  1. We would like to start our inground gunite pool before the rain starts and we end up with a prolonged muddy mess. Does anyone have any reccomendations on contractors? We are currently working with Master Pools and Tahiti Pools but would like 2 or 3 more quotes from reputable dealers. Our preference is having a contractor that does things in-house to avoid scheduling conflicts and such messes with each phase, especially since we need to have them coordinate with landscapers and patio installers as well. Thanks for any input!
  2. Still trying to sort it all out here in sunny CA! Next point of confusion is filters. One contractor told us that the DE filter is a much easier and cost effective way to go. The other says that they are labor-intensive when they need to be cleaned, will ruin the landscaping (which will be new, btw) and they are being phased out in favor of a 4 cartridge system with a cost difference of roughly $100. I need some input here please! The DE seems to me to be the easiest and least expensive in that there are no cartridges to replace at $200 each. In fact, it's almost too good to be true, when combined with the ease of a salt water chlorinator. Maybe I am under a misconception here, but can it all really be that simple? My suspicious side says, NO WAY! Please help?!?!?!!?
  3. This is driving me nuts! We are in the midst of having estimates done in CA for our pool with a waterfall along with landscaping and a patio installed. We have been told by 2 different contractors that they can do great waterfalls, and the pics we have seen are nice. When talking with the landscaper, we were told not to have the pool guys do it because they don't know how to do it right. Just have them put in the pad and let the landscapers do it. I realize that they are both out to make the extra money for the waterfall, but I would like to get some input on what others have done with their waterfalls and who they went with to do it. I would like to have the best one we can get, of course, but I am just not certain if I should trust the contractor or the landscaper with this water feature. I certainly don't want some monolithic clump sitting on the edge of my pool, but I also don't want to pay more than I have to. It is a sticky situation since it isn't possible to tell what it will look like until it is all said and done. Any input is greatly appreciated!
