  1. I was wondering if the La-Z-Boy limited which was sold exclusively through Costco, is the same quality as the high end La-Z-Boy line (Premier Spa Line) that was not sold through Costco. I have a La-Z-Boy and retail on it was 13,000. I know they are both made by Tatum Manufacturing, I was just wondering if they put better components and better quality into the regular line vs. the limited...... or are they both throw away hot tubs? Here is a link to the exact model I have , would appreciate any comments on it, thanks. http://www.product-reviews.net/2008/01/31/...spa-collection/
  2. I really do want one...I was thrilled to win it, I have always wanted one., then I made the mistake of reading the reviews of the model, at first I said ok,, no big deal, I have a warranty in case something goes wrong, then that went , I was just thinking of selling it for a better band that will last more then a "few" years. I see many people with Hot Springs or Sundance that are happy and have had them for 15 yrs plus, with little problems...there is no way, I can get that out of mine. I guess I don’t know much about hot tubs, but I do know I would rather reinvest in one that will last and of known quality instead of a model that will last 2 to 3 yrs. Would it be worth it to get what I can for it, save my money and buy a Hot Springs or Sundance? Or just go for it on this one and hope for the best and get my 2 to 3 yrs out of it? Also id like to add that La-Z-Boy Hot Tubs were not made very long so its hard to get a review on them,,,but the maker Tatum Manufacturing is all over the net and not for good reasons. I do appreciate everyone’s input, this is a great forum, lots of information for newbie’s like me...thanks again.
  3. I would not pay more for a tub just because it's wrapped in plastic. The extra value of a new tub is in the warranty. Good point...I dont even know if it works.
  4. I have a budget for the set up and electrician, thats not a problem...the problem, would be if it leaks, and has electrical problems, or just an all round lemon which Tatum Manufacturing was known for. For those of you that buy new and your manufactures is still in business, you make one phone call and someone is at your door to fix it, No Charge... (See warranty).......that could be the difference of thousands of dollars. I just don't have much faith in Tatum products; everything I read about their tubs is a horror story. Yes any tub can have problems but with a warranty you’re covered and if I purchase a better brand of Tub the chances of problems decreases substantially. I didn’t win a Sundance or a Hot Springs that stand by their product and make quality tubs , we are talking about the makers of Gulf Coast, Hydro Spa ,Living Water Pilates H20, Freestyle, Garden Leisure, Shoreline, Centurion and Cool Night,,,,Im sure you know more about Tubs than I do but even in my brief research, no one, and I mean no one, had anything good to say about these Tubs...
  5. Congrats on winning. First thing I would do it check on your tax thing. I know here in PA if you win something like that we are not responsible for the taxes. You are right you won't see the return of money if you sell it. If it were me I would set it up and use it. There are tatum tubs out working good. The tv and radio part won't last long, but most intergrated stuff like that doesn't when its in a spa. Any good spa service man can fix them and nothing strange was used in building them. I think Lazy Boy spas used Gecko controls and prob Gecko/Aqua-Flo pumps. I know you are worried because of the no warranty and most home warranty companies do not cover portable spas some might check around. I would hope that Lazy Boy had some sort control of quality so not to damage there name and whats to say you won't get a lemon of a spa from the well made brands, Its rare but does happen. Well, if I got a lemon with new spa I call and they come service it, as it’s under warranty. With the one I got now, I’m out of luck. I guess that’s the major difference.
  6. Well. The thing is, I can’t afford an expensive repair if it happens to have a leak or some other problem... and from what I heard Tatum made junk that last an average of 4 to 5 years before having problems, and that’s if you’re lucky. Lots of horror stories about them If I bought new, any problems for the first couple of years would be taken care of. You may have bought used but did you buy a used Tatum product? I feel there might be a big difference in quality as Tatum's name is not known for good products from the best I can tell. I suppose if something is going to go wrong it will happen soon after set up....thing is, if I set it up...then it considered used and I will get even less for it, as of right now its new and never been used so it worth more to potential buyers. So what I’m asking is...considering it a Tatum product and you don’t have a warranty since the company is now gone and you don’t have the cash flow to fix potential problems that might arise for the first year or so,,,should I sell it and buy new and get warranty? Or does anyone know of any company that would sell me a warranty for it?
  7. I would appreciate some advice for a dilemma I have. I am new to the Hot Tub world and know very little about them, so please excuse my ignorance. I have a New La-Z-Boy Hot Tub that I won several months ago through a promotion with Lazy Boy. I won it a year ago but had trouble receiving it as no one from La-Z-Boy or the now defunct Tatum Manufacturing could explain why it took over 6 months to get it to me. First excuse was shipping problems, then it was they couldn't find a truck for shipping, you get the idea. I finally received it, then a few weeks later Tatum Manufacturing went belly up, therefore leaving me holding the bag on the warranty. Here is my question. I have heard Tatum Manufacturing was known to make basically junk as far as hot tubs go.I cant afford to set it up and find out later something isint working or it has a leak since it no longer has a warranty. The retail on the tub was 13,000, and this is the amount I have to claim on my taxes. I know if I sell it I wont get half that but, at the same time I'm worried the tub might have a problems,, I really don't know since its still sitting my garage wrapped the way they shipped it to me. Should I try to sell it and get what I can for it then go buy, a Hot Springs or some other well made brand with a warranty? Or should I set it up and hope for the best? I won't be able to afford the one like I have now with all the bells and whistles, but I really don't need all that plus its just something that can break down the line. The lazy Boy has , stereo, speakers, TV the whole 9 yards, what it doesn't have is a warranty.I really appreciated everyones opinion on this as I really don't know what to do, should I chance it? Or go with the sure thing?....If I sell, it I will have to wait until I can save enough to purchase a new model but it might be worth the wait for the security of a warranty .I'm Just wondering if Tatum Manufacturing knew they were going out of business and just threw the hot Tub together quickly to send to me, therefore fulfilling their responsibility to La Z Boy's contest. No sooner did I receive the tub and Tatum Manufacturing was gone. Thanks everyone for your thoughts and ideas.
