  1. Found the union to the pump squirting on shutdown, replaced and everything is working perfectly, not that anyone cares.
  2. Noticed a squirt out of the union entering the pump on shutdown
  3. Pump is 1 year old and was working fine yesterday, but a multipprt union was spraying and it was cracked. Today I glued on a new union and a few hours later started the pump and cannot get suction. Admission-When I started it yesterday I primed it with 2 gallons of shock, thinking it would circulate for hours but the crack made me shut it down immediately. The shock sat in the basket and wherever else overnight. Could I have screwed up the impeller or something? When I fill the basket with water, the pump sucks it down but does not draw water through the suction lines.
  4. I have a 20+ year old superpump and have never had a problem with it. The inground pool, with a clean filter, opens at about 8 PSI. It used to require backwashing between 17 and 21 PSI. Now it requires backwashing between 12 and 15,and the pool is growing algae much quicker. Do I try an impeller first,or is this indicating a worn out pump? Thanks.
  5. My experience has always been 7 psi after backwashing but never after just turning off the pump for a few minutes or after recirculating. My fear is air in the system.
  6. Opened my pool yesterday. The filter pressure opened at 7 and several hours later was at 17,so I backwashed and readded DE. A couple of hours later it went back to 17 so I put it on circulate overnight. When I put it back to filter, the pressure was back to 7. 2 hours later it went back to 17. I turned the pump off for a few minutes and turned it back on and it was back to 7. Any thoughts?
  7. Is anyone familiar with this direct drive wall climber? My neighbor's no longer moves and I can't find any info online.
  8. My neighbor complained to me her pump basket would fill with all air in 15 minutes. She had 2 pool companies pressure test the suction lines and they were good. Is 45 minutes of holding pressure good enough? I went over there and checked the impeller, basket gasket, basket drains and fittings and they are all good. I snaked out the line for an obstruction and it was good. It is a 40 year old gunite pool with original DE filter, that had the elements and Valpak backwash valve changed last year. When I ran the pump,it never got to more than 75% water in the basket. Any ideas?
  9. Thanks. I went with the T103. 120V.
  10. Thank you. I only have 120V at the pool house.
  11. My pool pump has never been on a timer. I'm gonna need one this year as we go away for 3 weeks in July. Any suggestions on a mechanical type timer? Thanks. 120V

  13. My inground pool has 2 suction ports, one at the skimmer and one a foot below the skimmer. In the past I have drained the pool about 18 inches to blow out that bottom line and plugged it. Is there a more efficient and less costly way? I thought there maybe a plug with a check valve allowing to blow through but not allowing water to flow back in. Thanks.
  14. So no symptoms if shaft seal or impeller or bearing is failing.
  15. 5 15oz coffee cans to open and after backwashing I add about 1 can. Air in pump basket is 1 bubble when pressure is at 10 PSI and a much larger bubble at 15 PSI and half air/half water at 20 PSI.
  16. What are the symptoms of an old or tired pump?
  17. Changed out suction side manifold and Multiport valve. We'll see. Pump is probably 20-25 years old and impeller about 7 or 8 years. Could pump be tired if the air increases when the filter gets dirtier?
  18. Thanks, this filter pressure is now going from 13 to 20 in 2 hours with a pump basket half filled with air. Just changed all the filter elements with brand new ones when I opened the pool 7 days ago.. What type of filter is this? It's a Hayward DE. No Solar. I will be replacing the multiport valve and 2 screw on ball valves today. Unless both suction lines are leaking below ground or at the pool, everything will have been changed, cleaned and blown out. Won't know til I start it back up tomorrow. Thanks for looking.
  19. Not the suction problem but I just found the return lock nut of the vari-flow valve split in half. Filter is dirty but I don't think 8 psi rise should cause such loss of suction.
  20. Thanks, this filter pressure is now going from 13 to 20 in 2 hours with a pump basket half filled with air. Just changed all the filter elements with brand new ones when I opened the pool 7 days ago..
  21. I have a multiport at the filter and 2 suction side ball valves that are removable, threaded type. Think I'm going to redo that manifold with permanently attached ball or gate valves. I'll check all the other connections too. Thanks.
  22. I opened the pool and filter pressure was around 10 PSI and pump basket had the bubble at top. A day later the filter was at 18 PSI and the pump basket was half water half air. Indication of suction leak? When filtering there is some choking and sputtering at the return ports. Thanks.
  23. Went to vacuum the pool of what I thought was pine needle debris and it turned out to be algae/stains. It's very dark green or black and very very hard to scrub loose from 10 feet. Is there a way to chemically loosen it from the liner or an easier way to remove it? It would take hours to do it as I am with a scrub brush as it's very very stubborn. Thanks.
  24. Is this it Scott? I may already own one. So I plug the hole 24" down in the water with this and then blow through the disconnected line up at the filter back through this gizmo. How do I know when it's empty? Is this a plug that allows water/air to flow one way and then closes or do I have to pull it out and put it back in? Thanks for the help,I've been dropping this water 3 feet every year and then refilling, didn't know there was a better way. http://www.poolweb.com/SUPER-DUPER-GIZZMO-18
