We have a similar setup.
I only added cyanuric acid (aka "stabilizer" or "conditioner") to slow down the destruction of the chlorine
through the sunlight. This will make the chlorine last longer and you can run the swg for less than 3 hours
a day (or it will produce too much chlorine!). I'm running my pump for 6 hours at night. That seems fine.
And get the AquaChek salt test strips.
I hope this helps.
Also sort of the same setup here.
i run it 2 to 3 hours depending on the tempreture.
I don't use any chemicals and the water is fine during this season.
i did use salt teststrips but i find them expensive, i now have a digital salt meter.
It works perfect, found it on ebay (HM Digital TDS-4TM Tester/Meter, Salt+Temperture, Pool).
I run the pump for 6 hours.
Hi Ronald, I do appreciate your reply and sharing your experience will certainly help us. What type of swg are you using? And you don't have to add any other chemicals or conditioner to your pool at all? Just the salt. Sounds great. It sounds like the salt meter you purchased also tests the temp of your pool as well. Do you have your system set on two different timers? What time of day are you running the pump.
Thanks again for all the info, it's very helpful. Boy we didn't realize all the work a back yard pool would entail. It's good brain work though and we are having a ball enjoying the pool fun.
I am using the SWG from intex, the standalone.
The pup operates for 7 hours a day starting at 9 am.
The SWG runs 2 or 3 hours depending on the pool temp.
They both have their own timers, the SWG uses its build in timer.
Make sure you set the pump earlier then the SWG otherwise you get the message "90" in the display (no flow).
I don't use any other chemicals or conditioner .
The saltmeter works perfect and measures also the temp .
The season so far, everything ok no prolems with the water.
So just salt.
