  1. I was looking at maax spas and it seems to me that the floor is not insulated except with a sheet of radiant (aluminized bubble wrap) sheeting. Also it seems like the top edge is not insulated very well either as the insulation did't seem to go to the very top couple of inches. I live in Canada so that is a no go for me but in warmer climates may be okay. A friend of mine bought one 3 years ago( the 4 or 5 seater) and has had no problems but he had to put 2 inches of high density styrofoam under it . It worked and he says it only seems to run on the filter cycles and doesn't seem to cost anymore than his older beachcomber to run, not an ideal way to insulate but worked ok . One thing that he likes on his maax is the prefilter .He cleans it once a week and rarely has to clean his main filter I am not sure what other spas use this but a good idea They like their spa and it still looks nice and clean
  2. Got It I finally decided to tank the access off the motor to find the yellow (neutral ) had come off on the way home from the repair shop . Plugged it in and voila
  3. I finally got all the leaks fixed in the old beachcomber tub and then the pump would only hum, so took it to get the motor repaired. The pump needed new internal switch and the tech said he checked the low speed and it also worked. they also put a new seal in the pump so should be good now, not quite. Now even though the thermostat works and also the flow switch works because i can energize the heater by pushing in the switch which energizes the contactor but only the element comes on It will not turn on the low speed to circulate the water . Any ideas what is up
  4. I am trying to get an old beachcomber tub running. The union that came out to supply the pump was leaking where the flexible pipe connects to the pvc union. So the fellow I bought it off got an internal coupler and cut off the flexpipe back a bit and glued some new pvc pipe and a new union on. Where he tried to glue to the flexpipe didn.t seal. He used the normal pvc glue for this which works ok on smooth pipe but this flexpipe is sort of spiral wound with ridges on the inside and outside. The original glue job looked like different type of glue. What do you use to glue to this spiral wound pipe to normal (smooth) pvc
  5. I think I will have to get a new breaker. Was just hoping that I wouln'nt have to spring for a new Breaker and then have no use for it later. 125 dollars buys a lot of beer I will be putting a spa disconnect in too I can still use the larger wire I have to get to the disconnect then the proper wire over to the spa Thanks a lot
  6. The tub has no receptacles just had a plug to go in a gfci that the previos owner had on the fence. So what i was wondering if the 50 amp Gfci that I already have in the main panel in the house would still function if I only pulled power off one pole giving me 120v out at the spa. Then could just disconnect the other wire from the 50 amp in the panel so it wouldn't be live Would the 50 amp double pole gfci breaker still function with only one side hooked up. This would give me 25 amps out at the spa but that should be alright I will try and post a picture tomorrow. I don't have any trouble installing breakers and running wire and such so I can do it easy enough
  7. I have a 50 amp 240v gfci in my panel from a previos spa and now have a smaller spa that only requires a 20 amp 120v . Is there any way that I can supply this spa with what I now have.I can see getting a bigger spa next year so didn't want to get a new 120 dollar breaker for only a short time
