  1. Ok.. maybe I'll try the Nature2 stuff. I have some of this Spa Shock Xtra left, that is 58% Dichlor, 41% mystery meat. Is that ok to use as the shock, or should I get some real MPS? http://www.amazon.com/Spa-Shock-Xtra-Dichlor-Chlorine/dp/B00B1EM73W
  2. I saw some posts on here, but didn't really see one totally like my scenario. I travel most weekdays and only use my tub once or twice a week. Although sometimes I can go two weeks between uses. I read Nitros method, but doesn't seem like that will work with the amount of time I'm away. I don't really like bromine smell, but I may be convinced with a floater if it is the only way. I'd rather have too much chlorine than not enough. My skin isn't that sensitive. Nature2 doesn't seem that good, but again. Maybe it is OK. Any suggestions? I'm fine with dichlor and shocking, but just not sure if it's the way to go since I'm gone so much. I really need something with weekly maintenance or a floater.
  3. Hehe. Ok. Let me ask you this then, because now I really don't trust him. I was using chlorine and mps non chlorine shock. A few years ago, he sold me on Spa Essentials Spa Shock Xtra. This stuff: http://www.poolgeek.com/products/spa-essentials-spa-shock-xtra-6-lb He said it will shock like non chlorine shock, but has additional chlorine. I can see on the label it is about 50% discolor. Have no idea what the other 45% is. Have you used it or do you think it is ok? It does seem to help keep my Chlorine levels higher. Just not sure if it is any good as a shock.
  4. Anyone used this stuff? My local dealer was telling me about it. Seems expensive, but he claims it works great. I've been using chlorine for the last. 3-4 years.
  5. I have a pretty recent hot tub from 2013. It has 2 regular pumps and a 3rd recirculation pump. Someone told me the Recirculation pump doesn't use bearings , but I don't know this for sure. Anyway, this isn't our first tub. I noticed over the past 2 years, the pressure from the circulating pump wasn't great. It was fine with brand new filters, but even after less then 6 months on a newer filter that I was spraying off pretty frequently, the pressure would get worse. Without filters or with brand new, it seemed ok. Last month the recirculation pump stopped working completely. I had replaced the filter about a month before the pump died because pressure seemed bad. The pump was replaced under warranty and things seem to be much better now. The technician who came out looked at the filter and said they looked ok. The shop owner seems convinced that the only way the pump could have died was because of dirty filters. I think that a pump could die because of that, but wondering if there are other causes. Could the pump have been a dud from the beginning? Not disputing that dirty filters could cause a pump to fail. Just wondering if there are other possibilities.
  6. Anyone used Spa Essentials Spa Shock Xtra? It seems like this has 58% sodium Dichloro-s-triazinetrione Got our new tub a week ago and the dealer gave us this for shocking the tub, rather than an MPS Non-cholorine Shock. The tub has a Nature2 cartridge also. I usually use non-chlorine MPS shock. The manual for the tub, mentions using MPS non-chlorine shock too. I talked to the dealer and he really recommended this stuff. Anyone used this?
  7. Got the hot tub Delivered on 6/28/12. It has been great so far. Better than expected. It ended up coming with the following: -dual 6HP pumps -Cover/lifter/haul away old tub -LED light package -ozone with mixer -recirc ump -Nature2 stuff -Steps I hooked it up to the existing 50A GFI and it works fine. This tub seems like it is more insulated than my last tub. It takes a while for the temp to go down, when I lower it. I know its summer, but the old one would drop in one day. This one.. takes longer in the summer.
  8. I ended up taking delivery of the Spa on 6/28. It has been great so far. Better than expected.
  9. I was more hesitant because some of the things we talked about for the tub were verbal. I talked to the dealer and he said thought he sent me the order sheet. I guess that's where the breakdown was. I'm going to go in and verify that when I pay.
  10. I am purchasing an Artesian Hot Tub with a lot of add-ons from a local dealer. Many of them were discussed verbally and are not on the initial invoice. I put $2k down on it when I ordered the tub. They are supposed to be delivering it on Thursday (6/28). The owner of the shop asked if I could come in and pay the balance today (6/27) rather than waiting for the day of delivery. Initially I said "Yeah..that should be fine". I'm wondering if I should wait until it is delivered though. I've never bought anything from this shop, but the guy seems pretty trustworthy (which is why I bought from him). Should I wait or pay now? I'm thinking the safest thing for paying now, would be with a credit card. That would protect me a little. Not sure if that would help though, if he didn't include everything we talked about in the order for the tub though.
  11. Saw this cover at a town fair a few weeks ago. Seemed very sturdy. I don't need a cover yet though. http://www.rhinohottubcovers.com/
  12. No one have an Artisian? I guess they aren't as popular as Marquis, Hot Springs or Jacuzzi.
  13. I called Artesian. They said the Antigua is shipped from the factory with it set to use 42 amps. They said a 50 amp breaker is fine. They said that if I run everything at max then it would use 48 amps. Not sure how likely that is, but it seems like 50 amp should still be fine. I guess the 60 amp recommendation on their website that applies to all their models, might be more for the bigger tubs.
  14. Maybe they meant 30 years old.
  15. Ok. So I was reading some more. It looks like that in order to run everything at the same time, I will need a 60 amp gfci. Right now I have a 50 amp gfci in my main panel which is about 15 feet from the tub. Is putting In a 60 instead, simply a matter of changing out the breaker in the main panel? My wiring is already 4 or 6 gauge. I just want to know what to expect if I call an electrician.
  16. I was reading some things on the artesian web-site. I noticed that they say you need a 60amp GFCI. Anyone know if this is needed for all their models? I have a 50 amp from my previous Marquis and don't really want to get it changed.
  17. Ok.. so after struggling the last few weeks trying to stop leaks in my 1997 Marquis Recreation Series tub, I gave up. We went looking the last few days. The Marquis dealer was pretty good, but I'm not sure if I liked the e series of tubs. The Hot Springs/Caldera dealer was a little weird, but a nice enough guy. The Jacuzzi/sundance dealer was kind of slimy. We had to run away. I really like the guy running the Artesian dealer. Any idea if the following is an ok deal? $7400+tax for Artesian Antigua 52 jet dual 6hp pump upgraded exterior/interior add-on led package, waterfall and ozone with mixer (rather then regular ozone package). steps cover/cover lifter haul away old tub
  18. I have a 1997 marquis spa. I've been trying to fix leaks in it for the last 3 weeks. I plug one and another shows up. The current leak seems to be around where the container/canister that hold one of filters. This canister is screwed into the acrylic shell of the tub. I think it is probably leaking through one of the screw holes, or in between the PVC canister and the acrylic. If I remove all the screws and pull on the canister, I'm think I could lift it a little bit and put some kind of sealant in the screw holes and along the seam of the filter canister. What is normally use for this type of seal? Silicone? Any particular good type that I can get locally?
  19. I had something similar on my tub, it ended up being the control board. I replaced it myself. After taking out the old control board, I saw that there was a cold solder joint on it. I had already purchased a new one though. Maybe the pump or heater is trying to draw too much power or has a short or something. Not sure if there is anyway to test the control board without anything hooked up. If there is, then you could try it and hook up components separately to see if one of the devices attached to it is causing it to stop. I'm a consumer, so maybe one of the people who do this more regularly would have a better idea.
  20. If I decide to save up and go the new spa route, would I be better off with (84" Square Spas): Calspa 730L Marquis E-Series 530 or 545 Viking Supreme Royal (78 instead of 84") Viking Legend (86" square might be too big). Or an Artisian I really don't want a fancy spa. I also don't need tons of jets or fancy features. I don't care about LEDs or waterfalls. Just something that is decent quality.
  21. I have a 15 year old (1997) Marquis resort classic hot tub (84x84 w Lounger). It has 2 motors. Over the years I've replaced one motor. Replaced some gaskets. Last year I replaced the main circuit board. The ozonater is a 2 years old. The cover is falling apart (1 year left in it maybe). This year there was a leak towards the front panel in PVC. I repaired it with epoxy putty. Then filled it. Then I noticed the water level wasn't staying up. It looks like it is leaking back in a couple of places where the foam insulation is cover things. There is also a tiny bit of water (not even really dripping) coming out of the wet end of the secondary pump. I had back surgery recently so I can't really get under there and dig at the foam, otherwise I'd try and repair it myself. So at this point I'm going to try some FixaSeal. If that doesn't work, I have a few options. Just want some opinions: -have the local shop that sold it to me try and repair it. They have an initial service charge of $169 and then hourly. Then can give me an estimate during the initial hour. -get rid of the hot tub completely. Maybe see if someone will pick it up. Not sure if it is possible to chop it up and put it in with trash. -get a new tub. The local place in my town sells Marquis, Viking, CalSpas. Not sure if I want to spend the money on a new spa though. We use the spa, maybe once/week at the most. Is it worth trying to fix this older spa? If I can't, what do I do with it? Any opinions on Viking or CalSpas as lower cost spa to Marquis?
