  1. Its an H Series electric. Not exactly sure of the year but about a 2003 model.
  2. I have never worked on a pool heater, most of my customers have theirs already disconnected and bypassed. A new customer has a hayward gas heater and everything comes on except it won't lite and you can smell gas after about 30 seconds or so. I'm assuming these heaters have a thermocouple to prevent gas from flowing untill a pilot light or igniter is lit. Is that true? If so am I probably just going to have a gas leak in the main feed lines coming into the heater? Haven't had a chance to try and detect a leak yet just figured I'd try and get some help and ideas before I get over there. Thanks for any suggestions!
  3. I appreciate all the feedback, I'm new to the industry and this question was actually for a customer of mine so I'll have to let him decide on which way to go. He is considering a unit that is not one of the major name brands and its been hard for me to find any info on them, my biggest concern would be that one of these cheaper models, (its a freon type unit) is that it would slow down the turn over rate of the pool and wind up being a pain in my butt to keep his pool water clear. Thanks again for all the feedback!
  4. I'm wanting some information on pool chillers. I've been told they'll drop the temp of a pool about 15 degrees, is this true. I live in East Texas and we've had a stretch of 100+ days and everyones pools are about 93 - 97 degrees. Any info would be much appreciated!
  5. I have a similar question, what if the pump runs completely dry after 12-24hrs of operation? The pressure gauge on the sand filter will show about 30psi but no water is flowing at all. I can turn the pump off, turn the multiport valve to backwash, the pump will prime itself and backwash normally, then when I put the vavle back to filter everything works fine and the pressure goes back down to normal. About 12hrs later, the pump once again has no water in it and is running dry with a psi showing around 30!
  6. Yeah I understand, there has got to be a simpler way to counter act CYA levels. Draining is such a pain, especially if your on a city water supply!!
  7. I'm thinking your right also, this direct sunlight and high temps is hard to deal with. Do you use a chlorinator, it seems to help me a bunch!
  8. Great! I appreciate the help. On the Borates, how often do you add it?
  9. I have been using Tri-chlor tablets and granules for years and they seem to work fine except of course the CYA problems. I have recently found that Di-chlor granules are cheaper and I'm thinking about switching, whats the difference between the two? And is there a downside to using di-chlor granules along with the Tri-chlor tablets? Also, whats the maximum chlorine level for a pool that is safe to swim in? Thanks for the help!
