remcd88 Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 Hi! My husband and I are considering a gunite pool. We live in Southern NH. We have gotten one quote so far. What are some reputable companies and which ones should we stay away from and why? What are some important components for the pool that are necessary and which ones could we install at a later date? Thanks, remcd88 Quote
JLR Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 Hi, My husband and I also live in southern NH and are thinking about installing a gunite pool. At first we were looking into fiberglass pools but I can't find documentation about their longevity in regards to the gelcoat finish so ... now we're considering gunite. So far I've only contacted Environmental Pools but I'm already not happy with their customer service. I specifically told the man that took my call that my husband and I can be reached at our daytime/work number, don't call the home number...and the next night when we got home there was a message from the pool salesman. The next business day which was Mon. 7/23 my husband called Environmental Pools. He explained to the woman that answered the phone that he was hoping to get in touch with the salesman to set up an appointment. On 7/24 my husband called the cell phone number that the salesman provided (on the message he left at our home number) and left another message to call regarding an appointment. Well today is Wed. 7/25 and we haven't heard from anyone. There just isn't anyway I would entrust such an expensive undertaking to this company. I will be calling Custom Pools of NH and South Shore Gunite next. I hope I have better luck! Have you contacted any companies yet? Quote

remcd88 Posted August 7, 2007 Author Report Posted August 7, 2007 Dear JLR, We've contacted 5 companies, South Shore Gunite, Environmental Pools, Custom Pools, Yankee Pools, and Quality Design Pools. We had the same response from Environmental. When I finally got a hold of someone and made an appt., they called 20 min past when they were supposed to show up and said they wouldn't be there. They gave us a quote over the phone and was the highest one. We had the hardest time getting the quote back from Custom Pools and then they took forever to answer any of our questions. I liked south shore but they were a lot higher than the others. We heard some negatives about Yankee and I didn't really click with the owner. We haven't signed yet but I think we are going to go with Quality Design. They were very nice, answered all of my questions in a timely manner and seemed to want our business, something I didn't feel from Custom or Environmental. Yankee hasn't called back since they gave us the quote and South Shore didn't want to meet the bid from Quality. Plus Quality never tried to badmouth other companies with "Some companies may tell you" or "Have you checked the other companies references" or "Be careful with other companies that..." They seemed to rely on their qualifications and benefits. Who have you spoken with and what have they said? We're in Concord. Where are you located? remcd88 Quote
JLR Posted August 9, 2007 Report Posted August 9, 2007 Hi, We're in Epping. Environmental Pools actually called and we had an appt. with them last Saturday. He spent more time telling us who they've already installed pools for (anyone with a name) than anything else. They came in at $20,000 more than Custom Pools. Because of the area which we live an automatic pool cover is a certain if we were to have an inground. There are too many smaller animals that would breeze through a fence and end up in the pool. But those covers are so expensive and then with all the other expenses like the fencing and increase in taxes we started to consider the alternatives. Anyway, I think we're going to go with a 16'x32' Gibraltar pool. When we retire maybe we'll get that inground! Good luck. Quote
Ferndog2k Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 Hi all, My wife and I are located in Exeter, NH and had a gunite pool put in last year. We had a great experience with Northern Pool & Spa: http://www.northernpoolandspa.com I recommend getting two or three price quotes and definitely setting up a meeting in person... most times that is all you will need in order to make an educated decision.
