  1. Jim, With all due respect, I really don't need a guru that has no information to offer up, to tell me to "call an electrician." I am a committed do-it-yourselfer, and if I wanted to hire this work out professionally, I would have obviously already done so. That is why I posted this on a spa help forum instead of picking up the Yellow Pages. I'm a skilled carpenter and tradesman, and I think I can handle the electrical work as I've done quite a bit of wiring on my own home that has passed inspection. As a matter of fact, a neighbor two houses down just had his spa wired up by an electrician, and guess what? You guessed it, he miswired the GFCI and then tried to blame the spa store for defective product when it was his fault (pun intended) all along. So I think I will do the wiring myself. It's not rocket science, and not dangerous if you have a brain and follow the rules-- just like anything else. Having said that, I did look at Dr. Spa's table and it really does not tell me what I need to know about wire gauge. The Sundance manual says use #6 wire for 50A, but says nothing about the length of the circuit, and my spa is over 15 ft. away from the subpanel with a half-circuit length of maybe 150 ft. total to the service. Dr. Spa's table says #8 THHN wire (run in PVC raceway by the way) is good for 55A, but that can't be right. There is a wire resistance calculator, but does not indicate what the rule is for voltage drop and going up to the next larger size wire, etc. So that is not much help either. By the way, this has nothing to do with my question, and I mean no offense. But the name looked familiar with something I read a few weeks back, so I Googled "James Arjuna" and you would not believe what I found. Check out "James Arjuna" for yourselves by using the Google box at the top of this page. Truly amazing stories. Any help from a pro or experienced do-it-yourselfer would be appreciated! WOW. Chip, I think you need to remember that you asked the question. The answers are free. (even if you don't like them.) No need to attack the people trying to help.
  2. Re Read the post. He has been speaking with that guy.
  3. So in answer to the original question, Our infinity Sun Peak is doing fine, we are loving it, it is holding heat and there is no significant increase in electric bills. Just curious, what state do you live in?
  4. The warranties on the Costco tubs are being handled by Infinity. If you call the hydro spa service number - 800-749-8003 (Which now says "Thank you for calling Premium Leisure service), the menu directs Costco tub owners (platinum 1, 2 or legend) to call 800-460-7798 (Infinity)
  5. The same way they ALL do... Now, back to the topic at hand. I have a meter which will work for 110 or 220 spas. It is not difficult to install, and I will rent it out. Actually I loan it out, but I charge shipping and handling of about $35. A restaurant named BLT Prime in NYC has a Japanese Kobe Beef burger for 62 bucks
  6. HUH WHOOOOA ....Rodger did you say Infinity is that why this is a "do it yourself" project on a new 5000.00 purchase. I am sorry Ken I did not know you did not have a dealer. Perhaps Soakerman can be of help here he seems to know all of the bandaids to use on these tubs.
  7. I would start by isolating (dissconnecting) one componant at a time with a hand full of fuses. Ozone first, air blower if equipped second and then pumps and heater. Once you have isolated all the components and if you still have a problem then steer towords the board. There are several levels of boards purchased by Balboa from the board manufacturer used in several different levels of controlers by Balboa. It is very very likely that Infinity uses a lower end board to reach a price point. But hey I have to be carefull as I will be accused of flaming or dissing a particular brand sold at a particular box store. So take this however you like but it is the truth. There are always comprimises made to reach price points. WHOOOOA ....Rodger did you say Infinity is that why this is a "do it yourself" project on a new 5000.00 purchase. I am sorry Ken I did not know you did not have a dealer. Perhaps Soakerman can be of help here he seems to know all of the bandaids to use on these tubs.
  8. There are no real numbers to say where they stack against the big makers but maybe volume wise they are on the first page now. I'm not sure that it means anything more than the fact that now make even more mediocre spas than before. In my opinion you are being generous when you say mediocre. But they sell alot of them because they are cheap. Or another option would be that they are pricing spas the way they should have been just like anything new such as Microwaves, lcd tv's computers, stereos ect. It's tough to justify a computer today that cost two thousand dollars when a thousand dollar one does the same with very good reliablilty today. Yet, just a few short years ago, people would easilly pay three thousand dollars for a good system and anything less then was unacceptable. Perhaps that's what the hot tub areana is going through now, a genesis of the way spas are sold and priced. http://www.poolspanews.com/2007/112/112topnews.html
  9. The owners of W-mart are the richest people in America, and no one sells for less. Greed and profitability do not necessarily go hand in hand with unethical, conscience-free business practices.
  10. not sure if this helps: platinumhottubs.com
  11. Search this board for an overall view of the company and there product. It has been hashed over thousands of times and both sides of the argument regarding there quality and overall longevity and build are represented. If you are interested in the Desire model I would definately go to a Costco store and get one for $4999.00 with ozone cover and lifter and stereo. it is listed as the Legend inthe Costco store and has a great level of finish and a solid spa pac and a stereo that would cost a easy $500.00 at a dealer. The spa and accesories would sell at a dealer in the range of 8k to 10k. What are you being quoted for the Desire spa sold by Hydrospa and what options are included? As far as I can tell, Costco no longer carries this brand of spas.

  13. Can you say "moderation"? I knew you could.
  14. Could it be that people are buying the less expensive tubs from places without salesmen?

  16. Beautiful setup! Do the dogs soak too? Enjoy
  17. <Bump> Any more hard news about this? My copies of Pool & Spa News seem to be disappearing before I can read them... http://topstories.troubledcompanyreporter..../200711215.html
  18. Good luck with the new tub. Happy Soaking!
  19. I have a "close friend" who opted pull a permit for his spa installation. He still regrets it. Turns out he needed 3 permits to complete the project - electrical, plumbing, and Construction. Additionally he was required to submit a survey to the zoning department to identify the placement of the spa on the property. (For a fee, of course.)
  20. Wow! You actually have an Infinity spa and can attest, first hand, as to it's performance. Please be aware that this may be dangerously close to the original topic of this thread.
