  1. Thanks for your suggestion. I have the same idea, and mentioned it to the spa technician. I asked why he doesn't have the existing pump rebuilt. It doesn't seem that difficult to me. I may try your advice. I think I can get that pump out of there myself.
  2. Hello again. Thanks for your continued advice. I had a spa tech come look at this Marquis Euphoria. What he said is that the pump will not turn on. He can get it to turn on by moving it forward a bit with a screwdriver. This is the pump that does most of the work. It is located on the right side, as you are looking at the spa. It is directly underneath the Balboa control. He looked into this issue and discovered that this pump is a Vico, and Marquis no longer uses this pump. He is quoting me a rate of $120 for service call, another $80 to install a new pump, and I have not found out how much it costs to buy a new Vico pump. Does this sound consistent with your understanding of the Marquis Euphoria that uses a Vico pump? I think mine is made in 2004 or 2005. What is your estimate of cost for a new Vico pump? Is there a different pump you recommend? This spa was brand new less than two years ago. I am pretty disappointed in the pump. I use pumps for agriculture and drainage on my farm, and a good pump will last at least 10 years. Thanks for any further advice.
  3. Hello Guru, and thank you very much. I have more news about this problem. I opened up the spa inspection cover then turned the power back on. After a minute or two the grey box, perhaps this is the "balboa", started buzzing. It was a buzz sound as if to suggest that it wanted to turn something on but that thing did not turn on. Kind of like if you plug in a fan, and the fan doesn't work but there is still electricity running to it. It buzzed for a few minutes. I also started to smell a bit of electrical burning, quite worrisome, then the buzzing stopped. The ozonator came on and something started to function/circulate but it was not the main pumps. After just a few seconds that stopped. My panel code had two letters, if I remember correctly they were dr. I cut power to the spa at that point. It would seem that this problem might not be the sensors. What else could it be? Any other suggestions? Thanks for any and all advice.
  4. Hi. I went into my spa last night and there was an error code OHH. I pushed the temp button and it said 106 degrees, then it showed to 91 degrees (which was the actual water temp). I assumed since my daughter was in the tub with her friend, she set the temp too high and that turned it off. I just reset the temp to 102 and I noticed the heater came back on. This morning I found OHH code with 110 degrees. I shut off the power to the spa. What might be the problem? Thanks for any advice.
  5. Hello. I have a new Marquis Euphoria. Love the spa. It's my first. It has an ozonator. I had a local spa expert service guy start me out. He filled the spa (I have a private well, rural area). Using the little strip tester, he said it's all good except that I need to add chlorine. He sold me some from Leisuretime. He said the Spa Frog is not necessary. I used up the Leisuretime chlorine and went to my local spa shop. They sold me GLB Granular Sanitizer for $22. I thought that was high, but I bought it anyway. It says "stabilized chlorinating concentrate granular" so I believe it's the same as the Leisuretime chlorine. I also bought a Spa Frog from them and started using it. I wonder what the best brand of chlorine to buy. I don't mind buying half a dozen at once. Also, GLB says "Made in China". Something about soaking in chemicals from China puts me off. I've been to China for extended stays. Is it possible to buy American made chlorine? When adding chlorine, there is a horrible smell right away, and it dissipates. What is that smell? Is it hazardous? Just wondering. Thanks for your advice.
  6. Hi Markee, Thanks a lot for your response. If you are a Marquis dealer, you don't need me to tell you but I will say it for others reading--this is an excellent product. I have one question for you--concerning the "light shroud". Is that what it's called? Do you have a part number? I'll call the local dealer and order it asap. Since I have you here I have another question. Concerning the "Soundsation" feature which my Euphoria has. Any tips on hooking that up? I haven't hooked it up yet. I don't want to run the wire into my house, I'd rather hook it up to perhaps a music player I have stored on our deck under cover. Any models or brands you recommend, to power the Soundsation? Thanks again.
  7. Hi. I shopped for used spas for a few months, and along the way I got great advice in this forum. Thanks. I finally bought a spa and want to share the story. It was a time-consuming search, but I ended up finding a four year old Marquis for a good price. This is the Euphoria model, and it was brand new (not used even a single time, never filled with water). I bought it from someone who apparently had every intention of hooking it up but due to a breakup and move out of town, that never happened. My luck. I had it moved for $250, set onto a new deck built just for the spa, and I paid a local spa service guy $275 to clean it well and get me off on the right track. That included some chemicals, and an education on how it all works. This Euphoria is a dream come true for us. I have always wanted a hot tub. The Euphoria is extremely well-built. There are two main valves on the top to divert water power to different seats. I really enjoy moving around the different seats, switching the valves to power the various jets. Neck, foot, butt, shoulders, etc, all covered with the range of jets. After 20 minutes or so, my body feels totally relaxed. Some quirks I noticed at first. The spa has settings such as Smart Logic, and Filter Clean. At first I might have set them myself incorrectly, but it seemed like the spa was on every minute of the day even when we were not in it. It turns out I had it set to auto filter twice a day for 6 hours, and the Smart Logic came on automatically for another 2 hours after any use. I read the instructions and switched Smart Logic to "off" and auto clean to just once per day for 45 minutes. These new settings did not take effect right away either, I had to wait until the next day to notice. Anyone familiar with the Euphoria care to comment about the best settings? It is just myself, my wife, and our three kids. So far, we've all gone out into the spa every evening. What a nice way to spend time together. Great conversation and family time. Sometimes my wife and I will put the kids to bed, and go out together. More great conversation and "together time". We are already sexually active together but the spa is a nice addition. Because we get intimate then walk into our bedroom, bodies steaming, make love, then go back into the spa for more relaxation. In nearly 15 years of being married, we still love it like newlyweds. But I have a question--is there some type of safe lubricant for lovers in hot tubs? A final question concerns the skirting of this spa. On the skirt that covers the equipment, there is a hole for an exterior light. The light works great, but the lens cover that screws into the skirt is gone. As a result, there is a hole in the skirt. Where might I get the exact lens cover for the Euphoria? A local dealer? Marquis direct? Thanks for any advice.
  8. Hi. I found someone offering a brand new Marquis Euphoria for $2700. Initially they posted an ad but the ad was short, without pictures. It just said something like: brand new spa for a great price. I emailed a response and seemed to be the only one interested. Met the seller yesterday and took a few pictures. I have never owned a spa before so don't know what to look for, but it does seem like it could be brand new. No sign of water ever being inside. I pulled out the plastic frog tube thing, no evidence of water. The story is this guy is a real estate salesman, and he is selling the spa for his "brother" who bought it, never did install it, broke up with his girlfriend, then had to leave town. I am not sure I believe the brother story, for various reasons. He could be selling it for someone else, not sure. It's in a little garage storage shed in a rough apartment complex. The real estate guy does own a nice house and it's about an hour away from where he came to show this to me. Built in 2004, as you can see from photos. Dusty but otherwise ok. Worst case scenario what could this be? It seems like a great deal as you might agree but what to look for? What do you think of this deal?
  9. Here is a guy selling a used Coyote that seems to be in good condition. Note the photos at link. I wonder what this cost new, and what a good price might be. I intend to buy a used spa to save money at this point. What do you think of this deal? Thanks for any feedback. http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/for/1296456555.html Coyote 6 Person Spa/Hot Tub $3000 This Coyote Spa/Hot Tub is in exceptional condition. It was purchased in 2006 and used by the previous home owner for 1 year. When I purchased the house in 2007 I had it drained and winterized. It has not bee used since. This is an opportunity to have an almost new and well maintained spa/hot tub for less than half the cost of a new one. The interior and exterior have been well maintained and the cover is very nice. The mechanics of the tub have been professionally maintained and the condition/function shows this. Additional photos upon request. The price includes delivery to your residence (1 hour proximity of Sammamish). Within reason I will deliver the hot tub as close to the final location as possible. Hookup is the responsibility of the new owner. 10. Hi Guru, Thanks for your note. I looked at this model and it does appear to be a sweet setup. Not sure if this guy is playing me or not. Because at first I emailed for details, and he answered my questions. Then I followed up and said I'd like to come see it on Tuesday evening (tomorrow). He says someone is coming today, and he will show it to me Wednesday if it's still available. Maybe it's all a charade. I kind of doubt it though. In any case, I wouldn't buy it unless it really fits us. I'm spending $10k now to remodel my deck, the spa will be installed after that work is done. I can afford to buy the spa I want that fits me and my wife just right, but I can't help but think this used Jacuzzi might be a real value.
  11. Hi, Thanks for the info. I like the Jacuzzi name because, after all, aren't they who started the whole thing? I got a message from the seller just now, he said it's full and ready to test but another guy is coming to look at it today, in a couple of hours. I probably missed the boat! Sure seems like a good deal. If I end up getting it I'll share some info on it here. Thanks again.
  12. Hi. I found a Jacuzzi J-480 for sale, used 1.5 years, for around $3500. Seems like a great deal but I am a relative newcomer to the spa scene. My wife and I are looking for our first. What is the overall reputation of Jacuzzi? How much did that cost brand new, ballpark figure? Are they fully-foamed? Are they made in USA or Canada? Thanks for any advice.
  13. Those are really cool pictures. Congratulations. It must feel great to have it in place. Was delivery included in the deal? I have a dream installation job compared to that. Living on flat acreage. I have enough room to literally drive a 40 foot semi truck right alongside my deck.
  14. http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/app/1263823620.html Sounds like a good deal but what is it?
  15. Slightly off topic here but I am in the market for a hot tub and noticed a few people selling swim spas. Including one below less than one year old, for (apparently) nearly half price. I have a huge piece of land to put the hot tub. I wonder what the heating cost is for such a mammoth swim spa. It could be a lot of fun for my wife and I, and our kids. 14' Endless Pool - Swim Spa - Exercise Pool!!! - $12995 (Edmonds) This spa is less than 1 year old. Original price was $23k. Comes with 3 pumps, 4 swim jets, waterfall, and exercise equipment. This spa was reposessed from its original owner due to default in financing. Someone else's loss is your gain. Spa has a 1 year parts and labor warranty left on it. Spa is totally self contained and comes with cover. All you need is a flat level pad to put it on. Electrical requirement is 220V/60amp. If you've done any shopping on swim spas then you know how good of a deal this is. Serious inquiries only! Watch demo at - www.tidalfit.com
  16. The guy you were talking to was flat out wrong. Hot Springs is no harder to work on than any other full foam tub. 98% of the repairs are in the equipment area of any brand. The way Hot Springs is laid out nice and neat and simple in the equipment area it makes it easier than alot of brands. I believe he meant all full-foamed tubs are nearly impossible to fix if a leak occurs. Your post suggests that Hot Springs has an easily-accessed equipment area, and 98% of all repairs occur in that area. Let's talk about leaks only. If a leak occurs, how does one go about fixing a Hot Springs or other fully-foamed model? Please advise as I'd like to know specifically how a leak is fixed in a fully-foamed spa. Thanks.
  17. Very interesting to read your comments, as I am also in the market for a spa for the first time. I think Hot Spring is an excellent spa in every respect but I am not sure if the value is there longterm. I plan to stay at my current home forever. One of my criteria is that the spa I buy has accessible parts, and can be repaired for decades. One person I spoke to said that Hot Springs are nearly impossible to fix if a leak occurs, due to being fully-foamed. Is that true? Just something to ponder.
  18. Hi. Thanks a lot for the feedback. I should probably just get a prepackaged deal. I am not in MT but a nearby state. Mountain Springs owns a local spa dealer (I just called them and the guy said his store is fully owned by Mountain Springs). Here is the deal with Mountain Springs that I like. The guy who recommended them said he has been in the spa business as install/repair for 20 years, and he likes their shells a lot. He said they are very well-built and lined with fiberglass. Sealed bottom. Highest standard. He ended up coming out to my property late, so we did talk. He said if I buy a used spa, he will move it into place for me and help choose a good one. Much of what he said is the same as what I read mentioned here. Examples: that there are some deals on good used spas, some brands are to be avoided such as Costcto, and curiously he said Hot Springs very difficult to service if a leak occurs, due to being fully-foamed. I visited a local Hot Springs dealer, the salesman was emphatic that Hot Springs is the only choice for clean water. Sounded a bit fishy! So back to the Mountain Springs local dealer, he is offering the package at link below for $4995 which sounds like a great deal. 5 year warranty. After the first year, $85 trip charge applies, all else is covered. He said the two pumps are Waterway and the controls are Balboa. I have seen people here state that those are good. Most of the things listed as Option are included as part of this $4995 deal. All in all it seems like a nice package. http://www.mountainspringsspa.com/web/everest.html
  19. Hi. I am rebuilding my deck. Not knowing how to design a deck, I hired an architect to draw up plans. He created masterful plans and I have a carpenter on hand who does excellent work. I want to have a hot tub sunk into the deck, it will be nearly flush with the top of the deck. This deck sits around 5' off the ground so there's plenty of room under the tub. The deck was engineered for this and my carpenter can make any appropriate support. I am reluctant to buy a ready-made hot tub kit for this. I'd like more of a custom setup, where the tub is insulated underneath but I want beefy pumps and a solid heater. I believe when hot tubs were first becoming popular, the pumps and heaters were kept in a little pump-house anyway. I am having a hard time finding a custom spa designer. One guy was supposed to come today, "no show". He was referred to me. You'd think in this economy I could find ready assistance, but everyone wants to sell me a prepackaged kit that will sit above ground. Speaking with the guy on the phone, he said he could order a shell from Mountain Springs Spa in Montana, and customize the rest. Since this guy didn't show up, and isn't answering his cell phone, and I had to adjust my entire schedule to accommodate him, I don't want to further anything with him. But I have to admit I was impressed with his idea. Any advice appreciated.
