  1. The Moto-Massage drain leaks to my knowledge were only possibly an issue from 2009-2012 but I do not have any firsthand experience with 1990's Hot Spring. If you want to do the repair right it would involve putting the hot tub up on blocks and once it starts dripping from underneath follow the water back to the leak. If you patio isn't perfectly level, the leak could be in a completely different area.

  2. If water level and filters are not the problem, the two rows of dashes would usually indicate a pressure switch or circuit board problem and the pressure switch would be the more likely culprit. You could try "jumping" the pressure switch to see if the dashes go away. If so, replace pressure switch, if not, then continue troubleshooting. The dashes should not prevent you from being able to adjust the temperature on the display. When the hot tub was reading 105, what was it set for?

  3. Shhhhh They obviously had the spa running at some point...What happened to the electrical? (Red Flag) So what can you do... First fill it up and go back tomorrow. Next you will have to get at the back end of the pumps and remove the dust cover that is dead center of the back end of the motor. There you will see a slot for a flat head screwdriver (bring a finger sized flat head in case it is tight to access) place it in the slot and see if ALL the pumps will turn and are not seized. Bring a multi meter and test the heater element for continuity. Open panels and look for white chalky areas that indicate a past/present leak. Green areas around the base (algae) usually at a corner will indicate a leak as well. Very important to inspect the base of the spa for rot. We get Kijiji (Craigslist) buyers that ask us to move a spa they just bought online and we go to tip it up and the bottom falls out. Open the spa pack and look for darkened or burnt areas. What condition is the cover. If it is heavy... $500+ Remove and look at the filters...if they are gunked up it will tell you a little bit about how they cared for it. To hook it up 120V look at the schematic on the inside cover of the spa pack. Should tell you how to convert to 120V How will you move it? Is there a clear path to get it out of their backyard? But despite all this #1 rule when buying a used spa...Never buy a spa you don't see running and up to temp or it's buyer beware Rule #2 Free spas are never free. People get rid of them for a reason... usually a repair cost estimate. Good Luck

  4. The 3/8 inch line that drains the motossage jet could connect to many points in the plumbing as well, so just plugging it off will probably not do you any good. Most leaks are in the equipment area or drain fittings. Are you absolutely sure it's not just a shaft seal or drain cap o-ring?

  5. Hi TMC: One way to help eliminate the goo that is adhering to the shell is to mix some baking soda into a paste and place it in a small area at a time. Let is stand for 10 minutes and them take an old towel and soak it in white vinegar. Rub the area where the baking soda was placed. This will definitely help you out. People have no idea just how sticky this gunk is. Polysaccharides contribute to this because it is a bunch of sugar molecules. Please let the forum know how it works for you.

  6. Similarly, I buy 5500 watt heating elements for my 1988 CalSpa from Home Depot or Ace Hardware, considerably less than from spa dealer.
