  1. They're a specialized Jacuzzi-only product that go into a dispenser that attaches to one of the filters. So far, they seem to work very well. A pic is here: http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-22970348879231_2068_6397447

  3. So, having had my J-480 for 2 weeks today, I flipped off the power and removed the filters to give them a quick rinse. When I was finished, I replaced them and turned the power back on. Everything seemed fine. I noticed a couple hours later that my floating filter skimmer was standing up out of the water by a couple inches. I then realized that neither my circ pump nor ozonator were running. I also noticed that a bit later, the circ pump / ozonator were running again....but then a bit later they stopped again. I looked in the manual and saw that the circ pump will wait 24 hours after a power outage to operate. I called my dealer who confirmed this was the case, and the circ pump should be operating full time again tomorrow. Apparently whenever the heater is required, the circ pump will turn on, until the water gets up to temp, and then when the heater shuts off, so will the circ pump. I'm not sure if I like this....there is no filtration going on except for the periods when the heater runs, or if I turn on the jets. Also, I get the impression that the thermometer in the tub must rely on water in the circ pump system, as the water temp has increased to 103-104, from our setting of 102 (today was a relatively cool day). In the 2 weeks I have had it, the tub has never crept up to 104. Assume this is normal? Anyway to have get the circ pump running again full time, or do I just have to wait? What's the logic behind a 24 hr "wait"? Tks
  4. I just bought a J-480. The tub does take 3 wires, 2 hots (red & black) and a ground (green). If your in Canada, the ground is the bare copper.
  5. I have a fragrance dispense on my new Jacuzzi J-480. I have used the scent tablets and our water is clear, balanced, doesn't foam, and has a nice smell
  6. Wow...this is interesting! To me, this doesn't look like any censorship on behalf of the moderators of this forum. Rather, it is evident that the bad press Arctic was receiving on here, due to their complete relucantance to help Chris out, finally caused them to reconsider and step-up and take responsibility. If I am correct, Chris does not have the ability to "delete" his posts, only "edit" them, which is why all his previous posts now have only a single character in them. As well, it is also evident that part of this "settlemnt" was for Chris to remove any and all disparging posts / pictures etc. and to cease his campaign against Arctic. This is just a guess, but in return, I would suspect he is to receive a new tub. Isn't he lucky! While I do understand Chris' postion, and that ultimately, all he wants is a functional hot tub, I still find this resolve quite sad. Chris knew he was right all along - his tub was a POS as was the treatment he was recieving from his dealer AND from Arctic directly. He was very vocal about his complaints and posted here in an obvious attempt to draw attention to his issue. His complaints were clearly valid, and IMHO, Arctic was both negligent and liable and owed him a new tub. Plain and simple. I am disappointed that he agreed to censor his own posts in order to obtain what he was rightly entitled to. By doing so, he has done nothing but support Arcitc's shady tactics. Clearly Arctic didn't give a flying f*ck about him or his problems, and it was only when pushed to extremes that they finally caved in and conceded. Now this thread will slowly wane into the bowels of this forum, and new potential Arctic owners looking for REAL opinions of Arctic spas will not have the ability to see what really happened to Chris and the lengths he had to go to just to have his completely valid issues addressed. Look at this from Arctic's position - is every customer they treat this way going to go to the extremes that Chris did? Not likely. So for them, after dragging this one out as long as they could, they finally decided to resolve it, with the proviso that Chris remove all derogatory posts. Write this one off as a loss, make it go away, and then carry on as usual. One just has to wonder how many other "Chris's" Arctic has out there who do not have the computer savvy, knowledge, or motivation to fight to the extent that Chris has. The link SteelerPete posted supports Arctic's MO. When I was shopping for our tub, the local Arctic dealer spent considerable time pushing Peroxysan on me as well. He used it in his tub, a firend he knew had not changed his water in 22 months using only Peroxysan, etc. etc. Obviously this whole Peroxysan thing is sanctioned by Arctic, as the number of similar experiences from various parts of the country is too large to be just a coincidence. Obviously there is money in this for Arctic. With this in mind, there was a post from Tom (unless it has been deleted) that identifed that Arctic is using the use of peroxide based chemicals as an "out" for any warranty claims. Wouldn't it be nice to have Arctic deny your warranty claim because one of their dealers pushed you into this product. Or...perhaps there is method to their madness.....???? Am I ever glad I didn't buy am Arctic. My apologies for those who do own Arctic products, and I hope your local dealer provides good support to you, because it is evident that Arctic sure won't.
  7. So what happened Chris? I see a bunch of blank posts of yours...did Arctic do something?
  8. I looked at Arctic, but ended up buying a Jacuzzi J-480 (wife wanted a lounger). We've had it about 5 days and it has been everything we expected, and more. I looked at the Arctic's as part of my search, but we just didn't like them. After reading posts like this: http://www.poolspaforum.com/forum/index.ph...50&start=50 am I ever glad I didn't give the Arctic's more consideration. Buyer beware
  9. I just bought a new tub, after a rather exhaustive search. I bought a Jacuzzi J-480, definitely check out the Jacuzzi tubs. As well, Dimension 1 make an excellent product.
  10. Arctic Spas responds: There have been some issues with materials reacting to chemicals not approved by Blue Falls Manufacturing, makers of Arctic Spas. We are looking into the effect that different chemicals may have on the plastics used in spa products. For example, we are aware that hydrogen peroxide based products are hard on plastics, and many manufacturers refuse to warranty damage from the use of these products. We will soon follow suit. By no means are we putting anyone "on the back burner" but we are trying to diagnose conditions and find solutions. Unfortunately, we don't recognize the name Chris Golf as an end user. Anonymous posts on a forum do little to advance our goals of helping our customers. Tom, I am willing to bet that Arctic has Chris' real name and information on file somewhere (or should have!), and that he is clearly not using this forum as his only medium of communication with Arctic. Rather than coming up with yet another deflection of responsibility, it would be wise, in this consumer's opinion, to do whatever it takes to address Chris' issues. From my perspective, this could have very easily been me, or any other customer who bought your product, spending a significant amount of money expecting to get a quality item with reliable support. It appears that Chris has done everything expected of a consumer, (and yes - used the chemicals suggested by his dealer), and for some reason is being completely ignored by Arctic. I have seen similar posts on this forum from others who have had similar issues with other manufacturers. For example, a fellow had some major issues with a D1 tub. The fellow posted on here and received a response from a D1 rep who immediately worked with him to address his issues. The original poster was eventually so satisfied that he made sure to update his post and give credit to D1 and the rep who helped him. This thread can be found here: http://www.poolspaforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=19179 I know I don't mean squat to you, but I will tell you that a big factor in me NOT buying an Arctic spa was some of the comments I read online. On the other hand, I was very close to buying a D1 model for the very same reason. I have seen similar posts involving HS who also is very customer-focused. It would be wise of Arctic, instead of trying to cover its ass with excuses, to aggressively pursue this customer's complaint and make him satisfied. Who is the Arctic warranty actually protecting - the customer or the manufacturer?

  12. Maybe those cold Southern Ontario winters are too hard on the Jacuzzis', but out here in Alberta, the Jacuzzis' do well in our mild winters. Of course the Jacuzzi stereo will soon fail...he isn't selling it...whadda ya expect him to say? In my opinion, any dealer that has to try to discredit another manufacturer just to try to make his product appear better, obviously knows / feels his product is inferior. Sundance insulation and outside material is a lot better than Jacuzzi. Please....educate me how - why? Jacuzzi's reputation speaks for itself. Believe who you wanna believe. A salesman not being honest....? Nah...not a chance!
  13. Sorry to hear about your issues Chris. I am not an Arctic owner, but did consider them while doing my recent search. In Arctic's defense, I'm sure every manufacturer has lemons out there, however, I would have expected them to properly take care of your issues. Them blocking your emails and essentially turning their back on you is a huge black eye for them. Makes me even more comfortable that I made the right choice. Hopefully the VP that you have contacted will step-in and you will be taken care of. I firmly believe a picture is worth 1000 words, and would suggest you post pictures of your warranty card and your problems....let people on here know what you, as an Arctic owner, are going through, and what they could possibly expect as well. I'm going to follow this thread...please let us know how this turns out.
  14. That's a pretty good price on a 2009 J-480. Does it have the new JBL J-1000 stereo? Yes, it is highly recommended to run a separate sub panel to your spa, with the GFCI. Make sure to check with the dealer about your base, you don't want it to shift. Some places sell a plastic pad that you can place down over level ground. I don't know much about the salt systems...perhaps ask in the water chemistry section. Most people seem go with Chlorine or Bromine.
  15. This is from a Jacuzzi dealer in Calgary, where we can get pretty cold too. Not sure how a Bullfrog would compare. Energy Consumption - Jacuzzi Premium J-335 Average Yearly Temperature for Calgary 7.25° Celsius Usage Monthly.........................KWh Used.........Monthly Cost......Daily Cost 30 min. every day...................356 kWh...........$28.48...............$0.93 30 min every other day...........210 kWh............$16.80..............$0.55 20 min every other day...........156 kWh............$12.48..............$0.41 Keeping the tub to temp. only.. 64 kWh.............$5.12................$0.17 Monthly and daily costs are calculated based on 8 cents per kilowatt hour. Kilowatt useage is based on a Jacuzzi Premium J-335 hot tub (240-volt, 30-60 amp.) set at 102° F. Costs will vary based on usage, ambient temperature, local kWh costs, user selected set temperatures and filter cycles.
  16. I initially was looking at the J-465, however after speaking with people in another forum, I decided against the 465 and bought a J-480. The lounger in the 465 is poorly designed and seems to be built for very tall people (over 6') and the calf jets are rather weak. Assuming your entrance step will be at the "front" of the spa where the control panel is, you may have noticed that this will have you stepping into the tub right onto the curved part of the lounger - there is no actual flat entrance step. Also, there is only one diverter valve which restricts the amount of control you have over the jets. For some reason, Jacuzzi seemed to not put much thought into this model, and some suspect it might soon be discontinued. Look at the 480...much better tub and if you start haggling, you can get it for not too much more than the 465.
  17. HotSpring has their AutoFresh automatic dispensing system too
  18. My tub is going on my cement patio. It will be your responsibility to ensure you have a flat, level, and sturdy enough of a base to install your tub on. Obviously the best is concrete pad, but there are other acceptable alternatives. Speak with your dealer to see what they recommend, or search around the internet to see some ideas of what other people do. You will also need to have electrical service tun to the tub, including the GFCI. Again, this is typically something you will have to arrange on your own, however your dealer may be able to refer you to a local electrician. Basically, if you buy the tub, they will deliver it to your home, set it in place, fill it with water, and help you with the chemical startup. They expect the "ground" (base) to be ready when they deliver it. Usually the electrical is also setup and ready to connect to the tub at the same time, however most dealers will not actually make the electrical connections, that will be up to you or your electrician.
  19. I just bought a new J-480 which will be delivered in a couple days. You have nothing to worry about, Jacuzzi makes a quality product, and the 480 is their flagship. Your price doesn't seem too bad, but I have to ask what model year it is? Is it a 2009 model? The reason I ask is because you describe the stereo as an "audio system with ipod docking station". My 2009 model also has the stereo option, which is the JBL J-1000 system. If I am correct, this is the current model year's stereo option, and last year's model had a different version that had the stereo unit mounted on one side of the main access panel, and the ipod docking station was mounted on the other side. I might be wrong though. If it is a 2009 model WITH the J-1000 stereo, you are getting a very good price on it. It is is a 2008 model, I can't comment. GFCI stands for Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter. A ground fault circuit interrupter is a safety device to protect against electrical shock by cutting off the flow of electricity when there is even a slight stray of current leakage. It can be installed in your main electrical panel, or, more commonly, installed in a separate small panel of its own mounted outside, near the hot tub. It is a must-have with a hot tub. They are rather pricey, so getting one included even makes your deal that much better.
  20. I think it looks good Dennis. I like the "cleaner" look, more than that of the Arena; primarily due to the omission of the blue tile at the waterline. I also think the chrome jets add a touch of class and give an appearance of quality. No typhoon jet in this model?
  21. I just found this on a (Canadian) Home Depot Q&A page. This was the question posed: Given BC Cental Okanagan Temps from -40C to + 40C ... roughly 80 ft from panel 1) What is the minimum AWG is required for a 60A 240V Hot Tub? Specs vauge 40-50-60A 2) Is Tek90 rated to be run in ground without a conduit? 3) With a GFI Breaker can the Hot tub also have a Ground Rod? One of the answers: "I've done lots of tubs and I don't think 80 feet is a problem. After 100 ft I would upgrade one size. There is the problem of voltage drop and you can get nuisance tripping due to the impedence of the wire fooling the GFCI control circuit. The manufacturer will tell you what size breaker you need. They calculate this by the size of the heater usually 6KW. and the total motor loads. If your tub calls for a 60 amp breaker it likely has two or three motors. If your motor load is more than 50% of your total load , under section 28 you can argue that your breaker can be larger than the rating of your wire. There is a calculation for this. In any case I would run 3C #6awg ACWU ( good for direct burial and 1/3 the cost of copper) from the GFCI into the spa pak and use a 4+11/16 J box and switch to NMD 90 #6 copper. You need copper conductors to terminate. ACWU #6 is good for 60 amp sevices and sub services. Most inspectors will allow it for the tub appllication since it can carry 55 amps and you will never load it to capacity. Forget the ground bar."
