I have a 24' round, above ground pool (this is the 2nd one in about 20 years. The most recent is about 3 years old). I have had a perpetual problem with small leaks. By the time spring rolls around, most of the water has leaked out of the pool and I have to pay to have water brought in. I have had a scuba diver come in and patch the vinyl, a company with sonar looking for leaks, but the leaks persist. The explanation (and probably the most plausible) is the area is infested with tiny red ants that find the sand and a ready source of water ideal living conditions. I have had an exterminator come in and have used ant pellets but the damage is done. I'd hate to just replace the vinyl since it would mean throwing good money after bad. I have thought about the possibility of a fiberglass insert. Does anyone know if that's a possibility (references would be helpful if so) or any other alternatives? Any useful suggestions would be much appreciated.
