  1. a) Hmm, maybe I'm assuming too much and it's true that I'm not an expert on Arctic's setup but don't they place the circ pump BEFORE the ozone injection point so that the ozone would not be running through it? If so, what's this about a "special" circ pump? If the ozone injectino point is indeed before the pump then I just learned something new about them. Of course you need a mazzei injector, so does every other reputable spa. Nothing different here. Is ozone efffective? I certainly believe so but I would skip the UV type and go with a CD ozone. It is well worth the added cost. In fact I'd probably go with no ozone before I'd go with the UV type.
  2. You could have said your brother worked for Sundance and could get you that spa through the employee purchase plan for $8k and Jim would have said it was too much. Ignore his responses on any spa related topics outside maybe"what is a good color to buy" and you'll be much better off.
  3. "Does this seem ok or is there better out there " ...is there better _______, price or spa? Caldera is a good spa choice IMO and it comes with a good warranty that is backed by a good manufacturer. As long as you've wet tested that spa (and preferably a couple others) and it fit/felt good and you're satisified that the dealer is a good one then you should be fine. As far as the price for that spa and the add ons (no ozone?), I can't help you there.
  4. You can't go MPS alone annd you do need to suppliment with some dichlor but 1 tsp once/week isn't enough. I'd use dichlor per use (1 tsp/person/use) and then weekly shock the spa (with either MPS or dichlor) and all will be fine.
  5. Jim, That's true, your biggest competition is the truth. When the truth is revealed, you stand no chance at making a sale. So when people go to http://www.selberg.org/~speed/spa.html and see what might be in store for them, you loose any chance at a sale. The truth is your biggest competitor.
  6. Paul, Don't underestimate the benefit of buying from a local experieinced dealer who'll be there long after the sale to care for your needs. Jim doesn't feel this way simply because he sells spas over the net and is up against the whole idea of people buying from local dealers and wants you to believe having the local dealer is overrated. It is NOT. If Master can service your needs with a good local dealer, great, go for it. If you don't think they can then it's hit and miss as to whether you'll get good service.
  7. Kind of like the fox recommending a vegetarian cookbook to the hens.
  8. Jim knows Hot Springs filters differently that others and that this is what UL/ETL is for. Therefore, since they are UL/ETL lsited then what he is REALLY saying is that they do not meet HIS criteria but I doubt that is what they are striving for. More double talk from Jim, ignore him.
  9. Clay, BOTH are very good spas from very good manufacturers. No one can tell you which is the better buy for YOU. In the end you'll have to decide which is best for you. I would put a lot of weight on how comfortable you are with each dealer that they'll service your needs properly afte the check clears and I'd put a great weight on how well each of them fits/feels in a wet test.
  10. What a moronic statement. The warranties on the shells from the major manufacturers are typically 7-10 years. Jim states that the shells only last 5-7 years so under his stats you'd expect catestrophic failure rates but Mr. Wizard then says they have a 3% failure rate. He might want to get his random/made up on the spot statictics straight before he posts them LOL.
  11. ONLY 5 spas worth looking at and those are them? LOL, maybe you should throw an IMO in that statement and make it more of what it is, an opinion. Here is how I would put it if I had wanted to give my opinion as to what my top 5 were: "There are many good spas out there and everyone has their favorites but IMO the top 5 are Sundance, Hot Springs, Marquis, Caldera and D1." Jacuzzi would make my top 10 and Bullforg my top 20 but neither in my top 5 but then again, this is MY list.
  12. That spa is not easier or more difficult than any other spa relative to water maintenance!!!!! That is a sales line you've been given. The chemical maintenance of a spa is not related to brand in any way assuming the spa filters properly which all reputable brands do. A bromine generator!!! A friend of mine demo'd one of those! YUCK. Again, I do NOT like bromine spas whether it's a floater or a brominator so maybe your experience will differ (but I doubt it).
  13. Juana, I have to beleivek you are confusing a Maax ELITE Spa with a spa made for Costco using a similar name. The Elite Spa by Maax (http://www.elitespasbymaax.com/indulge.html ) may have sold for $8k at one time but the Costco spa in question is more of an entry level spa, sells for far less and is made by a company called Hydrospas that makes a lot of spas for rebranding purposes. The spa you're talking about is more of a premium spa but that seems high for a used spa. Even though it may be barely used you're not going to get the warranty.
  14. Yes, all cps makers have issues from time to time but does that mean they are all equal i this regard? Absolutely not, some have few and some have far too many issues. Please don't infer I'm targeting Cal Spas because they make a lot of spas and calling them the "the largest home resort product manufacturer" has nothing to do with the quality of their spas, all it says is they are in the pool table and BBQ business whereas other spa makers concentrate on spas (maybe there is something to that). Hot Springs and Sundance make far more spas and have a much better track record for taking care of their customers so my comments have nothing to do with knocking a company because of their size. I assume other spa makers such as D1 and Marquis make a few less than Cal Spas but I'd go with them long before I'd consider a Cal Saps. These are definitely my opinions but Cal Spas reputation is earned IMO and can't simply be poo-pooed. Certainly they can change that reputation over time but I wouldn't chance it. IF someone does go with Cal Spas I'd recommend them make DOUBLY sure that the dealer is a long time spa dealer with a very good BBB record as a good dealer can help overcome what I see as the manufacturer's shortcomings. Let’s simply agree to disagree.
  15. It is your duty to help the unsuspecting spa buyer.
  16. There is a big difference between crazing and cracking. If you have a crack, it should be obvious.
  17. CD ozonators are a big advantage over the cheaper UV type (less output).
  18. Quality and service record (a warranty is only good if it's fully honored).
  19. I'm not a fan of Cal Spas but if you do go with them make sure you're working with a good dealer who has a long and positive track record. Check the BBB and do a search on this site and others for that dealer and for Cal Spas in general.
