  1. I only use an oxidizer about once per week. I'm the only tub user - I use it every day.
  2. I've been having a strange issue lately with my Bromine levels going to zero. I typically keep the water at the following TA=60, PH=7.6, CH=180, Temp=102 F, Borates=50, Bromine=2-3 PPM. I don't believe it could be any issue with my ozonator as I'm using the Brilliance Bromine system which should be OK even without an ozonator. I think mine is working correctly but hard to tell. I've noticed this happening just lately if I use the tub the night before both times there was very slight rain - the slightest amount of rain (slight drizzle). Could this cause the sanitizer level to drop to zero? Thanks Mike
  3. Hi, I'm currently using "Brilliance for Spa's Water Clarifier w/ bioplex NMF" once per week (using about 1 oz for 230 gallons). Should I only be using this as needed(when and if the water is murky) or is it OK to use this weekly as suggested on the bottle. I haven't found too much info on clarifier use so I figured I better ask! Thanks Mike
  4. Thanks for the info! If I decide to use unscented 6% bleach to shock would this have less of an impact on my water balance? Also for 230 gallons how much bleach would I want to add? Thank you, Mike
  5. I'm just getting comfortable with balancing my water and have found my perfect TA - here is my numbers TA=60, PH=7.6, CH=180, Borates=50. I'm using Brilliance for Spas Bromine system and maintain my Bromine levels at 2-2.5 ppm. Each week I use the Brilliance Oxidizer which is potassium monopersulfate. I'm only using about .250 oz (1/2 tablespoon) for my 230 gallons of water. But the next day I check my water balance and the ph is at 7.2 and TA goes down to 50. Question is should I do a weekly shock (spa is used my my only once each day for 20 minutes per use)? If I should shock should I be using something else that wouldn't mess up the water balance so severely? Thanks, Mike
  6. wow! what a difference this post had made to my water chem. I'm at ta=70, ph=7.7, ch=180, borates=50, bromine level=2. The ph is now finally stable. I realize that my numbers aren't a completely zero CSI but I'm a bit hesitant to mess with the balance unless its really beneficial to do so. Thanks for all your help guys! Mike
  7. Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for! I'm currently playing around with the TA trying to get a stable 7.4-7.5 Ph. Here is what I currently have going on Temp is 102 F, Borates=30, TA=60, CH=180, PH=7.8. Should I try to lower the TA to 50 and hope for a stable ph of 7.5 (according to the pool calculator my CSI would be -.17 at those levels)? Is there any charts of what the goal for total alkalinity should be based on your calcium hardness and what ph level will be stable? It seems like trial and error to keep lowering the alkalinity to see what the PH stabilizes at.
  8. Just want to clear this up so I'm getting the correct results with my Taylor K-2106 Kit. When I test the alkalinity I add 2 drops of the R-0007, then 5 drops of the R-0008 and it is green. Then I add in the R-0009 one drop at a time until it turns red. Here is my issue: drops 1-5 of the R-0009 it is still green drop 6 it turns clear drop 7 it is clear faint looking pink drop 8 it is a solid looking pink do I record my reading with drop 7 or 8? Thanks
  9. I was messing around with the Pool Calculator. I'm seeing to maintain a CSI of -.10 with my ch=293 I would need ph=7.3, ta=70, with borate=30 (does that sound correct) I see that there isn't a field on the Pool Calc for Bromine users. How would bromine effect my CSI reading? Do I zero the CYA and FC being I'm using bromine? Would adding a field for bromine users in the Pool Calculator be a nice to have formula or does bromine not effect water chem too much? Thanks Mike
  10. Thanks for the reply. Is it for sure OK to keep my TA of around 40-50? Is it hard on the equipment? I was trying to keep it in the "ideal" range of 80-120 because my dealer told me I must not fall below 80 or else... So what I should do is adjust the PH to 7.4-7.5 and let the TA do its own thing?
  11. Your TA is too high; it is causing your pH to be too high. You need to lower it until the pH stays right. Also, get a good test kit. Test strips are not accurate. Hi, this is my first post! I've been having this exact same issue with the PH staying around 8.0. I use dry acid to lower it to 7.4 and the next day its right back at 8.0. My TA is right around 70 right now (keeps getting lower with all the dry acid until I add baking soda to bring it back to around 100). How do I find my ideal TA to stabilize my PH at around 7.4. I've also recently added Gentle SPA thinking it would help but still have the same issue. Without balancing my water here are the details of my fill water: TA: 300, PH 7.2, CH 293, TDS 250 - is this a potential cause of my issue? The water in the spa (250 gallon) is around 3 weeks old. And using Brilliance for Spas Bromine and testing the water with a good Taylor kit. Thanks for your help! Mike
