  1. Using a Taylor k-2106 My PH today is an 8, with 1 drop of acid demand. My TA is 90. Do I need to lower my PH? If so, how could I withought lowering my TA? My water temp was 91. I have a bit of a hard time with the CH test....as in when to stop counting, as the red turning to blue is really a matter of opinion. I had it down as 300, my pool store said 150. Today I would say 250. Thanks
  2. Thanks for replying. My question now is how best to deal with the cracks. Should I just seal them with silicone or something more like like a two part epoxy. Should I drill holes on each end, to keep the cracks from getting any longer, or use a dremel to open them up more to accept the repair material??? The former would be clear, the later would be a project.
  3. I recently picked up a used hot tub for cheap. After the move and install, I ended up replacing the controller/heater and fixing some leaks in hose connections. I got it up and running and two weeks later starting seeing black streaks that I thought were algae. After a couple weeks of battling (supposed) water battles, my son realized that where the spots are there are slight cracks in the acrylic. Now, I assume the black to be either mold, or something that was used to adhere the acrylic. How should I proceed? Do I need to repair the cracks (drill and route, patch) or just seal them and hope for the best?
  4. It seems I have the same problem as the OP. I wonder how this worked out.
  5. My son scrubbed the hot tub today and informed me that in alot of the places where the "algae" is, there are hairline crack.
  6. I bought a used tub and did not decontaminate at first. After two weeks I started seeing black streaks (about an inch long) in the seats and on the walls and my water was pretty foamy. So, I started over. I drained it, scrubbed it down and re-filled it using the bromine for beginners thread. A week later, the black spots were back. I bought a bottle of purge and ran it through, drained it, scrubbed it, filled it, and added bleach to 50 ppm.I let it run for an hour and drain and re-filled it. A week later, black spots. So, I went and got some black algae killer and added it per directions....no change. A couple days later I dosed it with algaecide again, pretty hard. It foamed up bad and I had alot of scum in the foam. So, I decided to purge it again, scrubbed it down, and refilled it. That was a week ago. Now, I have more black spots appearing. Algaecide again and it just caused foam that doesnt go away. I dumped it last night and am refilling today with the three step bromine for beginners (again). Can anyone offer any insight? I am at a total loss.
  7. It looks like I will have to glue a reducer bushing on the half inch hose and then use an inch and a half hose between it and the jet body. I have yet to find a hose large enough. Auto parts store here I come.
  8. Thanks for your help. I am going to try the hose trick for the time being and order some replacement jet bodies.
  9. Thanks for replying. Option 1 may work. Option 2 would probably require me to pull the jet body. If I went that route, I could just replace it and work on the old one at my leisure. That body just unscrews, and screw the new one on...with some sealant I suppose? I would like to get it up and running this weekend....is that a standard fitting?
  10. I have a hose leaking where it is glued in to the back of a jet (see photo). I tried a patch job but it didnt work. There is enough slack that I could replace the elbow and glue into it. Can anyone tell me what I am up against in pulling this elbow and replacing it?
