  1. Nine years so far on a Costco/Strong Evolution hot tub. One pump (probably needed because of my over-chemical habits), and two covers needed during that time. I would definitely do it again.
  2. I'm no expert by any means but those appear to be check valves... one-way valves to prevent a reverse flow.
  3. I've had a Strong Spa (from Costco) since 2008 and am very happy with it. Had a couple of pumps go out but they were fixed promptly by Strong's agent (under warranty) with one phone call. I'd go for it. One pump leaked and one kind of disintegrated the impeller. Both, I might add, were brand names in the general market place... not Strong branded.
  4. The last time I had black (dark gray) particles, it was a pump impeller self-destructing.
  5. I have a high-end, two-pump-plus-air-pump Evolution from Costco and have been more than happy. I had a pump replaced under warranty and the service was flawless. I had to call the manufacturer instead of Costco but I couldn't tell the mileage difference over the phone. :-) Ii would do it again. BTW, i accidentally found some spa delivery guys at my local pool supply store and they uncrated and set the spa in place for $50. The initial delivery driver and his helper moved the spa from the end of my 50 foot driveway onto the patio for a $50 tip. The licensed electrician I found pulled a new 100 foot circuit (6 gauge copper stranded), including main panel breaker and new GFCI breaker box, for $700.
  6. Based on my limited experience, I believe they are for hooking dividing ropes... from deep end to shallow end.
  7. I used this company last time. Very good cover. Be sure to measure accurately and maybe twice. http://www.rhtubs.com/covers/cover-index.htm
  8. I've been using it (non-germicidal) for a couple of weeks now. No noticiable effects. I just use about 25% less than the old... about three ounces every other day instead of four ounces.
  9. I agree with the Craig's List ad for the old one. For the new one from Costco, ask the delivery guy if he can put the spa where you want it. I did... he did... and I tipped him an extra $50. He moved it about 75 feet.
  10. My Magnum 90 is at 1.5 years and doing just dandy!
  11. Yes you opened a can of worms. The folks who purchase at COSTCO/LOWES/HOM DEPOT are very defensive about their purchase. They somehow think they saved thousands over a local dealer and if you tell them that's simply not true they get all defensive. They saved a thousand or 2 dollars but got thousands lessor tub. There you go again. :-( I'm a very happy, Costco/Stong Spas purchaser.
  12. I've had the Evolution Magnum 90 from Costco for a year and a half now. I had one problem with a pump that was fixed with one phone call to Strong Spas. I would do it again!
  13. I have a Strong Magnum 90... love it and would definitely do it again!
  14. I've used boric acid as a stabilizer for the last year... about 16 ounces for a refill. After a refill, I work to get my TA down to about 50 with the pH in range. Usually takes about three to four days. Then I check the pH weekly with little changes shown. I use dry acid to reduce TA and pH. Then, I aerorate with the jets on high to raise Ph as needed. I also use the dicloride/bleach sanitizer method.
  15. Geez... give it a rest, roger. You're like a broken record... remember those? .
  16. Hmmm... PC worked for me. 12 ounces of 6% bleach ought to get you to 20 from 0.
  17. I bought a 15 pound tub from where waterbear stated. Was about $40 including shipping. Still a lot cheaper than $8-10 per eight ounces at the drug store. .
  18. Don't worry about the "low" alkalinity. PH is what you need to control. Mine typically runs 55 on alkalinity and 7.2-7.4 PH. About once every two weeks or so I check the PH and add dry acid as needed. I also use boric acid as a stabilizer... so that may be a difference you want to look at. About 16 ounces per fill.
  19. Hi, Rob. I have a Magnum 90 since March. Everything was and is fine... fired up as soon as I got the electrical hooked up. No problems since. BTW... I just asked and tipped the driver $75 to move the spa to my patio... about 50 feet down the driveway and 25 feet across the patio. If you ask the freight company in advance, they will quote you $300+ for the same. It took two very big/strong guys to tip it down from the shipping pallet. It worked but I would vote for at least three of those guys if I did it again. We laid it down on four PVC pipes and used those as rollers to get it into place.
  20. I dialed Phone number: 1.800.787.6649 and got no answer, no machine. Odd really. Then I remembered ... here are Chad's last two facebook posts, sorry Chad, but I think this is a worthy of a response: yesterday No power or water for 2 days today Still no electricity or water. Water not expected back on for at least 8 days. I'm in telecommunications, every business should have a disaster recovery policy. However, I do understand the situation, assuming the hurricane/flood is the culprit. I for one can't condemn them for this oversight. DK117 Some one from the company called me back within 2 hours of sending them an email, the person explained that the power and phones are out because of local flooding and the factory will be closed untill Monday. he also answered all me questions. I have since oreded the spa and now will be posting more questons on this forum so that I will know what I'm doing one it arrives in 4 to 6 weeks. Thanks You might want to be prepared for an early delivery. I got mine in 2.5 weeks from Strong... in Texas.
