  1. Have you tried a clarifier to see if it would settle some of it so it could be vacuumed easier?
  2. You might try backwashing the filter prior to vacuuming. I know from my experience if the return isn't strong (check your pressure guage instead if you want), it means that the suction is diminished. As the previous poster stated, trapped air in the hose can cause issues big time. Make sure you have a steady stream of water coming out of the hose prior to placing the vacuum cover over the intake.
  3. I have tried them and found that they were worthless, in my opinion.
  4. We had one we used for approximately 3 years before we switched to a regular above ground pool. It is a good learning experience for anyone wishing to get a regular pool. I am glad I had that experience prior to our new above ground pool (it is used but new to us)!! Make sure you keep your filter clean and add the necessary chemicals ready and your kids will love you for it -- I know my grandkids thought I was a great granny letting them swim so much!!
