  1. Hello, have what should be a simple question regarding our Hayward Pro 1.5 HP pump leaking from the basket cover when turned off. We typically run the pump 24/7 for our EW Millenium 15x30, no leaks, works great. When we shut it off to clean the pool, or empty the pump strainer basket, water leaks out (only when pump turned off) from the basket. When I say basket I mean the round portion that has the strainer with a circular cover with o-ring. The previous pump was replaced due to a bad bearing, and this one is new, with a new o-ring. I can prevent it from leaking (when turned off) by almost overtightening the basket lid, but my fiancee cannot open it to empty the strainer. Great pump, but with the economy as it is, and the probable installation of a timer, we can't have water leaking out when it's on it's off cycle. I haven't really lubricated the o-ring (thought I read that somewhere), and all I can guess is it's gravity feeding down from the pool out the basket lid. Only happens when it's turned off, and no air is leaking into pump when running. Can I stack a second o-ring on top of first for a tighter seal ?
  2. 117 views, no replies, doesn't look good.
  3. Forgot to post these when it was installed, but giving back to the PSF members, for anyone on the fence about getting a EW Millenium, and/or with the walk deck, and fencing.
  4. Back again to get some more GOOD info from you guys. Have had the Esther Williams Millenium for a few years now, and have not looked back. Well worth the money we spent. It is a 15X30 with the additional walk deck and fencing. We have some corrosion on a few of the end caps and the ladder mounts. Can't seem to find who carries replacement EW parts. Anyone have any info on this ?
  5. Just opened the new pool for it's 2nd season and had some questions I know the P&SF members must have some insight on. Questions: 1) Cleaning the alluminum deck/fencing. 2) Proper or best way to chlorinate. 3) Sand Filter damaged during initial install (last year) ?? 4) OMG what is that on my pool cover (winter cover/opening). 1. Cleaning the alluminum. During it's first closed season it suffered as most do, the typical, leaves, debris, bird droppings. The pool company (they closed and opened for us) mentioned that bleach cleaner would quickly cause the alluminum (decking, and wrap around fence) to oxidize and that Murphy's Oil Soap would put oil back into/onto the finish and help protect it better ?? The pool, deck, and fencing were rather expensive, so cleaning is a must, but doing it correctly is preferred. 2. Proper way to chlorinate. Last year (first season) we just dropped a big round tab in the return (per pool store's recommendation) and as it was used up, just added another. During the opening this year, the pool tech stated this would shorten pool liner life, and the return. He had recommended a floating unit which would be less efficient, but made a stronger recommendation on a "in line chlorinator" that went in line with the pump/filter, and had adjustable settings for levels. I think the idea was NOT to send intense chlorine into the pool, but dilluted (adjustable) before it entered pool. Not sure on this as we are getting mixed opinions on this. 3. Sand filter damged from install ?? Here's the one that's been bugging me since install (last year). Don't have the exact specs, but large sand filter, good pump, circulates well, but basically every day (morning) when we'd check the pool, there would be small amounts of fine sand, sitting on the bottom of the pool. We run the filter 24/7 due to trees, and a lack of a timer. Not huge piles, but enough to force a manual pool floor vacum every day. I had read about over calcium'ing the sand filter causing "tunneling" but on a brand new filter, that can't be it. The more likely issue would be a cracked plastic tube inside the sand filter. Don't know that much about them, but it seems there is a main tube (verticle), and many smaller (horizontal) tubes in the filter, and if one or more are cracked, would allow fine/sand back into the pool. I've read install instructions, stating you should initially fill sand filter with 1/3 amount of water, to submerge the (horizontal) tubes, and protect them while slowly adding sand. I think the original crew just dumped the sand. Filter cleans the pool, no strange pressure readings, noises, etc. 4. OMG what is that SMELL !!!!!!! OK, ok, this may just be par for the course, but this was our FIRST opening, just wanting to run this past you guys, to make sure WE, are not doing something wrong. Had the pool covered (AG, Ester Williams, with walkaround deck/fencing) and over the winter, had rain, leaves, light debris collect on cover. After it went past 2-3" of water, I pumped off to keep somewhat dry. We went out yesterday to pump off again (heavy rains, the day before pool. company came to open) and the water on top of cover (including leaves, bird droppings, etc.) was very smelly. This caused obvious nervousness when removing the winter cover, not wanting a single drop of this "stuff" to get into the pool. Are there any steps to avoid this, keep cover bone dry, toss some diluted chemicals on top of cover ?? Sorry for the multiple questions, but it's only our second season, so we're trying to get this down to a science. Thanks for any help you guys can give.
  6. Hello everyone, first post, and after just getting the Ester Williams installed, will probably be making quite a few more. After having had it up and running for a few weeks, now I was wondering what the best way would be to remove stains, bird droppings, etc, from the aluminum decking/rails. The aluminum has a textured surface, and I didn't want to use something too abrasive, either chemicals, or rough brushes. Does anyone have good results with anything in particular ? Thanks very much, and look forward to coming here more often. SD
