  1. I switched to the big bromine tabs from the smaller ones and it barely reads on the test strips. Have 6 tabs in the floater. I also have the floater opened to about 6. What's up I wonder? Never had this prob b4.
  2. As this posting was a reprint of a COPYRIGHTED article which specifically stated Not To Be Reprinted Without Permission........ I've deleted it (your friendly neighborhood monitor)
  3. What you could do is remove all the jets and soak them in a bucket of chlorinated water during the process. If the tub is that old, you may need new rubber seals. Have you tried removing a jet and looking behind it? As far as the gunk disappearing, I really don't know. There hasn't been anyone that kept doing it until the gunk was gone. Maybe it was just a little gunk trapped behind the closed jets. Does it appear to be LESS gunk this time? Way less green gunk the 2nd time. Couldn't get each jet out, tried clockwise, counterclockwise, pushing, pulling, although one did fall out...it looked very clean. I'm also using a wet shop vac to suck out water from each jet and in the filter chamber.
  4. I went ahead and started the entire cleaning all over again and I'm glad I did because there's more gunk around the jets that weren't on in the first place and some gunk on top of jets that were. I bought this 14 year old tub about 4 months ago, so it probably needed a 2nd cleaning anyway but I'm wondering how many times I need to do this before no gunk comes out at all??. Thanks!
  5. Used spa flush, ran high/low, drained, refilled, then the chlorine, ran high/low, drained, refilled, balanced chemicals, bromine and everything looks great. Boy, a lot of gunk came out using the spa flush! Just used the clean tub and I noticed that a lone jet on the right wasn't turned on during the procedures, as well as one foot jet. Turned them on while I was soaking....did these two jets get any of the spa flush/chlorine? Or did I just re-contaminate by turning them on? Was there gunk that didn't get during the procedure? Should I go thru the decontaminate procedures again? I also smelled chlorine 15 minutes later, which is strange in a bromine tub, which leads me to believe that some chlorinated water from the procedures was trapped behind the jets....
  6. When turning on my tub this morning, it turns off after about 10 seconds. It pops the GFI box. Any ideas on how to trouble shoot? This has never happened before.
  7. Will this be good to use with a bromine based water?
  8. about 50 degrees.....should a cool shower be used afterwards, to close the pores and lower the body heat?
  9. Bought used 4 months ago, it's 14 year old Dimension One, change the water every 90 days, shock every week, chemicals always good (bromine based). I usually soak 2x's a week, just up to my waist. Whenever I go up to my neck (10 minutes) I have gotten a cold/cough the next day. My 17 year old daughter, the same thing. Both of us have gotten sick 2x's in the the last 4 months. Each time after the sickness neither one of us used it for 2-3 weeks until the sickness passed. Any ideas? Coincidence??
  10. How much are your NG rates there in Cali? Don't forget to deduct the cost of 2 water heater cycles from your savings. In other words if it takes 3 gallons per water heater cycle and it's a buck 75 a gallon that's 5.25 per week to reheat your tub or 21 bucks deducted from 75 dropping your savings to closer to 50. Hate to be a nasayer but the extra NG for your hot water heater and the total of extra time you put into it at your current hourly rate for yourself you may be loosing money. NG is way less and doesn't have the ripoff "above baseline" rates that kick in. But both are going to get much much worse because the green-wackos haven't let us build any nuclear in decades. And NOW they want elec cars which is very funny since we don't have any AC to spare. Brownouts are routine every summer....I might look into solar as promos and rebates unfold....thanks fr your help.
  11. I have to....running a 220 line to the patio was $1200.....all low voltage sites said it wouldn't cost that much......oh well....and high voltage in Cali is still too expensive...but this method is saving me almost $1k a year. That's a lot of coin.
  12. Baseline elc in Cali is for the first 350kw hours or thereabouts, no matter what size your house. B4 hottub we used approx 625, after, 900! 115v tub. We use it mainly on the weekends so now....I do not heat at all during the week and run a minimal 2-3 a day for filtering only. On Friday, I drain out approx 50 gallons of water....water the lawn with it. My tub is on the back patio, I run a short 8ft hose from my kitchen facet into the tub and start refilling with HOT gas heated water from the water heater. As the tub is roughly 94 degrees it heats up to 104 degrees in no time and very very cheap! Takes about two water heater cycles (done within an hour). Using AC to heat the same would take all day and run me higher over baseline. My elec usage is now around 675 hours. I save approx $75 a month using this method, plus I get some nice fresh water in the tub every Friday.
  13. Maybe BHO will buy him a new hot tub....since he's throwing so much "money we don't have" around, might as well try to get some
  14. Or the big B could make things even more of a mess. Last week. largest call up of troops in Wisconsin state history since WW2 Wow!
  15. I actually do want to inspect the pipes and jet fittings that's why I wanted to tilt it on it's side but as I'm a newbie aren't all the pipes encased in foam? I wonder where square one is to start?? I also have read about these leaks will build bacteria on te pipes and fittings which can get into the spa water and give you a horrid case of hot tub lung. Have 4 months left on the used-tub warranty from the dealer. I asked him the first time, he said to use the spa sealant that it fixes leaks 95% of the time. Hmmm......where can I find the jet fittings to tighten?
  16. Have been getting a little water leak at the base of the tub on the concrete. It's now turning into green moss/algae. Was going to have a service call but it was then dry for two days. Same filter cycle and usage. Nothing dripping from cover moisture. Gave it a dose of sealant, drained, refilled and have the same problem. No water in the pump compartment. Question, if I drain it again and turn it on it's side, can I easily remove the wooden base to see if any pipes are leaking? Or are all the pipes insulated so I can see them? It's a 14 year old Dimension 1 that I bought used from a dealer. The tub is is extremely good shape, he installed a new pump motor and an Ozonator. Love the tub but the lead is driving me crazy. My elec bill is thru the roof but that's a diff topic. Here's some pics, the grass you see at the leak is from my lawn mower an hour ago, the water is green without it.
