  1. Quick question regarding Nitros approach which I've used for years and its worked perfectly. When doing the refill after the decon stage, can you balance the water when its cold or must you wait until its upto a decent temp? Our ground water comes out at roughly 8c. Previously I've waited until tub is upto 28-30c but wondering if I can increase TA/PH to its target a bit sooner.
  2. Hello Guys, I just refilled my hot tub and got the water balance slightly out, due to not compensating for aeration in the PH the first time I turned it on. My numbers are: TA 120 PH 8.0 (although I'm reducing this as I type, aiming for 7.6 with a target TA of 100, my figures from poolcalculator for perfect balance) CH 100 FC 10 I shocked the tub to 10ppm FC while the water was heating up, roughly at 33c, 24 hours later I checked to get my CD and the tub had used 6ppm over night and I had roughly somewhere between 0.5 to 0.75ppm CC, so I suspect there was something in the water, so I reshocked the next night and my demand is down to 5ppm FC, with 0 CC, but I'm hoping some of the chlorine was used oxidising, otherwise I think a CD of 5ppm is high after a refill, what do yous guys think? whats a good number for a CD after a refill? I had 3ppm in my head but its more of a guess from reading other threads. All the chlorine used so far is dichlor to help increase the CYA then ill be using bleach. Would another shock and some MPS help? although if my understanding is right, with 0 CC, then MPS isn't really required? is that true? Another question If I may and I know this one is very much dependent on each individual, but roughly, after using the hot tub, how much FC per person do you aim for? I know this is based on how much bacteria is introduced, more = more FC, and you just can't tell, so I'm really just looking to get a rough minimum number in my head, maybe a per person per hour basis, so far I've just been increasing the FC to roughly 10ppm after its been used and rechecking to ensure its not all being used too quickly!
  3. Thanks Chem Geek, I will have a read of these methods, get myself a test kit, then take it from there!
  4. Hello Guys, I'm new to hot tubs, we bought a house that had a hotspring summit 2006 model and I've been fighting with the chemicals for the past 6 months and finally when you think you have it sussed, something goes wrong... previously I had to replace the water due high stabalizer reading when I was wrongly treating the water but I sought advice from a hottub company. The past few days I noticed the PH and AK dropped, the stabalizer was in the ideal range on the ppm chart prior to be adding any chemicals to increase the ak/ph, I sorted the ak first and got that back into the ideal range, then I added 10 tea spoons of PH increaser, this brought the PH upto around 6.2ppm, still in the low range but the stabalizer went up 2-3 fold from in the ideal range, to around 150ppm in the high range. Is there a simple explanation for this? am I doing something stupidly wrong? p.s. I add chlorine granules daily and treat the water with non-chlorine shock once a week.
