  1. Ok this is problally going to be too long but hope you will bare with me. I can't seem to get my water to behave. Drain and fill the HT, everything great for one week, starting to cloud a little the second, really fizzy and almost white when the pumps are on by the third. My wife and I only, no swimsuits and a shower with no soap prior to getting in. I soak every day, my wife three times per week. I boutght my HT used and these are the chemicals that came with it, Leasure Time brand Enzyme, Sodium Bromide, Reserve, Calcium & Scale Preventative, Foam Down, Bright & Clear and Brom Tabs also SpaGuard brand Enhanced Shock along with PH increaser and decreaser. I plan on draining again this weekend and starting over, I also plan on scrubbing the whole inside with a water and bleach solution. Do I have enough chemicals already on hand or do I need to get something else? My HT is rated at 225 gal. what and how much should I add when I refill? I know how to handle raising and lowering the PH but not sure what else and in what order I need to do. I am assuming I should get more than three weeks of good clear water after a change.
  2. I for sure don't know the answer to your question but I am using bromine and when I shock the levels go off the chart, I remove the despenser and it still takes 3 to 4 days to come back down to accepatble levels. I have only had my H.T. since November so I still want to soak every day and get aggravated having to wait for the bormine level to come down. Good Luck
  3. My son is going to school in Indy, he is a big boy, well over 250 lbs with big friends. As tight as money is for these guys while trying to get through school I would say $100.00 would get four or five of them there for help. If interested let me know and I'll provide a number where you can reach him. At any rate good luck, I know you will enjoy once up and running, just wish I would have bought mine twenty years ago.
  4. Probally no one else on this site that knows less about spas than me, but I do know a little about moving heavy stuff and not sure that is what you are looking for. The Mfg. list a weight raiting of 1000 lbs. which is most likley at the low end at the direction of their legal section. If you do decide to use it try to have lots of help to steady it as you move. Good Luck
  5. It doesn't happen to be a blue ridge brand does it? I lost the filter cover from mine during transport home can't seem to find a replacement. If I should be lucky enough that your HT is a blue ridge I would be interested in pumps, controlls, heater, ect. and wouldn't care to make a reasonable offer and pay shipping.
  6. Here is some pics of spa that I am trying to identify. Also in Pic 2 it shows a little recess in the spa, its about 3/4" deep, clear plastic open on the back side and threaded (don't know what it is) Also in pic 3 the white jet seems missing something or is it a weird jet? In pic 4 circled section is a hard plastic section in the air line that as a small outlet on the side for a small pipe. any ideas as what this hooked up to? I can take more detailed pics if required cheers glenn Try a pic of the controll and heater
  7. My training indicates the one thing that most affects the rate alchol is absorbed into the blood stream is the content of the stomac. Thus the question on most states D.U.I. alchol influence reports "When did you last eat" and "What did you eat". Having said that I do have the preception that I feel the effect of alchol quicker and with less consumption while in the HT but I also have the same precepiton on a hot summer day when we are pulled up on a sandbar in the boat. I don't know if the effects of alchol are amplified while in the HT or not but I do preseive them to be. As for lthe warnings posted on hot tubs I would guess that is at the uriging of the companies legal section. I am new to HT's but have several years experence with alchol and thus far have found them to be quite compatable.
  8. Still trying to get this whole hot tub water chemistery figured out. Got my water adjusted to 7.4 PH, applied "SpaGard" oxidizer "Enhanced Shock" to the water as directed on the container. My bromine went off the chart showing a level > 20 PPM, so my question is, will the bromine level come down on it's own or do I need to drain some water off and refill? The instructions indicate I should shock at least once a week will this happen each time? The bromine tabs I am using are "Leisure Time" brand and the shock is "SpaGuard" brand any chance the brands are not compatable? Sorry for so many questions but can't seem to find this subject already addressed elsewhere.
  9. First of all I only have a test kit that measures PH and bromine both of which seem to be good. With nothing running the water in my hot tub is clear enough to read the date on a quarter lying on the bottom through it, however as soon as I turn on the pumps the water turns almost white and has kind of a fizz to it. The water will become clear again in about 30 seconds after turning the pumps off. There is no hot tub dealer in the county where I live so it's about eighty miles round trip to go get advise in person. Thus far the dealer has sold me (all Leisure Time brand) Reserve, Enzyme, Bright and Clear, and Foam Down and provided instructions for their use. Follow the dealer's instructions I have made no progress. I am going to invest in a new test kit but am not sure what I need to advise the retailer I will be wanting to test for. So my question is, What all do I want to test for? If you have any advise for keeping my water from turning white in the mean time I will give it a try. Thanks
  10. After helping a couple of my neighbors install an outdoor wood furnace for home heating I have decided to invest in one myself. All the furnace information I can locate on the net indicates you can heat your swimming pool and/or hot with them. Anyone using a wood furnace for heating their hot tub, if so how is it working for you?
  11. Bought a used hot tub, got it wired and running first of last week, seemed to take forever to get to temp but was really enjoying it once it did. Noticed a little water running out from under the cabnet pulled the side off and one of the pumps was leaking a little around the shaft but only when running. Orderd a new pump and went on using the tub only running the pump that did not leak. Got the new pump today and was hoping there was some sort of shut off so I didn't have to loose all my water but there wasn't. Drained the tub, replaced the pump, refilled, and now am just waiting for the temp. to rise. I am retired, had never been in a hot tub prior to this one, but now I wonder why I didn't buy one twenty years ago.
  12. Well....did you put any chlorine in your tub? A very typical source is Dichlor. If you do not have any, get some at the spa store or online. As to Clorox, yes it is the same. However, you cannot just add it to your tub. You need some type of stabilizer, the typical source of stabilizer is Dichlor. You use Dichlor at the beginning to develop a residual of 20-30ppm stabilizer(CYA). After that point you can add clorox as a source of chlorine. Please read Nitro's approach to water maintenance on this forum. It has much more detail and will allow you to safely and easily enjoy your tub. here is the link to Nitro's approach to water maintenance: http://www.poolspaforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=13634 As to the question of how much clorox to add, I suggest using www.thepoolcalculator.com and using their app on your ipod or iphone if you have one. (allows wonderful poolside chemical calculations) Another thing to keep in mind is that your test kits do expire, typically the reagents only last one year. So make sure they are not too old. If they are go ahead and get different reagents as age degrades their ability to read properly. Also, A good decontamination procedure wouldnt hurt as you have a used tub. Again, the best source of information would be Nitro's decontamination post. Here is the link to Nitro's decontamination procedures: http://www.poolspaforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=19115 Good luck, I hope this helps! Thanks, I am beginning to think I'm not smart enough to have a hot tub
  13. Bought my tub used, a couple of little test kits came with it along with a bunch of different chemicals. I hadn't really planed on buying a hot tub but it was at public auction and no one else was bidding. I had done no research prior to purchase. Brought it home, wired it up, filled from the garden hose turned it on and everything worked. Got one of the test kits out and checked the PH the color indicated 8.2, one of the chems. that came with the tub indicated it was PH reducer, put a little in gave it time to ciruclate checked again and got a 7.6 which if I am reading right is OK. However when I added the prescribed five drops from the test kit to check for chlorine it didn't cause the water to change colors any. I emptied, cleaned, and refilled the test kit several times with the same results. Drove the 40 miles one way to a hot tub dealer today for advise only to find a sign indicating he would be back right after Christmas. I have really been enjoying this tub but do want to get the chlorine level to where it should be. so when people talk about adding Clorox are they talking about the bleach that my wife uses in the whites when she does laundry? If so how much should I start off adding? If I done the math right my tub should be about 250 gal. Thanks for any advise.
  14. no one is newer to hot tubs than I, but my owners manual advises once a week. My tub is seven years old and was not a top of the line when new so there may have been advancements in filters since then too.
  15. I am new to this forum as well... We have spent 4 years replacing various parts of our used spa. It can be a pain, but still a lot less $$ than buying new. For foam reduction, just buy spa-grade anti-foam from Lowes (can be found in the spa/pool area). $6 or so a bottle, and half a capful works like a charm. Hey Thanks
