  1. Doesnt your system shut down since it should sense an overheat. Circ pumps shut off when 2 degrees over the set temp, entire spa shuts off when it reaches 107-108, You would have to be careful since overriding these protections could toast the control system and or other components
  2. The chlorine will not test low with high CYA, the chlorine is less effective, thus you must maintain a higher chlorine level to kill germs. the below link will help you understand this and other water paramiters http://www.poolcalculator.com/chemistry.html Dichlor (the granuales you are using) has its downside in a spa enviroment because of the CYA build up, just plan on frequent water changes. trichlor, are low on the PH scale, cheap brand or not. i am assuming you may have purchased the ones that now have copper in them, thats why we ask for the ingreidients listed on the bottle. Good luck and I hope the link helps you
  3. I think they most likley are from copper, specially if you are using the tablets that have it in them, or it could be in your source water and it has fallen out of suspension and has just shown up. Also, are you using a clarifier, some of the "blue Goo" type ones will cause a blue ring on the spa and blue filters. If you are going to stay with chlorine, you may need to develop a differnt method or change your water everythime the CYA gets high, or maybe Bromine is a better route for you.
  4. A few years ago on this forum was a post from a gentleman that now has heart issues, serious ones, from getting sick from using an unsanitary spa. he was not told how to do it correctly, and if I remember right, was relying on strictly ozone. he almost died, and now can barely do anything
  5. these are the lifters we sell, and like a lot. they are very rugged. Not sure if they are in the UK or not, you can check http://www.coverplay.com/coverup
  6. The more recent one, the poster was using the aqua check strip reader, this one is not as accurate as the color q, first you have to did the strip at the same time as pressing the "go" button and get the strip in straight before it starts to read, Alk is never right on this one, I actually asked them about it at a trade show, and they said they knew there was an issue, but have developed new strips. The color q meter is using the same reagents as a test kit for most the test, you are just having the machine read the color for you rather than your eye, which is more accurate for people who are color blind, or have difficulties telling the colors, even tayors wise lab, i sometimes find the PH hard to tell, specially 7.6-7.8. I have had no real issues with the color Q tester
  7. I am still waiting to hear from parts, and this is not even for warrenty parts! Michelle assured me they are still doing warrenty, along with paying the techs....but i am wondering since I can not seem to get ahold of anyone else. Makes it tough for people to want to continue to buy from them since they are still out there, just having tubs made by someone else.
  8. There is such a thing, you would need to talk to your tax person, it is not easy to get, just a note does not do it.
  9. We can agree to disagree I guess, In my CPO class, and in several discussions on forums in classes ect. This issue has been brought up. Here is one link that may help, not only does it effect how much chlorine you need, it can askew other testing. http://poolspanews.com/2008/052/pdf/Acid_watch.pdf
  10. This was emailed to me, I though it was very cute! Hot Tub Health Care Reform No matter what the political pundits are pushing from day to day, one thing for sure is that they will never agree on anything. So we have come up with our own national health care strategy. If absolutely nothing else, we know that hot tubs are part of a healthy lifestyle and they signifcantly improve overall health and well being. Hot Tub Health it has been medically proven over and over again that hot tubs reduce stress levels, encourage blood flow, lower blood pressure, reduce anxiety, improve sleep patterns, improve conditions such as arthritis, bursitis, stiffness, chronic back pain and recently the Mayo clinic published clinical results that showed improved heart function in those who regularly soaked in a hot tub. All benifits of exercise without strain on the heart. Hot Tub Economics There are 80 million homes in America. If the government bought every household in the U.S. a hot tub with an average cost of $5000.00, we could improve the health of every american from coast to coast. Imagine how much money that would save! It would only cost $400 billion dollars while significantly adding jobs. It takes about 2.5 people a day to build a spa. We could hire hundreds of thousands of people from factory workers to electricians and hot tub installers, and as time goes on chemicals, repair techs and so on! getting the US government to agree to give her citizens a hot tub is probably never going to happen, but we can reduce our long term health care costs by regularly soaking in a hot tub. Improve your overall health and soak in a hot tub today, you will be glad you did!
  11. I use the color q frequently, it has been very accurate, except for the CYA test, always way off. You must make sure to clean the tubes well, they will discolor, and make sure to wipe them dry befor putting them into the machine, water on the lens screws things up, I had to send mine out to be fixed. Its nice not to have to match colors which many people have an issue with. You dont have to multiply to get bromine, the machine does it for you, you just skip the test for CC.
  12. I disagree with the 3-5 month water change if using dichlor. Dichlor only systems have to be changed every month or two depending on spa use or the CYA will build up, which makes the chlorine not effective unless you add much more of it, which will also add more CYA and so on. If you have added a lot of dichlor over the past month and a half, you will have issues because the lower doses of chlorine will not keep up any more because the CYA is high. I would also suggest you get a taylor test kit, in this kit you can test for CYA also. The test strips are not accurate for CYA at all, at least what I have seen.
  13. My husband and I are both on blood pressure meds, i don't have any issues, he does if the water is too hot and he stays in too long. He will have dizzy spells. Last year, he used the hot tub, when he got out he was dizzy, he got into the house then passed out. They next day he had a heart attack. The doc thinks the hot tub helped play a role into causing a piece of plaque to be dislodged which snowballed into the heart attack. The warm water and jets increase blood flow, so it does have some effect on you, even if your blodd pressure is controlled, which is part of why tubs can only go to 104 now, and have timers that shut off the jets. My husband still uses the tub, but very much pays attention to if he is starting to overheat or feel dizzy, he gets right out.
  14. Are you using the borates as suggested in the dichlor/bleach method?
  15. This is the first time I have heard that you can not use bromine in a tub, or sodium bromide. You need to ask them if salt will hurt the tub next time, bodium bromide is dead sea salt, chlorine is salt. If you are going to use chlorine you need to read up on everything. If you are using bleach, you must follow the dichloe/bleach method exact or you will damage the tub. if you are going to use just dichlor, plan on draining the tub frequently, and if you choose chlorine, you need to be aware this is a daily process to maintaining the water chemistry. There are also liquid sodium bromide products out there (leisure time reserve) although they are rather pricy to purchase this way. Store brand bleach has more phoshates in it which can create other problems, although i think you are fine to use the first gallon, but before doing bleach please look up the dichlor bleach method the Chem Geek and nitro did up.
  16. Sounds like a few issues may be going on, first you had an issue with the pump, it was trying to start, but not doing so correctly. This may have overloaded the circuits and blow a fuse and or transformer.
  17. If you go to the water chemistry section of the forum, there is a lot of information that will help you, but as PFC5 said, we need more info. Also, what are you using to check the water, if they are test strips, what is the expiration date on them.
  18. 3 flashing dots is a flo error, there are a few things that can cause this. The most common after a water change in cold weather is either the pump is airbound, or the impeller has a little ice in it causeing it not to turn. is the pump that moves the watyer to heat moving water? if its not moving water then you need to first make sure your pump is not air bound, losen the top nut on the pump till some water runs through, if thats not it, try aiming a hair dryer at the pump wet end for awhile, or a space heater, this should thaw it enough to get it moving. If it is moving water, then as the other poster said, check the pressure switch.
  19. This is what was sent to me. Another email stated that the polysteel line will still be manufactured in Lake mary. MEMO TO: Leisure Bay Dealer Partners FROM: Dave Czech RE: Celebrity Line of Spas We are pleased to announce that we have formed a partnership agreement with Sunrise Spas. As part of that agreement, effective January 1, 2011, our line of Celebrity spas (the Hilo, Bimini, Tonga, and Milan) will be produced in Sunrise Spas facility in Grimsby, Ontario. While the current model names will remain, we will re-brand the platform under the Dreammaker name. We will continue to manufacture the Dreammaker rotational series, and our Polysteel line of spas in our Lake Mary, FL plant. At the recent IPSE Show, we introduced some design enhancements that will be incorporated into the Celebrity line for 2011. We will be moving from a wood frame to a powder coated tubular steel frame. Additionally, we will be incorporating an ABS floor design. Lastly, all spas will be insulated with Roxul. This is a proven insulation method, and meets stringent CEC standards. Combined, we believe these enhancements should advance our position within the marketplace. We will be offering some additional acrylic colors to the current palette as well.
  20. Yes, you are right, my hubby says his bad, he didn't see the jumper there, he said that earlier...that he had to move the jumper, then missed it in the pics. It should trip the breaker before it damages anything, I will email the op.
  21. All of the above is right, but i just spoke to Michelle, was was a leisure bay employee, now employed by dream maker...this is what I was told....leisure Bay no longer manufactures acrylic tubs. They are still in business, and are honoring warrenties. They are still buying and selling product as Leisure Bay and there are still 20 Rec Warehouses open, that plan to stay open. They will still be selling Leisure Bay spa, Celeberty line which will now be manufactured in Canada. The line has had several changes in how it is made, steel frame, abs floor, insulation etc. Dream maker is also having a line made from these same molds (these are the original leisure bay molds) with their own branding on them. Sunrise is another line manufactured at this canada plant. I asked about getting parts, for this has been difficult for everyone, and if they are honoring warrenties, we must be able to get a hold of someone in parts who responds back. She told me because they are not manufacturing the tubs in Lake mary anymore, it has been slow to get the parts, but they are getting them. She also gave me the managers (of the parts guy I have been calling) to let him know I am not getting a response. We are going to put a call in to him, will let you know what he says....but as of right now, there still is a leisure bay and rec warehouses and they will still have tubs they are offering.....
  22. we have found it varies greatly, depending on spa use, brand of bromine and age of water. We use the spa daily and go through about 5 tabs a week in a 500 gallon spa, at first. After the water is about 2 months old we have to put less tabs in. Since Bromine is "re-newable" the older water has quite a reserve built up and the bromine level starts creeping up as the new tablets "shock" and convert the used bromine into good bromine. Overtime, you will learn what your bromine demand is and it will become a bit easier
  23. Missed where he said he could run the space heater, sorry about that, thats what i get for multi tasking
  24. cool, so that wire you were talking about isnt needed for this control board then? I just hook in the 220v wiring where it says and then flip that last dip switch and I'm good to go? yes yes what would you recommend for wiring? I was going to use 6/3 outdoor wiring ($$/foot) since the manual states 50amp service in 220 mode. thats what you need, suggest an outside dissconnect, home depot has nice spa boxes for this oh yeah, since apparently leisure bay went under, just out of curiosity, how hard is it to get replacement parts for this tub? I'm pretty sure if either motor goes out I can just get another from grainger by going against their cross reference system like I've had to do for industrial washing machines in the past. parts are easy, the only difficult one is if you have crossfire jets my concern is the control board and/or the display board as everything else looks pretty generic inside. if the board goes bad, in most cases it is better to replace the entire control system. It does not cost a lot more than a board and has a better warrenty. thanks for the help by the way!
