  1. Well, the snow and cold arrived earlier this year and we wanted to try a thermal floating blanket from Roberts Hot Tubs for the Cameo. Anyone out there try one of these for their Cameo? Trying to figure if a 6' by 6' with a few 2 inch gaps around the scalloped inside edges is good enough to do the job or go with a 7' by 7' and get in the tub with the scissors. Thanks!
  2. We have a 2010 Sundance Cameo that has felt too hot all summer even though the temp has been to 95. We figured that because it was such a hot summer that it seemed to be too hot to enjoy the tub, even in the evening in northern Ohio. So now with cooler evenings, we decided to try it again, but it was too hot. Finally took a thermometer and measured the water temp. With the panel temp set at 96, the thermometer reading was 107! I didn't think this tub could go over 104. Just talked to the technician who is coming out to replace the temperature sensor in the filter area. He told me that the water temp could actually reach 114 before the "high end" temp sensor would switch the unit to watchdog mode. Just curious if anyone else has had this experience. New "normal" temp sensor is being installed tomorrow.
  3. Thanks again Waterbear! And roger that on the water change intervals. We filled it the first time in October and the winter was such a mother here and everywhere that we could not get it changed until March. We will be on the 3 month schedule from here on out. I'll have to look at the archives and see how it refilling goes with folks who have well water and a water softener. Maybe since we were new to this, it took damn near 2 months to get the water right and once it was right, I figured don't mess with it. Wrong figuring! Again, I appreciate your willingness to share your knowledge, JC
  4. OK Waterbear. I understand what you are saying. I will pick up a K-2006 and the K-2042 reagent you mentioned. So after using the new kit, is there an approx value of what CC should be or is CC irrelevant since we are using MPS? Thanks again!
  5. Waterbear, I meant the FC tested first, then test for TC and subtract it from FC to get CC. You already knew that though! :-)
  6. Thanks Waterbear, We put another 2 oz of chlorine shock in the tub last night and today the smell is gone. We have been putting in just 2 oz a week since the tub is used 3 or 4 time a week by 2 people. We are going to start putting the chlorine shock in the tub twice a week now. One question Waterbear if you please. We are testing the water with a Taylor K-1005 kit and we test the FC and then the FC and subtract it to get the CC which came out to 0. Any idea of what the CC should approx be with our system of Sun Purity, bi-weekly chlorine shock, and non chlorine shock after every use? Sure appreciate your help, JC
  7. One more question please. Since we used 2 cups of muriatic acid to bring the TA down to 150; could using this amount make the water foamy and smell odd? Thanks again, JC
  8. Hi all, We bought a Sundance Cameo (with ozonator) last fall and the first water fill went great and the water was within all chemical parameters and the no problems all winter. We figured every 6 months we should drain the water and refill and when we did, the TA tested 500, PH was 8.4, and chlorine was 1.5ppm. The spa store recommended adding Acid Magic to bring down the TA and it gradually came down as more and more was added. TA is now 150, CH is 225, PH is 7.8, and Chlorine shows 0. We are using Sun Purity cartridge, a chlorinating crystal shock every week, and shocking the spa after every use. Problem is, the water is now cloudy and foamy when the jets are on. Also, to me, the water smells slightly foul. Before I empty the thing, read Nitro's material, and start over; I wanted to see if that is necessary or if it just needs a good shock and clarifier. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, JC
  9. We bought a 2010 Cameo last fall and were in it this whole horrible winter. No problems with it at all from set up to now. Looked around at a bunch of tubs and tried out many. The lounge for me is superb and would enjoy it even if I would not have had 4 back surgeries. Only 4 in our family so lounge does not compromise the total space. Price was better in the fall; but we really did not start looking until late summer so we just got lucky with a good price at close out time. Lots of good info here and did much research. Good price or not; we still were going to settle on the Cameo. You should love it!
  10. Thanks again guys. Just read more of the manual and when this tub is in the Standard Mode, the default cycle on the Filter/Circulation Pump makes it turn on at midnight and run for 12 hours! If the recirc pump doesn't need to be on all that much, I am going to adjust those times. I'll try a few of these ideas and report back on this thread next month after the next electric bill arrives. It has been a colder than normal December and January in northern Ohio with lows in the single digits without wind chill. The bill may be higher than I thought it would be; but the hot tub is still surely worth the comfort!!
  11. Thanks to all for your insights. I am back in town and checking the filter settings today. I asked the salesman at Litehouse Pools what he would do and said to just leave everything at default settings. According to the user guide, these run times can be adjusted. I thought of just lowering the temperature on the panel to around 80 and then turning it back up to 102 when we use the tub since we only use it every other day when it is this crappy outside. Don't know if this would make any difference since no one mentioned it. Might just lose the savings by having to heat the water back up to 102. Again thanks!
  12. We are located near Akron Ohio and the temps have been from single digits at night to high 20's during the day. It will get much colder than that according to our history. We are paying 6.61 cents/KWH. According to the bill, we have used twice the number of KWH as last January which was without the tub. Just curious if anyone has found 1 good solution for getting the bill down or just sucking it up. It won't make us go broke, but the friendly salesman said our bill might go up around 20-25 dollars a month. I only half believed him though! Thanks again, JC
  13. Well, we have had our 2010 Sundance Cameo for about 3 months now and the first real electric bill arrived after 2 months of use. The former bill was $133 and this months' bill is $185. And that is only using it for an hour 4 times a week! My question is, what one thing have any of you guys done to try to keep the electric bill lower? Just say the hell with it? Buy a thermal blanket? Get a new cover that is thicker? Set the temperature lower when it is not in use? I know this is a question that has been probably beat to death; but after checking the archives, I couldn't find a definitive answer. Any suggestions would be a huge help and I thank you!
  14. To PFC5 and anyone else who may be interested in the rubber backed runner from Lowe's, I could not find a link for it on their web site, but do have the info for that item. The Lowe's item number is #71747 and the product name is Durawear Runner Steel Wool. It is on a roll that is 3' wide and they can cut it to whatever length you like. Price is $3 per foot. I agree with those who have tried to find items at Lowe's via their crappy search function. I gave up and just called the store. Anyway, this runner lies down flat and the wind does not move it around. it is even better when it is wet. When it snows, we shovel it off with a plastic shovel and if it does get a little icy or a lot of ice from dripping icicles, we throw down some ice melter and it works great without harming the runner or the deck. We figured if it just lasted the winter in northeast Ohio, that would be good enough until we maybe came up with a better plan for next winter. This winter has been a mother so far and this system is doing fine so far. Sure wish I could send along a picture. Good luck!
