  1. Do you have pump water flow when the heater is turned on? If not get the pump / flow switch circuit under control.
  2. Twice my air blower did not turn on even thought the panel showed it running. I reseated the blower power connection in the circuit board and each time it then workrd fine.
  3. Northern New Jersey we installed our hot tub, a Sundance Optima in the fall of 1998. We use it outdoors all year long even the winter. All pumps are original equipment. One pipe leak I repaired (under the filter area)was tough but persistance paid off. A circuit board was replaced by the dealer for $400.00. I installed a new ozonator one time. I replaced the flow switch and twice replaced the temp sensor (thermister). I keep a spare heater replacement on hand just in case. I would buy another Sundance as I do not think 13 years and a few repairs are a problem.
  4. Is the spa outdoors in the sun? How much filtering do you have it set to do each day and at what time of the day? Sorry to sound like a real ditz...but I have no idea Whatever they set it to when they came and installed. In the cold weather the temperature was always exactly at where it was set to. Now that we have spring weather (finally!) it's running at 2-3 degrees higher than where it is set.
  5. check this out"+++++ What is occurring in your plumbing system is refer to as "Blue Water Syndrome". It is not an electrolysis problem but a water chemistry issue. All new copper piping dissolves at a rate of .001-.003 per inch, per year during the first few years of installation. Blue water occurs many times in homes which are larger and only a few occupants or if a soft water conditioner was installed before the piping was in ever used and is over softening the water. There are a few other reasons why you can have an accelerated rate of copper dissolving as well. Some of which is if the pH is below 6.5 copper solvency occurs. In addition the changes made as part of the EPA Safe Water Act of 1991 removing of NOM's from the water has caused a lack of the protective patina which occurs as the copper is dissolving."
  6. My 500 gal tug is in full sun all day. It will pick up 5 to 10 degrees from solar in the summer. I run 96 deg to 98 deg all during the winter months. For the summer I cut back to 88 to 92 depending upon the weather. If it's too hot I turn on the air jets to cool it down.
  7. Which model Sundance? What year Sundance?
  8. Prove the company erred. They should pay for return of the pump and FEDEX Red overnight a new pump as you so properly ordered. Grrr... I checked the pump when I got it and can see the tag in the spa and it's 115v which is the listed part for the spa but looking at the old pump it's a 230v. I have no idea of why they list the wrong part in the manual nor why they sent me a 115v when I ordered the part for this spa from the manufacturer. But at least I know what is going on. Thanks I guess I can look into wiring it 115v or ship it back and be down another week
  9. Think of that part as an adapter from plastic glue to threaded. May be found locally at a plumbing supply. Hold the opposite end of the shaft under the housing on the motor with a wrench or screwdriver depending, and turn the impellor left. You can get just the suction cover http://www.epoolshop.com/aquafloflo-master...variation=10673
  10. Yes it is 2007. I do not have a problem with your company, actually Theresa did all she could I just could not put up with more time spen on that project as 3 times may be a fluke but honestly put yourself in my position. Awaiting delivery dates and receiving holes in cardboard and vinyl. I'm glad you have upgraded both shippers and containers. Thank you for a response and your kind offer. If you can send a cover that arrives undamaged I would gladly accept a replacement cover. I do have all of the email correspondence saved from Theresa. Regards, John
  11. Read this cut and pasted disclaimer - ordering spa cover on-line. Important delivery Information...................... Once you sign for, and accept delivery of your cover you can not make any damage claim!! Before signing for, and accepting delivery of your new spa cover from the shipping company, please carefully examine the box containing your cover. Your signature accepting delivery of the cover is a contractual agreement that you are accepting the cover as is, and you are releasing all other parties of responsibility for any damage that may have occurred during shipping. We have taken some extraordinary measures to assure that your new spa cover is delivered to you in pristine condition. The cover itself is wrapped in a 4 mil plastic, then put into a heavy cardboard box and padded with Styrofoam. The box is then sealed and again wrapped with 4 mil plastic. Although it is extremely rare, it is still possible for the shipping company to damage a cover during shipment. Please note; while it is extremely rare, it is possible for the shipping company to damage a cover during shipment. Please carefully inspect the package for damage before signing for delivery. It is not unusual for the outer plastic wrap or even the cardboard box to sustain some damage during shipping. The packaging is designed to protect your new spa cover and to act as a "sacrificial material", if need be. Tears and rips in the outer plastic, and small tears in the cardboard are to be expected and normal. Large holes or punctures in the cardboard however are not normal (though not necessarily an indication of damage to the cover). If you notice any damage (holes in the plastic or cardboard box, or crush marks) ask to open the box and inspect the cover BEFORE SIGNING FOR IT (even if the box appears is good condition, inspecting the cover before signing isn't a bad idea, if the driver allows). Although rare, some drivers may not allow inspection of the cover. If this is the case, simply write, "packaging damaged, conditional upon inspection" on the delivery paper work and accept the cover. Additionally, the responsibility of the delivery company is to deliver your new cover to your home as outlined above. They will not deliver your cover to your backyard, assist you in unpacking it or remove your old cover. If by chance you find any damage to the actual cover prior to signing for it, do not, DO NOT ACCEPT DELIVERY! Our extensive quality control assures we inspected your cover at least 3 times before shipping it out to you and it was shipped in perfect condition. The independent shipping company is responsible for and insured against any damage. Your signature of acceptance on the delivery receipt is a contractual agreement releasing the shipping company and us of all responsibility. If you discover damage AFTER signing for the cover, CALL THE SHIPPING COMPANY AT ONCE, DO NOT DELAY (be sure to tell them the damage was "concealed damage"). While the rate of damaged covers is less that 1/2 of 1%, following the above instructions would get a replacement cover to you in just a few days. Accepting a damaged cover, then filing a claim could prolong the process for weeks. Please do not discard you old cover before receiving and inspecting your new cover. If you have any questions or concerns regarding you order please feel free to contact us. The best method for communications is by calling us at (800) 735-5290, Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5pm PST. You can also email us at though we prefer the personal touch allowed via phone. * Some delivery companies may not allow you to open the box to inspect the cover. If this is the case, accept delivery and when signing the delivery receipt also write conditional upon inspection. Also note any noticeable damage to the box on delivery receipt you sign. Then immediately inspect the cover. If any problems are found please call us ASAP and then report the problem IMMEDIATELY to the shipping company
  12. Here is my new cover story. Ref RH Tubs The order was placed on line but be carefull. I admit to not paying close enough attention. The skirt under my cover needs to be 3 1/2" and I got 3" Putting the corect size into the form is tricky. Global Logistics ships the cover. The shipping container is only banded cardboard. Easily damaged in transit. 8/6 shipped, 8/31 received damaged cardboard wrapped cover. On a 96" square tub this is a 48" x 98" x 8" package. You are requested to inspect the product before accepting delivery. So are you or your SO going to lay this out in the yard, cut straps and unwrap to check for damages? Anywy the damage was clearly evident as the cover must have falled onto a 2" x 2" L and pierced with fork truck forks. So refused cover and ordered up a replacement. Taz Kurtz the shipping claims manager was very accommodating and we proceeded to move in a positive direction. 8/31 Replacement cover shipping 10/23 per notice from Taz Kurtz - Global Logistics Replacement has shipped 11/1 per notice from RH tubs So the replacement cover arrived 11/03 package and cover was unopened and foam >insulation was visable. There were 2 holes through >the cardboard shipper. Delivery denied. Do you think we have a problem here? Theresa from RH tubs was a pleasure to deal with throughout this order. Wow another damaged cover!! I will get right on this and we should be able to even maybe get the remake out this week on Thursday. I will do what I can I'm my power to get it out ASAP. Once again I am sorry this happened again, Thank you, Theresa Global Logistics again 11/8 shipping Hi John, I am sorry to hear that the 3rd cover has arrived also damaged. I will request a sign off for the delivery and try to get in a vinyl skin replacement order. I will contact Global Logistics and do what ever possible to rectify this situation. You may go ahead and use the cover for now and I will work on getting a replacement vinyl in the works. I will update you when I get the paperwork necessary for the claim and procedures. Thanks Theresa 3rd Cover Damaged At 08:43 AM 11/30/2007, you wrote: Theresa, The cover arrived with a small tear in the gray vinyl cover but does not appear to to have ripped the balck vapor barrier. My wife signed for it "conditionally" to be reviewed with manufacturer. The tear is 1/4" x 1/4". It is located on the inside corner where the 2 covers are joined. Since it is on the bottom and not visable do you advise we keep and use the cover. If so can you send a repair kit for this? This is the 3rd cove and this is getting tiresome. Regards, John Theresa response Hi John, I have received the information I need to send the remake order in. Would a remake vinyl skin be acceptable? I need to know if we are remaking the entire cover or just the vinyl skin? Please advise. thanks Theresa At that point I just gave up. I blame myself for dealing with a cover manufacture 3000 miles away. So at this time I am using a replacement cover with vinyl patches. Lesson learned, RH tubs tried very hard, they have a good cover but unfortunate crosscountry shipper.
  13. Just a thought. My Optima leak was on a 2" suction T and only drips when the pump is off. So if thats you situation, it probably will not leak with the pumps running.
  14. Another consideration HP is nice but the pump impeller size is never stipulated in the mfg. literature. The same pumps housing can have numerous pomp capabilities or outputs for the same HP. You need to wet test and understand the sales literature.
  15. Probe with a sharpened wood dowel stick. Hey Drewskie. Not sure if this helps but I had a leak on my Sundance optima. When I started digging I came across a check valve that was in the suction line at the bottom of the tub. The check valve was basically cracked in half and that was my leak. I had wet spots all around my tub so I would think if it has been leaking long enough it could be from areas farther then you think. So if you have these suction lines check the valve areas.
  16. Ken, What has been posted above to refute your initial post is a how great Spas are constructed today. Shop around and you will likely not purchase from whoever gave you that info.
  17. 1 hour soak, 1 cigar, 1 martini, 2 jazz CD's - I know my limitations Hi, I think the main reason is that you may drown! I have always found that i get drunk twice as quick in a tub. I think this is because the hot water increases blood circulation anyone know any other reason please jump in and correct me. I dont think any hot tub manufacturer would ever recomend drinking in a tub but maybe other readers could give their opinion as to whether they do or dont. In all things moderation. I'd guess 90% of this forum partakes in an adult beverage from time to time in the hot tub. Make sure you've got a friend with you, and don't get drunk. I typically don't drink in the tub, but in late December, on a perfectly clear and sunny winter day, I sat in the tub and had 4 beers over 2 hours, longest soak ever ... it was paradise ... pruney, but paradise. 18. 3 to 5 x a week enjoyment has not worn off after 10 years of tubbing. Newbie answering anyway ... LOL. 6 to 7 times a week the first month 5 to 6 the second month 4 to 5 the third month I think 3 a week is average, if not a little low. The novelty does wear off, but I really miss my tub if I haven't been in it for two days in a row. DK117
  19. My 1989 Sundance Optima kept tripping the GFI breaker until I changed out the motherboard.
  20. Remove panels Sharpen a dowl stick poke foam starting high, then a few inches (6") lower. You will know when the stick is really wet in the leak area. Suggest you start under the filter cavity. As I mentionjed in a former post the stop leak did not work on a suction fitting. Weather permitting shut it off and let it drain down to the leak if your sure it's not in the equipment bay. When it stops loosing water see whats at the water line. Thanks Roger that was my first instinct. My luck it'll go all the way to the foot jets
  21. So that means my circ pump has run non stop since 1998. wahoo Yes - the circ pump and ozonator are both designed to run 24/7, the heater is on the same circuit, and will kick in and out to meet your temp requirements. Is is necessary for it to run 24/7? Dunno, but because the circ pump negates any need to run the main pumps for any real length of time (maybe an hour a day depending upon your settings) it should still work out cost-effective as it consumes relatively little electric. As far as I'm aware there is no option to switch the circ pump on/off in cycles.
  22. Sundance - The air jets bring in outside air and are always cool at startup.. I don't know how anyone could say Costco makes it easy!! I guess as long as you could care less how comfortable it is!!
  23. I agree there is almost always a few degrees difference between actual and set. It would be nice if the control circuit boards were fabricated with a trim pot so the thermisters could be trimmed to read accurately.
  24. So every Sat night 6 - 8 I listen to Prarie Home Companion NPR for 2 hours. I have been enjoying G. Keilor now for 35 years or so. 6 pm Anyway, the spa was too warm so I hit the blower and turned down the temp. 6 :10 pm - Settled down with a glass of special batch rum, an Opus RDC and shortly thereafter fell asleep. Ahhhhhhhhhhh woke up 30 minutes later relit the cigar and finished off a nice soak. 8 pm exited spa and watched a movie. No the cigar did not get wet as I am a professional with 10 ears of soaking under my Speedo.
