  1. Changing my light has become a nightmare project. I expected to just pull the power cable through the conduit and pull a new one in. Turns out my pool guy added calk into the conduit from the light side. When I called him he said it was to keep the conduit from expanding in the winter and breaking or leaking. He also said there should only be about 4 inches of calk in there. We dug out at least 6 inches of calk and I still cant get the cable to budge. Any ideas on how to get this cable and conduit out?
  2. Does a spa light exist over 100Watts?
  3. I have a fiberglass in ground pool. Because of the curve my installer installed a spa niche at the end of the 40 foot length. He said the normal size light is known for leaking on my model. I have had 2 different LED lights in the pool since it was built. Both had the long cord and the whole unit just slid into the niche. Both were 500 to 800$ and a major brand name. Both have failed after a couple years use. I have been seeing LED bulbs online now. They are like 100$ and look like they are meant to screw into a normal bulb socket. My niche is just like a round opening and has no place to screw a bulb into. Is there a way to convert my niche so I can use one of these bulbs? Second question is a spa light does not do the best job lighting a 40 foot long pool. What's my best option to light this properly? Should I stay away from colors and go white? Is LED not good enough yet? Ted
  4. Yes my top just unscrews I will pull it apart when I get home. I plumbed out the heater this morning so I could keep running the pool. Not sure if I will still be able to tell if I need a blower. At this point if I need the blower and the tube sheet coil I am at $1k in parts. I have seen new heaters of this model go for $1600-$1700. When I figure the time it will take to repair it I am starting to think I am better off with a new one. This is really a bummer. I thought these heaters were the best out there. Should it not have lasted a lot longer than this? Is there a better option out there now? Ted
  5. The water is coming out the sides and the bottom etc. I have had it since 2007 and to be honest it has been great. When I look on line at the parts break out I see a thing called a tube sheet coil. I am guessing that has sprung a leak. Am I on the right track? has anyone changed one of these before? Is it hard?
  6. So I started this year out like many in the past. My in ground pool is just under 20k gallons. I bought shock based on the size and shocked the pool. Tested a couple days later and zero free chlorine. I read online and it said you need to get to whats called "superchlorination" with the shock and then you will start having free chlorine which is much more efficient. Also I need to add my PH is a little high. I am using the dip sticks to test everything. Everything I read said if you put too much chlorine the negative was the time it would take to swim before the levels came back down to normal. I figured better go with more than not solve the problem. Two nights ago I put 8 gallons of liquid chlorine in the pool and one of those half gallon containers of granuals. I did think right after that I started to see the free chlorine tab start to turn color a little but I was not sure. I just checked this AM and I STILL have zero free chlorine. I am at a loss. The water is perfectly clear. How do I get free chlorine in this thing??
