  1. Thanks - I can test that and if it doesn't I'll just secure the hose ends and leave it alone.
  2. RD - Photo attached. Part number 70289. There are about 4 or 5 of these mounted at the top of the inside of the access area. I think they allow air to enter the jets but won't let water back flow if a jet is blocked. The leak was caused by one hose breaking off and dropping into the access area, I think it's just draining by gravity rather than under pressure. I found a second hose that had broken off of another air check valve some time ago but the hose had remained in place so wasn't leaking. Replacing these is kind of a pain but not impossible. My question is whether it's really needed. Clearly the one that had broken off before hasn't caused any problem for however long it's been that way. Thanks
  3. I have a fairly old Tiger River Bengal spa and just noticed a broken hose gushing water. Turns out it went up to one of the air check valves mounted at the top of the access panel. While looking for this I noticed that another of the air check valve hoses had broken off the fitting, apparently some time ago. This makes me wonder if these are necessary - can I just either block them off or leave them hanging? As the second one has apparently been broken for some time I can't imagine it's terribly important. Would be a lot easier than installing a new one. thanks
  4. Finished and working! I had to re-apply the Plast-aid as I'd missed a spot on the fitting and there was a minor leak. With that sealed, I tried to apply some spray foam and failed miserably. Some stuck but most of it just wouldn't stick and fell off. I figured it's not a big deal to have a little bit of pipe uninsulated so didn't try anything else. Got the tub back down on the cement pad but it was about 10" further out than I wanted it. Couldn't shove it by myself so I gave it some thought and ended up making some rollers from a piece of 1" dowel I had in the garage. Jacked up the tub, put 3 or 4 of the rollers under each side, and it moved easy as can be! Must be how they built the pyramids... It's heating now and will hopefully last a few more years. Thanks everyone, especially Spa_Guru, for the tips and advice. Hopefully not something I have to do again!
  5. Problem is solved... the little button was indeed the reset for the heater. I think when I first plugged it in after refilling the tub it tripped as there as air in the line and maybe it overheated before water circulated thru it.
  6. Got the leak fixed (I hope!) on my Bengal spa without killing myself, only to find after getting it back in place and full of water that it's not heating. Arrggh! Symptoms: Everything appears to work normally other than the heater. Circ pump is on and the jets work fine. There are two lights illuminated on the control board. I don't recall exactly what they say, but a green one is "Heating" and the other is red and something about LM. Spa operates on 120v. Power light is on and steady. I pulled the power wires to the heater and got 120v at the terminals. Checked resistance of the heater and got open circuit. Heater is a C3564-1 that's about 2 years old. I see it's got a manual reset. The only thing I saw was a little green pin that was sticking about 3/16" out of the end (wire side). I pushed this in - is this the reset?
  7. It's looking good! Got some Plast-aid, cleaned the fitting, and applied as Spa_guru recommended above. Gave it 30 mins to set, added water, and no leak! Now I just need to get some of the instant foam from Home Depot to fill the area I'd dug out, then lower the tub back down without killing myself or breaking anything. Will try that this weekend.
  8. OK I found it - what a pain to dig thru that foam, especially getting thru the toffee-colored outer layer! The leak is at a junction where a roughly 1 1/2" hose connects into a PVC fitting. Is the best way to fix this to simply slop a bunch of epoxy around the fitting? I've seen Plast-Aid mentioned as good stuff to use to do so.
  9. Well got step one done - it's up in the air! Thanks to Guru's tips and a bit of mechanical advantage from two automotive jacks the tub is now three cinder blocks high. Got some water in it and will start to dig into it tomorrow. This gives me access from both the bottom and sides - i think that since the leak appears to be at one of the bottom inlets I'll try going in from the bottom first. Bet that's going to be fun....
  10. Thanks. Dan, the leak is lower than that, the water has stopped with the level even with the bottom of the screened side inlet that's maybe 6" from the bottom.
  11. That is sounding a lot more attractive of an option the more I think about trying to fix it. That or just continuing to add water till it gets worse. I haven't seen your reasoning for Marquis and would like to as I have no idea which brands are better than others. Thx
  12. Thanks Guru - With the understanding that this is nuts, what's the alternative? Only two I can think of is 1) live with the leak, and 2) get a new tub. Any reasonable #3? thx - BB
  13. Hi - I have a roughly 13 year old Tiger River Bengal spa that is leaking and I'm trying to decide what to do. The leak was moderate, perhaps 1/2 an inch or so a day. Unfortunately the spa is mounted on a hillside so that only the front panel is accessable, all three other sides have retaining walls that prevent access. The leak is not in the equipment area, it's bone dry. It's also not from the two drains below the equipment area. I have let it drain down to see the level of the lean and thus far the water is down to only 3 inches deep or so, meaning that the leak is either at the bottom drain or the intake that's just off the bottom (the one covered by a cloth filter). Right now the water level is at the bottom of the side intake, but it may still be leaking. I'll know soon if it leaks below that level. So with the leak either at the very bottom or near that, what do I do? Neither of the two areas appear to be loose from the inside. Clearly I'll have to pull the tub out somehow to get underneath, but I have no idea what to expect or to look for. I presume it's full of foam that will need to be cut away. I'd appreciate any tips, including diagnosis, repair, and simple tricks on how to get the tub open so I can get to it. I don't even know how/if the side panels come off. Is this spa worth saving? I'd hate to fix the leak if this is a symptom of bigger problems. Thanks!
  14. I checked and there is no obstruction. But regardless of the ozone system there is no suction at the venturi. My understanding is that with the ozone tubing and valve removed there should be bubbles as air is sucked into the venturi - this does not happen.
  15. Hi - I just replaced the ozone chip in the generator for my Bengal spa and am not getting any bubbles into the tub. From what I've read this is due to 1) clog in the one way valve, 2) clog in the venturi, or 3) poor circulating pump. I eliminated #1 as I took off the entire plastic piping from the venturi - still no bubbles. I then eliminated #2 (??) by poking a paper clip into the venturi hole to make sure that it was clear (it is). I also blew into the venturi and bubbles appeared in the tub. This leads me to believe that the problem is then the circulation pump unless I'm missing something. I took out the pump and disassembled it - nothing at all clogging anything. Bench tested it and it spins apparently normally with no odd sounds. Put it back on and fired it up, it's clearly operating and moving water. I checked the rest of the plumbing and all seems fine. The venturi is clean and installed in the proper orientation for water flow. When the jet pump is on, I can feel a little suction from the venturi input, but when the jets are off and just the circulation pump is moving I can't detect any vacuum. What can it be?? Pump seems fine, venturi seems fine, and the other hoses are fine. thanks!
