  1. Looking for some recommendations on good online sources for Hotsprings parts. I have a Vanguard spa that needs a new cover and some jets. Thanks Matthew
  2. Ok, I have a small problem. Had a closer come in to close my pool and it was a huge mistake. WHen taking the step jet off, they proceeded to bread all the tabs off the Vari-Flo Ball retaining ring (SP1434PAKB) SP1434PAKB and now I'm left with no way to remove the vari-flo jet. Does anyone have any knowledge on how teh bulkhead fitting (SPX1434EA) SPX1434EA attaches to the Jet Air Body SP1434PAKA ? If I unscrew the bulkhead fitting wll I risk the body falling down on the other side of the steps? I'm hoping that the vari-flo ball jet/nozzle screws into the bulkhead fitting (SPX1434EA) SPX1434EA and not the Jet Air Body itself so I can unscrew one and they all come out together and I can just replace them once out. I'm in a jam and I'm not sure how to fix this one. Should have just done it myself. Matthew
  3. Scott I only have one ring that I put in the jet body. I wonder if I can order just the ring or if I have to order the whole assemby again. Doesnt seem to be a part number on the ring. Matt
  4. Trying to find an installation diagram of this variable jet for the steps. Cant seem to figure out if the clear plastic washer goes in the lock nut or in the pool fitting in the steps. Hayward doesnt even have a diagram online. Matthew
  5. I was looking at the same unit for my Vanguard since the Hotsprings FreahWater III is almost three times as much. Does anyone know if the FreahWater III is some super good unit that it costs so much?
  6. Digging with a small machine is a real pain, in a previous life I helped dig pools and using a small CAT, Kubota or Deere hoe takes forever since your dipper is not long enough to dig without being in the hole. Moving the dirt with a skid is a tough one also since you will be making countless trips to the street to load your dump. It can be done, but be prepared to pay three to four times the cost of a dig when you can use a full size track hoe. Make sure your digger is fully insured also, since working close quarters can lead to damage to yours or your neighbors house.
  7. You know you became the talk of the fire department with that one. I bet you were shocked at first then started laughing about it. Hope you had suits on!
  8. Replaced circ pump and all seems to work fine again. Time to address the ozone generator now. New tubing and a new check valve to start.
  9. If I take off the ozone hose at the injector, will I have a lot of water all over the place? Could that have any impact on the circ pump not working well?
  10. Ok, so I have a 2005 Vanguard V that is giving me some issues. I've talked to Watkins and also to a local shop that is useless unless I want to give them $200 for a house call. Anyway, the thermal fault is tripping and I'm getting the flashing red light of course. I think its the circ pump that is going since I have removed the filters and I still get the flashing red light. Watkins wanted me to clean the line for the ozone for some reason using vinegar and pulling the line off the ozone generator and putting it in a bottle of vinegar. Nothing happens since its not getting any vacuum that I can tell. I have some pics of the lines to ask if I remove the T at after the back flow device from the ozone, but I can't post images to the forum. If you have to remove the circ pump, will I have a huge flow of water before I can plug the lines with wine corks? Or should I drain it completely to work on it. I'm concerned since it is 20 degrees out and I'm not generating heat right now. Would the ozone have any impact of the flow to the circ pump since it just goes to the injector? I would really like to get the ozone fixed but I cant figure out how to get any vacuum to have it pull from a vinegar jar.
  11. I've inherited a Vanguard V and I'm replacing some of the beat items. I'm starting with the filters and decided to go on-line for those (the local dealer was $20 more and would not split the difference for me to buy locally). I decided on Tri-X filters so I can get 4 yrs out of them over the 2 yrs for paper. I Plan to replace the circ pump intake filter first but not sure how you tell which one that is. The manual doesnt tell you. One of the stand pipes also has some sort of cartridge in it. What is that and what would I ask for at the dealer to get it replaced. They wanted me to have a service call before they started selling me parts to make sure I was asking for the right products. I can tell already I need to find a new dealer.
  12. Still working ont his one guys and gals. I removed the filters since after running them through the dishwasher they still look a bit ratty. Not sure if the Tri-X filters are worth the cost since they can't be lifetime since the ones in my space are less than 5 to and they look pretty bad. ANyway, back to the moto massage seats. Filters removed and still no action at all. Can I assume the motomassage seat is just bad. I want to check the air valves next, but not sure how they are removed. Do you just pop the levers off and unbolt it. The manual and part break out dont tell me much.
  13. I have a 2005 Vanguard V with two Moto Massage seats and while both push water thru they dont seem to push any air and the 'massage' motion is gone. None f the lines look busted and I replaced the air lines this fall to both seats. Any ideas on what to check or is this how the moto massage seats fail. Also, has anyone on the forum replaced one, I would think that it is pretty easy.
  14. You can use either stranded or solid. THHN comes both ways. Make sure your THHN is actually dual rated THHN/THWN. Most that you can get today is. THHN "only" is not for wet locations (conduit outdoors is a wet location). Make sure you're derating properly for number of conductors in the conduit. Permit is required in many localities for a spa installation, and it's a good idea to get it... if for no other reason just to make sure your insurance won't disallow any future claims due to unpermitted work. That's for the help. I think the stranded will be easier to work with for sure. I do have the THHN/THWN. Not too worried about the permit, they want more for the permit than the tub cost me.
  15. Getting ready to hook up my new to me used tub and was checking out how it was originally wired. I used 6 AWG from my panel to the sub outside. I planned to run all 10 AWG from the sub to tub in a 1" PVC conduit. 5 lines total. The original owner had it all wired from his sub to the tub with solid copper. Is it an advantage or code to use the solid copper versus the stranded THHN. I really dont want to have to deal with pulling the solid wire when I can use the THHN 10 AWG for all 5 lines.
