  1. Hi all, my hot spring spa has no power. I believe it's a sovereign I year 1999. I've reset the GFCI, which was NOT tripped. The voltage at the outlet is correct. Still, the hot tub has no power, lights, activity at all. Can someone walk me through troubleshooting steps to isolate and repair parts? Here's a photo of my control board. What else would you need to see?
  2. I REALLY could use some help here! Starting last year, we've had recurring metal / rust stains on our pool. It occurs mostly on our white steps in the shallow end, but slowly is building all over the liner too. We tried 2 things that were able to get rid of it temporarily: 1. Lowering the PH - did this last year, took a few hours and then a long time to get the ph back in balance. 2. Absorb X - amazing. removed ALL of the stains in minutes. steps looked brand new. A few days after we did absorb x this year, rust stains started to slowly come back. We started looking for the source of the rust/metal and we noticed rust on our deep end ladder. I removed it immediately and bought a new ladder. The stains still came back and are slowly spreading around the pool. I see no other metal in contact with the pool. When we have the water tested, they do not detect metal in the water. So they usually try to treat for brown algea, and that does nothing. The metal treatments seem to work though, but only temporarily. Does anyone have any idea where this metal could be coming from or what else might cause this problem? Thanks! Rick
  3. Hi all, I have been fighting rust stains on the liner and steps...finally realized why it keeps coming back. The underside of the ladder in the deep end was getting rusty. I used steel wool on it and was able to get the vast majority off, but not all, as some of the rust is in corners I can't reach. Is it worth buying a new ladder for, have I removed enough rust to make a difference, or is there something else i can try? Thanks! Rick
  4. I'm considering doing with out a diving board....possibly replacing with a slide. Anyone have any suggestions at all? Thanks!
  5. Hi all. I have an old Aqua Slide 'n' Dive brand 6' x 16" diving board. The bolts are on 10" centers. And it desperately needs to be replaced. The problem is that my fulcrum is set at 24" and all of the boards I can find have a minimum of 30" fulcrum (they are also a bit more wide, but I think I can deal with that). What do I do? I've called SR Smith directly to ask and they do not have a workable replacement. Anyone have any advice? Is the only option to rip out the U brackets? If so, how difficult is that? Thanks!
  6. Thanks for the help. So, if TriChlor causes all of these issues, what is the best way to keep my pool chlorinated and in balance with out all of these side effects?
  7. Is there anything I can do to combat the acid being introduced by the Trichlor Tabs? Also, I shocked with Liquid chlorine and the chlorine level came up to 2. Thanks for the advice.
  8. I'm using the 5 drops test. It has a chlorine test (yellow) on one side and PH (red) on the other. Thanks for the help!
  9. Mine is also similar to that, how ever, my steps are extended past the outer wall of the shallow end. It makes kind of an U shape Like this: ______..........______ ...........|_____| So, I could cover the main part of the pool...but the steps would be exposed...unless I removed the rails. Any thoughts?
  10. Thanks Chem Geek. I'm using the drop test and it shows no chlorine or very low chlorine. And the PH tends to be drift low. Does that make sense? I dont' think it is a bleaching problem, do you? Thanks again!
  11. Thanks for the info. I may have too much chlorine, but if so, it's not registering as such on my tests. Is there something that makes it not show up? Also, I dumped a ton of PH Plus in tonight and got the PH up to 7.2 . I will test tomorrow night and see if it's dropped again. Also, the Alk was around 75 (low), so does that throw of PH or chlorine readings. Figuring out the relationships to all these tests is pretty hard. Anyone with help is welcome. Thanks!
  12. Thanks for the info. I hadn't thought of a flip up ladder. I'm not sure if that would help with the shallow end rails for the steps...but something to keep in mind. Anyone actually done a DIY?
  13. Just thought I'd see if anyone had good experience or advice for installing an automatic pool cover. I've recieved some quotes for the hardware and the places say they are easy to install. I have a 16 X 32 inground pool, with Steps at one end and in in pool ladder in the deep end. The big questions I have are: How difficult is it to install the track for the cover to run on at the pool edge? What do you do with the Steps (especially the railings and the deep end ladder that would be in the way of a sliding cover? Will the cover box fit underneath of my diving board? Any experts or DIYers, give me a shout. Thanks!
  14. All, I've got two issues: FIRST: I used PH minus to remove some stains in my pool. My PH dropped to 6.2, stains were gone, and now I've been using PH plus to get the PH back up. I've used ALOT of PH Plus, but it doesn't seem to want to come up past 6.8...in fact, it will come up for a day or so, then head back down. I've put in about 8 lb of plus...but it won't stay. I could use some advice. SECOND: The chlorine also doesn't want to register. I know it's in there because I can smell it in the pool we've used a ton of tablets. We have a new test kit, so I'm pretty sure it's not the testing solution. I've also used the test strips and they say pretty much the same low reading. Is this related to the first issue? Thanks for any help!
  15. My brother in law is a big guy...and he put a crack in my diving board. The crack is in the fiber glass on side, just above the front U bar...where all the leverage is applied - bad place for a crack. Now, when and adult stands on the end of the board, it makes a creeking sound and bends about 4 inches lower than before. It's a pretty old board, so probably time for a replacement anyway. There doesn't seem to be any way to repair the board, so I am trying to figure out which 6' diving board I need and where to buy. I have attached a photo of mine. I've looked on several sites, but can't find one that looks like it uses the same mounting system. I can get one from a local store, but they want almost a $1000. Please take a look at the photo and tell me if you have recommendations for where to buy a good replacement (or any repair ideas). Thanks a lot.
