  1. Yes, it can be done. Just go to the control panel and move the selector to "off". It will only generate in the auto or super cholrinate position. I would however try to get the water somewhat manageable before circulating through it. Just to keep it fairly clean and not fouled. Have your water tested first before you start adding anything. Add the amount of salt it calls for, and then shock it. Some may tell you that shocking is not necessary. I was told to just turn it to superchlorinate. That didn't work. Shock it first, then superchlorinate. Be careful not to "oversalt" your water. My aquatrol has a tendency to read about 500 ppm low.
  2. I have an Aquatrol RJ saltwater system and the salt reading seems to be off. It is flashing "low salt" but I have had my water tested at 2 different locations and they both say I am at 3200-3300 ppm. The reading on the display shows 2400. When I started up the pool I had a hard time getting the reading up. Once i did, it read 3200 but the pool store tests showed 4100-4300 ppm. Anybody else had this issue?
  3. Hello all. I was wondering how long I can run my suction piping to my pump from the pool. I have a 1HP pump with 1.5" hose. I want to locate the pump under my roof overhang but that will require about a 20' run of suction hose. Is that too long? My pool is 15K and I have a sand filter system.
  4. Thanks for the reply. How long does the slime bag last? Also, what do you mean by glass?
  5. Anyone got experience with Zeosand? I have a sand filter and I was wondering if it was worth the extra cost to fill it with zeosand instead of regular silica. I know that all advertisements say zeosand is way better, but it is good enough to justify the cost difference?
  6. Hello all. I am installing a Legacy 17*29 rectangle above ground portable pool.(http://www.legacypoolsusa.com/legacypools.html). I was wondering if anyone has any experience putting in this type of pool? I have cleared the ground and it says that it can tolerate up to 3" out of level. The issue is, each of my ends are pretty close to level but I have about a 2" low spot right in the middle. It says to remove dirt instead of add, but that would mean pulling out 2" of dirt around the whole perimeter for what is just about a 3' circle. Would it be okay to back-fill that area with sand?
  7. I would suggest getting a portable pool. Arthurspools.com sells several different types. After extensive research, I decided on this type. My wife is a realtor and believe it or not, a hard side above ground pool actually reduces home value. With a portable pool, there is no liner to change out and they can be ordered in rectangle, round, or oval. Also when you decide to sell your home, it can easily be taken down and moved to your new home or sold. You can also put it up yourself as long as your yard is somewhat level (up to 3" difference). I ordered the Legacy 17x29x52" for $2300 delivered. It's huge.
  8. I am getting a new above ground pool. It is the portable pool (kevlar type material) and can be used with a saltwater system. My question is twofold. First, is there any saltwater system that stands out as better/worse than the rest for above ground pools? Also, is there any real differnece between an RJ connection and the HP connection? The HP connection types seem to cost more, but I can't see why?
  9. Thanks again for the help. My pump choices are AO Smith, Waterway, and Advantage Mfg. My pipe suction and discharge are both 1.5" I'm not sure how much water I can move through that size pipe but I doubt it is enough to exceed a 19" or 24" sand filter. So based on this and what you guys have told me, a 1HP pump and 24" sand filter should work fine and still give me enough flow for sufficient backwashes? Also, does anyone have experience with these pumps? I do have the option of going with a 100 or 120sq ft cartridge filter if that would be better.
  10. The 1HP pump should work fine with your 24" sand filter and 16K gallon pool. Thanks. I have heard that a sand filter can be too big or too small. I am finding difficulty getting consistent answers from pool pump manufacturers. Is it even to my advantage to upgrade to a 24" filter or will the 19" be fine?
  11. Hello all. I am purchasing a new above ground portable pool. It is the legacy 17x29x52" - about 16000 gallons. I am not sure which pump and filter combo I should pick. It comes with a 1HP pump and a 19" sand tank. I can upgrade to either a 24" tank, a 1.5 HP pump, or both. I was thinking of keeping the 1HP pump but increasing the filter size to 24". What do you guys think? Can the 1HP pump handle it?
