  1. thanks pool clown for the reply. you actually recommended the black epoxy new style sensor to me two years ago and I replaced it and fixed my issues. but in addition to the voltage issue I got the same sensor error codes last September even with the cell off all season so I suspect the sensor has gone again. I see you can buy a 1400 kit with the cell and the sensor together. but the new style cell looks to be exactly what I have now with the three voltage pins so I wasn't thinking I had to replumb unless they have changed the dimensions somehow. I can't find anyone saying anything bad about the pentair system though so still debating.
  2. I have an Aquapure 1400 salt system and last summer the cell gave it up, working sometimes and not others from a loose voltage pin - got through the summer with chlorine and the cell turned to 00%. The cell was through 4.5 summers so thought I had one more summer based on the cum hour count - but I guess not. Debating whether to replace the cell (roughly $600) or invest in a completely new system ($1500+replumbing, rewiring - canada prices) that may be more reliable than the current one. I had to replace the flow sensor at roughly $200 and only got two years out of it, and now giving me the same error codes, so will need to replace again in combination with the cell. My local dealer recommends the Pentair Intellichlor system to be more reliable and has dropped selling the Aquapure. Says not to put any more money into it. By replacing the cell, I have chance of getting 4-5 seasons out the new cell and not have to replumb, but curious if anyone can back up their reliability claims of the Pentair system, or recommends a different system such as Zodiac.
  3. thanks for the reply. it's one of the outside pins. i'm not sure if the cell is still working when it gives me the 120 code, since it doesn't go into the cell reversing mode, just flashes the 120 with the yellow error code. as soon as i turn the cell to 00% the error light and code kick off. i've done the math and figure it's been on about 6,000 hours since installation, and ran the cell for only 8 hours a day at about 30%-40% and maintained salt at 3.3-3.4 so was hoping to get two more seasons out of it since i've read they should be good for 10,000 hours. you're right on the amperage draw. mine is wired at 115V and input is 2.5amps, output is is 22-30VDC 6amp maximum according to the manual. i know the real solution here is to replace the cell but at $600, like with most pool equipment, the question arises is will it work for a little longer....
  4. I have an Aquapre 1400 model purchased in 2008. On startup this year I noticed that one of the three voltage supply pins on the exterior of the cell is loose - as you can move it back and forth - which of course is not good The cell is acid cleaned about twice per season and was looking brand new before I started up in the spring. Thinking maybe it's still making electrical contact with the cell even though it's loose, I've tried a few times to turn the cell on, and it works for a few hours but then gives off a 120 error code, which I believe is a voltage issue - no big surprise. The question I guess is this considered a fatal cell problem, and I have no other choice but to replace the cell, or is it possible to macgyver the thing and take it apart and either weld or glue it. The new cells are about $600 so given I already replaced the sensor two years ago, I'm wary of investing more money into this system. My local shop stopped selling them in favour of the Pentair, and gave up on them because of all the sensor and cell failures. In the meantime, I'm just using chlorine.
  5. Ordered new flow sensor with black epoxy. And that did the trick. Back in business. For anyone else, i have the slotted type and the part # was R0452500. I ordered from Glenridge Pool Supplies for $185. I called and they said they are only shipping black ones. My local pool store confirmed they are seeing a lot of white epoxy sensors fail this summer. Thanks Pool Clown for the tip.
  6. thanks for the suggestion - that would explain it then. i feel a bit of an edge on the two shiny sensors, but not on the dull one. i tried scrubbing them again but to no avail. although the code 170 says front board - i'm feeling like it's the sensor - since before it went non-operational the "add salt" light flickered on and off although the salt was 3.1 and confirmed at the pool store. It now just stays in "Cell Reversing", cycles back and forth between Error Code 170 and the Chlorination %. The audible alarm goes off every 30s, but thankfully you can disable that by moving the jumpers on the front of the board -otherwise it would drive you insane. i guess i will try ordering a sensor since it's the cheapest part of the whole system and take a chance. do you know if all new replacement sensors have black epoxy or do i have to make sure before ordering - my current sensor was bought in August 2008 and is the round version.
  7. i have a three year old Aquapure 1400, cell reversing light steady - non operational with a 170 service code. 170 comes up as either a incoming voltage issue or a front board issue. I rewired the system completely recently adding in a heavy duty Intermatic pool timer, and it worked for two weeks fine, but after adding in a GFI outlet, it kicked in the error code after 24 hours. Nothing new has been introduced on the line in terms of load devices - operated for two years but rewired and all other devices are fine (heater, solar valve, pump, outlet). normal operation has been 10-20% on 24/7 - cell was acid cleaned a month ago before season start, which barely needed cleaning. I've taken out the flow sensor and used a kitchen sponge to scrub - two of the sensors are bright and shiny, the third is a bit dull metal. troubleshooting diagnostics: Transformer Voltage Backboard A to B: 77.4V (should be approx 75V) Backboard 1-8 77.2V (should be 75V); 2-7 68.8V (should be 65V); 3-6 20.6V (should be 21V) Front Board AC Voltage A to C: 20.7V (should be around 21VAC) Troubleshooting Front Board Salinity 2.9gpl (vs 2.8gpl) Pool Temperature: 74F (vs 75F) H Temp: 90F (vs 91F) I spoke to Jandy tech support and they said the board voltage all looked fine as did the three board diagnostics readings. All indicators points to either replacing the front board or the flow sensor - the question is which. The reco was to get a tech and just start replacing boards - which of course is the expensive option at least in Canada, since parts from a pool store here are about double the U.S. online price ) - although you only pay for what you need, plus the $100 service call. Does anyone in Canada know where to get Aquapure parts online from a Canadian source? Any other recommended ways to clean the flow sensor other than the green kitchen sponge? any other suggestions are appreciated.
  8. I also have the same question. did either of you get your problem resolved?
