  1. As far as I can remember the postage to get theTaylor kit from Spain ! to the UK was more than you pay for the kit in the US + the fact that the kit was several times the price you pay. Not to mention that this is a kit you need to be able to get replacements for. and when the distributor doesn't respond to your emails , it doesn't seem to be a serious contender in the UK. Sorry if this sounds like a rant..
  2. The Lamotte 7022 is the only real choice in my opinion, it costs about £80 + £10 p&p I use it for both a chlorine swimming pool and a bromine spa ( multiply reading by 2.25 for total bromine ) Individul chenmicals can be bought separately , I bought extra pH indicator FAS-DPD titratant and dpd powder. buying larger bottles of these is cheaper You can get it from Sword Scientific Ltd in the UK
  3. So is the pool grade more expensive due to the dealer added BS ?
  4. What do you intend to use a small pool for, sounds very much like it should be a swim spa, If you're still designing have you considered a swim jet. This is the one thing I'd like to add to my 18'x11'x 4' pool. and I think it is cheaper and easier to do this as you build, rather than afterwards. BTW I'm running this on the lines of a dichlor/beach spa.
  5. Hi My understanding is that sunlight destroys bromine, but what actually happens to it is it reduced back to bromide reserve or does it actually disappear ? Thanks
  6. I'm not even sure what the spa frog is, But the shock will have converted the Sodium Bromide reserve back to bromine , which is what you are testing for. Read Waterbear's "Bromine for Beginners" for more details http://www.poolspaforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=30249
  7. Isn't granular shock dichlor. If so you are adding lots of CYA. Bad idea me thinks.
  8. Lamotte 7022 from Sword Scientific , just multiply FC by 2.25 to get total Br ignore CC dpd3 test and CYA. See http://www.poolspaforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=33643&hl=&fromsearch=1 I use it for both my Chlorine Pool + Bromine Spa Oh , and don't say its too expensive , otherwise waterbear will swim the atlantic and eat you alive!!!!
  9. HornerXpress passed my details on to their agent in Barcelona, never heard a thing from them. I bought a 7022 lamotte from sword, thoroughly recommend it. I also have a FAS DPD from palintest + their SP315C which is tablet based. I prefer the drop test to the tablet , but OK. As waterbear says , It aint about the money. Using a quality product is far better than messing about with strips.
  10. BTW can you reduce the level with sodium thiosulfate ?
  11. I hope this isn't a stupid question, but ... If 12.5% bleach only lasts a month or so and 5% last 12months + why not dilute for storage purposes? I ask as I can buy liquid chlorine , but cannot find real bleach in the UK only perfumed thickened
  12. Hi Sounds like you've been through the same process that I went through 6 months ago . I ended up draining to take the siezed pump out , as the gate valves didn't close properly , but I had filled it with rain water off the swimming pool so I wasn't bothered. There is some debate as to wether spas are exempt from the hosepipe ban http://www.splashspas.co.uk/hosepipe-ban but i'm in the north-west , and its raining so I haven't followed this up. you haven't mentioned decontaminating the spa ,which is advised but that means a drain and refill. have a look on the Hot water tub chemistry stickies for Nitro's decontamination Dave
