I have tried 2 types:
Spazzaz Crystals - good but works out expensive as you have to put a lot in 2-4 heaped cap fulls but it didnt seem to effect my water in any way
Liquid based - I cant remember the name, this was very good as you only needed a little bit and you got lots of aroma but it did clog my filters up a lot
As said, it depends on how your spa controller behaves.
On mine I can set the filtration (circ pump) time from 0-24 hours but it will still activate it for heating if required even if set to 0
It also depends on how much water you circ pump shifts per min if it is a really small pump you may need to have it on a lot to get the required level of filtration.
Ok thanks Richard.
That all seems to make sense.
I think I will try knocking it down 30mins at a time and see how it goes.
My spa pack splits the filtration time over the whole 24 hours eg 4 hours would be 10 mins each hour so I shouldn't have too many issues with circ.
Hi Richie,
I am in the UK and its ture new spa's are vastly over priced here.
If I were to do what you are looking at, I would have a look on ebay for a 2nd hand tub or even a shell you can refurb you should be able to pick up one quite cheap, they come up quite often and it would save you a lot of time in the long run.
failing that you can pick up a decent quality new spa if you avoid the main players for about £2k-£3k as I did.

Hi All,
I know in pools people say you should have x amount of turnover.
In spas it seems to be more you need to filter for x hours a day.
Why is this?
I have worked out:
My circ pump is 150l per min it is on for 4 hours a day:
150 x 60 x 4 = 3600
my tub is ~1200L so therefore my water is being turned over 30x a day.
This seems a lot? can I cut this down, I have no issues with water quality and I use the tub a lot.
I know this circ pump is bigger than a lot of smaller circ pumps fitted to spas.
I have been looking in to these recently.
My main concern is that they will not provide enough sanitation during use. As it says in some of the spa pilot info:
So it would seem that you need to shock the tub before and after this must surely negate quite a bit of the cost savings of such a system?

My tub has a drain valve im not sure if it is blocked but I only get a slight trickle im sure it would take about 3 days to empty that way.
The best thing to do as Dave said is chuck 2/3/4 lengths of hose pipe in and syphon it out.
then I use a tub to scoop the last bits out and a towel to get the final dregs.
I love the lights in mine, it is a big part of the tub for me.
It does 30 different colours apparently and a few different modes, FADE, SWITCH, PARTY etc and has about 5 brightness settings and you can change all the timings etc.
The only way it could be better is if I had more than 1 light in the tub as the way it is placed is at a funny angle and doesn't totally light up the whole tub
I was thinking of building a system based on this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PH-ORP-REDOX-CONTROL...alenotsupported
using the ORP value to control a solenoid to pump the water through an inline bromine feeder when needed and also use the PH side of things to up the PH when needed with a peri pump.
I decided in the end that the maintenance using bromine isnt really that much of a chore and it wasn't worth bothering.
I have found somewhere that sells it in the UK:
http://www.swimmingpoolchemicals.co.uk/pro...products_id=530
and their unbranded chemicals seem to be a little cheaper so im going to give it a go.
