able to help me figure out that mystery either on this forum or at the spa dealer
  9. I just tried ordering from Pool Geek but they don't ship to Canada either. They list Province & Country on the shipping form then don't let you enter anything other than US.
  10. I have been trying to find Sodium Bromide - Amazon.com will not ship it to Ontario, Canada. Amazon.ca does not seem to carry it at all. This is the same fun I had trying to get a Taylor Test kit. I finally had it shipped to my brother in NY and he brought it on the plane when he came at Christmas. I guess I will try to find it in Buffalo the next time I go down. If anyone knows where to get it in Ontario - please let me know! Thank you for your help!

  12. I took the water to the dealer today and they are stumped as well. All my numbers were fine and they tested for copper too. They had no idea what is causing it - they hadn't seen this before. I guess I will wait for the next warm day to drain it - won't be this week -20 C all week
  13. I just took a picture of it now. However I cannot figure out how to post it to this reply so I have changed it to my profile picture instead! If someone can let me know how to add it to a reply - I have seen others add pictures - that would be appreciated as well!
  14. Thank you for responding - I am using well water but when I had it tested at the dealer before I added anything to it, the dealer told me it was the best water she had ever tested - far better than the city water around me. The TDS at that time was 80. She said city water was usually around 500. The last time it was tested the TDS was 800 - not that long ago. I did have an algae outbreak 6 weeks ago when I was having trouble getting the bromine to bank. At that time - I shocked it and filtered it for 24 hours for 3 days - wiping the tub and cleaning the filter every day. The tub was used heavily at that time - and did get rain water in it while I was using it. I chalked it up to not enough sanitizer at the time. I have topped the water up twice in the last 2 months. Could it be possible that it is copper? I have seen the water in town turn green before because of that - I know someone who drives a water truck for cisterns and he said periodically copper is a problem in town. Would the spa dealer be able to check for that? My dealer is an hour away from my house so I try not to drive in there too often. Thank you for your help.
  15. Hi - I wrote this out yesterday but for some reason it was gone today. Anyway, I have had the Coast Radiance 450 gallon tub for 2 months now. At first all I had was test strips but a month ago I got the Taylor Test kit. For the last month my testing has yielded these numbers: Bromine 4.75 PH 7.8 Alkalinity 80 Calcium Hardness 150 I use the floating Brominator and use 1/2 to 1 capful Bromine booster after each soak. I use it roughly every second day with 1 - 2 bathers for about an hour. For some reason it seems I have algae. I have shocked it yesterday and today with pool chlorine I have. I am baffled by why I had this problem when my numbers were all within the recommended ranges? I had the algae problem over a month ago when all I had was test strips and my bromine was swinging from 0 - 15. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!
  16. I turned my Coast Radiance filter cycle down to run 6 hours during the cheapest hydro time (at night) and just run it one hour during the expensive hydro time. My water has been perfect (since I got my Taylor test kit & could balance it properly!) but my tub has been used heavily lately. Now with the holidays over and usage dropping off, I am going to turn the cycle back to 4 hours at night and leave the one during the day to see how that works. I don't know if you are in Canada - but my dealer explained that the $20/month was an average - almost nothing in May - August and much more expensive in the winter. She also was good enough to give me the heads up about the filter cycle default right away as even she said the 12 hours it was programmed for was way more than is normally needed. Good luck with getting your hydro down!
  17. I bought the Coast Radiance & had it delivered Nov. 30. I love it! After narrowing the search to Coast, Hot Springs and Sundance I chose the Coast as being the right one for me. The Hot Springs seats felt uncomfortable - there seemed to be a ridge that dug into the back of my knees I didn't like. The Sundance wasn't deep enough for my liking. I am in Canada with cold winters and the 2 deep seats in the Coast have been much appreciated during the chilly evenings in the snow! I also really like the waterfall for sitting in as an "in between" the deep seats and shallow - it also has really awesome back jets under it I was also impressed with the quality of the insulation and cover and the two pumps. The warranty was also in line with the other manufacturers and I liked our local dealer. Hope this helps!
  18. Hi egclassic - thank you for your reply! Sodium Bromide is not available at my spa store - I live in a rural area without a lot of choices! The spa store told me they just recommended the tablets and booster. Sodium bromide is now on my list for the next time I head to the US - with all the new chemical laws here we can't buy anything anymore! Thank you for the decontamination tip - I will see if the spa store sells any of the recommended products for it - if not, I will add those to my US list too.
  19. First I want to thank everyone for all their help on this forum - it truly is an awesome resource! Three weeks ago my Coast Radiance arrived and we love it. However, we are set up with Bromine Tablets and Bromine Booster from the spa store and I just haven't been able to build up a bromine bank. The first 2 weeks it was always below 3 then last weekend it had an algae bloom and turned green and cloudy. I shocked it with pool chlorine and it solved the algae problem but then even with the bromine dispenser open as wide as it goes - the level went from 10 to below 3 again overnight. We are using the spa heavily - at least one hour per day - 2 to 3 people. I am using test strips so far - we live in Canada and for some reason Amazon refuses to deliver a Taylor Test kit to us. I found one store in Montreal that had them for $120 but on Amazon it was $53. I ended up ordering it to be delivered to my brother in New York so it should be arriving with him at my place by Christmas. Hopefully that will help, but what an exercise in frustration! In a desperate attempt to bring the bromine up to around 5 - I put 2 tablets in the skimmer basket. It came back up - 15 yesterday! Any tips on how to get this to regulate to a normal level? The ph etc. is ok. Thanks for any help you can give me!
