  1. Some of the hi lights of the site above. might put kids at higher risk In addition, there is evidence that..... damage your DNA and increase your risk of cancer Researchers are still trying to understand how the body reacts to chlorinated water and DBPs. Unfortunately, there isn't any clear answer to this question
  2. The HTH test kit and many other sources say the only way to lower the CYA is to drain some water. My Pool is vinyl 5000 gal, soft water, Cal Hardness 150, DOES NOT LEAK, water 6 years old salt has gone from 3000 to 5400 ppm Why do I have to put More Cyanuric acid in Every start up and During the year to keep it around 40. By the way the pool is in great shape no problems with the water, just don't understand the lowering of the Cya. Sparky Found good answer here - - - >> http://www.poolforum.com/pf2/showthread.php/5762-Does-winter-(midwest)-impact-CYA-levels
  3. CYA is 45, Intex SWCG, FC-3, Vinyl, Above Ground Intex 15 foot I have increased the Chlorine time back to the summer time of 5 Hrs a day and It's looking better. I super chlorinated the Heater Lines and the Filter Pump lines also. Sparky
  4. Pink slime is not 'exotic' but it is difficult to kill. It requires high levels of chlorine and if your pool is vinyl the chlorine levels needed will probably bleach the vinyl. Once again, what type of SWCG do you have? Is the pool vinyl, fiberglass, or plaster? Is it inground or above ground?
  5. I run the Chlorine Generator for about 3 hrs in the PM then cover the pool. Fc starts about 10 and ends up at 1 the next evening. CYA was 40 the last time i had it tested. I have to add it all the time. someone in the pool store told me In a Salt water system the CYA keeps going down. Cuz its not being added with the tablets in the Floater. I do let the Fc get low this time of the year. In the summer I can leave it uncovered and let the Salt system run in Automatic. I Will get the CYA tested and Keep the Fc higher and try that. Thanks I thought it mite be some "Exotic" Slim. Sparky
  6. It Did it last year about this time. Its a Salt system 4000 gal. Average temp 85. Total Alk 100, Ph 7.6, Hardness 150, The Pool is great clear nothing on the walls or bottom. Not having any problems other than this. Any Ideas. The pool shops tell me they have never heard of Light pink Slime. The only Two Add-on Chemicals I put in are Clarifier=(Cationic Polymer)Keeps My 600-GPH 40 Watt pump filtering good, and HTH Super Algae Stop.
  7. Breakers get tired. I would replace it and go from there.
  8. Soft Soft Soft It will keep the plates in the salt system from having to be cleaned. Just switched over to soft bought a softener just for the pool and hot tub. After having trouble with the plates needing to be cleaned every day.
  9. I agree Are there any on the market. My $40 covers last one year. Someone must know of a good one out there.
  10. I installed a small INTEX Saltwater system. Works great 3 years now. I use the tub twice a day. I Run the system for 20 min when I get out. always clean NO chemicals, just a bit of acid once a week to keep the PH in range. Intex discontinued them but they are still on Ebay for $139.00. Intex now puts Copper IONS in the water and Chlorine, never messed with one of the new ones. The warning about green hair turned me off. Use soft water to keep the plates from building up Calcium. A Hardness of zero to 150 is great. Chemical cost is about $5.00 a year 3Cups of salt each water change. Also Hayward makes a small system (Goldline Hayward AquaTrol RJ Salt Chlorine Generator) its about $450 on ebay I'm going to use one of them if mine quits and I cant find Intex on Ebay any longer. I the system on my pool too, works great 100 Lbs of salt though $15 a year.
  11. It's the left over soap in your bathing suits from detergent washing. I had the same problem. Sparky
  12. Low TA in a Hot Tub is good. Normal TA and bubbles make the PH go up. I read this in another Forum some place tried it and it worked. My water supply is 125 TA when I change it(220 Gallons) I add about 2oz Muriatic Acid, test TA next day and add another 2oz that usually gets it down to 25 to 50 TA. Does not seem to hurt if it gets even lower I have had it down to 10 with no bad effects. After the two doses of Acid, Balance the PH with pH PLUS (sodium Carbonate) not (sodium bicarbonate which is baking soda)or the TA will go back up. Sparky
