  1. I don't think this is true: "On the newer tubs, 2000 and up, the ozone is surpressed/shut off if you touch any of your control buttons." I know for a fact that this is not true on 2008 Hot Springs models. You can prove it by putting a glass over where the ozone bubbles come out (with water, of course, so the bubbles displace the water). Once it is full of the ozone infused air, turn it over and "sniff" the bubble as it comes out. If you don't know what ozone smells like, you most definitely will after this experiment. I did this so I would know the smell so I would be able to confirm that my ozonator was working in the future. The Hot Springs manuals mention nothing about an ozone safety cutoff. They are all stated to be on all the time - 24/7. I read through several other manuals when hunting for a tub last year and I don't recall any of them having such a "shut off" feature. Additionally, I have a friend who has been a Vita Spas dealer for several years, and I just asked him - he agrees that such a "shut off" feature does not exist on any of their tubs. Sorry to burst your bubble (pun intended - and credit given to the Vita dealer). I'd def. check your manual for a confirmation of your tub - it's clearly not an industry wide feature. Besides, with the cover off, you won't be breathing in the ozone in any unreasonable concentration.
  2. It's been that way since day one. To clarify, the seats that have both the small jets in a group (air controlled by a valve at the top) and larger jets as well - on those seats, the larger jets with the faceplate you turn do not bubble. Two seats have small assortments of large jets that turn at the faceplate - those do mix in the air appropriately. So the non-bubbly seats are actually half non-bubbly (the faceplate half) The biggest spin violator is the spinner in the left armrest on the only seat with armrest jets. That's annoying, as it doesn't feel at all like it's supposed to.
  3. I have a hot springs Envoy which is similar to the Sovereign. Mine is a 2008 model installed in early November. I do love the Hot Springs, and I did wet test the Sovereign. I didn't like the sitting moto massage nearly as much as I liked it in the lounger. Something to consider if you haven't wet tested a Envoy. Whatever you get, do get a 24/7 circulation pump and ozonator. You will appreciate never hearing your hot tub unless you are in it. Someone mentioned that the Sundance has the best Jets in the industry. I must say that this may be true. While I love my Hot Springs jets, I must admit that some of them tend to "pop out" requiring you to turn off the pumps to be able to push them back in. Also, the ones that are supposed to spin don't always do so, even at the highest pressure (pump at full power and diverter valve completely turned to the jet in question). Many of mine tend to spray in one direction for a second, then flip, then spray for another second in the new direction. This does NOT give the pulsating feel Hot Springs advertises. If you like bubbles, then be warned that many of the hot springs jets that you turn at the face plate never bubble, at any setting or pump speed. They are supposed to bubble when you turn the jet's face plate, but they simply never do. The smaller jets clusters which are controlled by the single separate air diverter knob on the top of the tub all work appropriately and you can turn the air on or off. Whatever you do - WET TEST. Some tubs with 50some jets are not nearly as comfortable wet as tubs with a mere 20 jets. And don't be fooled - what seems comfortable dry may feel completely different wet. For me, some loungers threw me out of the seat. Others held me just fine (Envoy). Wet test wet test wet test.
  4. I was hoping to post an email from a manufacturer I received on this topic, but apparently I deleted it. Anyway, I was told that it looses about 5% potency per year. It may have been 5-10 percent. Either way, I wouldn't throw it out, but would instead use it, and add a little extra above the typical recipe to be sure you are using enough. It's an oxidizer, so you use a little extra to be sure you are oxidizing enough. If you use the MPS every day and dichlor once a week, just be sure your dichlor uses are similar to what they have been. If you find your chlorine is being used up more than you are used to, then maybe you are not using enough of the aged MPS. Hope this helps.
  5. Man, I'm so hot when I get out that I never notice that my towel has gotten cold. It was 15 degrees today when I got out, and the "cold" towel was unnoticeable. Most people don't realize how warm a tub makes you, so for those new to hottubbing who are planning on installing something like this before they really start to use their tub, I'd recommend waiting before worrying about it. But a cool idea for those who need one.
  6. Hot Springs says their filters are dishwasher safe. They say not to use soap, but just do a rinse cycle, no heat.
  7. I have used SpaDepot.com in the past. Their prices seem good and everything was shipped quite quickly. I got my package earlier than I should have, according to their website. I'd be interested in what others think, as I will need to order some more MPS soon.
  8. Here's how I dug into the hill next to my deck. Fairly new, but we've had a lot of rain in the past month and there's not been any problem: http://photolinguist.net/galleries/spa.php
  9. What's really odd here is that the Hot Springs 2008 model Pre-Delivery instructions specifies 8 gauge wire for a 50 amp breaker to the sub panel (which is then split into a 30 amp and a 20 amp GFI). From the chart above, it would seem like that 8 gauge wouldn't be code, if code requires the wire match the breaker size, rather than the expected load. The instructions do specify that a higher gauge may be required for "longer runs" but still...
  10. I'm sure the Hot Springs employer would greatly appreciate a nice letter stating why his employee turned you away from the sale. I'm sure (or I would hope) he wasn't behaving so poorly right in front of his boss. Myself, I found my Hot Springs dealer to be wonderful. He never spoke a bad word about any other company I said I was looking at/considering. He also answered every question I had, and when I asked about other companies, he would acknowledge the areas they excelled in or simply explain the differences and let me decide which was better. He was a class act! A Vita dealer I went to had nothing good to say about other companies though. It really turned me off of their spas (that and the wet test, but by the time of the wet test, I was actually hoping NOT to like the spa).
  11. My install is here. Not fancy, but I don't have any helpers: http://photolinguist.net/galleries/spa.php While I'm here, I want to thank everyone for their help in this forum. I read a lot before my purchase, and everyone's comments have been very helpful.
  12. I was a new member yesterday, made three posts, and now I'm a new new member today, so I'd say the entire tableset *MySQL* was lost and replaced with a backup.
