That is exactly what I did this evening!! Someone else gave me the same exact suggestion. I took a knee high and stuffed it with batting and hung the hose over the skimmer. I also discovered that Mr. Clean magic eraser takes the yellow stains right out without having to scrub (which is what I was doing with a cloth). Next is rain. Tonight is the 1st time it has rained since the pool was put up . Everyone tells me that the rain (not to mention the extra water I added - didn't realize it was going to rain) will throw the PH, TA, etc. off. Wish me luck tomorrow when I do the stick test. Hopefully, the reading won't be too off. Thank you so much for your suggestion!

I finally have crystal clear water!! The magnet liquid took out some more minerals but still left the water yellow. I then added jump start aka sparkle in some stores and overnight my water was clear of any yellow. I cleaned the filter cartridge which was disgusting. It took 15 minutes to get all the rust color out. The only problem that still exists is every so often there is a yellow stains around my pool and in the skimmer (at water level). But I realize this usually happens whenever I add water to the pool. But if this is the only problem till I close the pool, I will take it.

As of this morning, I decided to throw some magnet liquid in and right now the green looks lighter. Don't know if it is the shock or liquid magnet doing it. I have gone to two different places. One does the stick test using a computer generating results and the other does only the stick test. I will try another place and let you know what the results are.

I am a new pool owner (12' round, 52"). I just filled the pool with water 5 days ago and it turned green after it was filled. I was told to add 1 lb of akalinity and then greenaway shock. As soon as I added greenaway the water turned a darker green. The next day, there was sediment at the bottom and I added magnet liquid. Everything clumped up the next morning, vaccummed, backwashed and cleaned the filter which was full of particles and darty brown water. By day three, the water color lightened and I added sparkle and overnight the water was clear. Kids went in and next day the water was back to green. During this whole time, I was told my chlorine was too high because I added way too much. Day 5, I was told I had to add akalinity again, still too much chlorine and ph was low but not to add any yet. Day 6, akalinity ok, told to add 2 oz of ph+ and shock the water. They told me this should clear the green but I don't think it will. I checked skimmer and now there is a brown stain at the water level. I think it is still mineral but the pool place insists the shock will clear the green. Should I add more magnet liquid? Will it throw off the other chemicals? BTW I had to add more water after the kids came out. Could refilling be causing the green?
