weeks Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 We added vitamin c to our pool. The stains sre gone. What do we add to keep them gone. To we add c every week or is their yet another product to buy and try. We have a salt water system. Any thoughts would be great. Quote
waterbear Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 To make sure the stains don't return add a metal squesterant like Proteam Metal Magic or Jack's Magic to your pool on a regular bais ( weekly to monthly, you have to experiement and see how long you can go without the stains returning). Also keep watch on your pH. High pH will contribute to the stains returning. If you start to see the stains coming back often all you need to do is drop the pH to about 7.0 and add a treatment dose of sequesterant and they will disappear if you catch it just as they are starting to reappear. MikeG Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 Did you buy your vitamin c online? I'm looking for a good place to buy some cheap.. i.e. not a pool store! Quote
weeks Posted June 9, 2007 Author Report Posted June 9, 2007 I used vitamin c 1,000mg ( generic brand) straight from the drug store. I boiled it in a pot of water and put in the pool. 12 hours later the entire pool was white and clear. The side, stairs and seats of the pool were stained in brown. It was a huge deal for us. Quote
ccdan Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 Let me get this right. Boil about 1,000 mg of Vit C tablets from the drug store and put in your pool? How many gallons of water did you treat? Did it do anything else to water chemistry? Quote
waterbear Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 I would not suggest that because you don't know what is in the tablets as binders, buffers, etc. Pure ascorbic acid powder can be had for about $10/lb from many internet suppliers. You don't even need the food grade. Quote

Deplete chlorine, use ascorbic acid, followed by Stain X or similar product, and then backwash. Once a year, usually right after opening should do it unless your water is particularly high in minerals that stain. Quote
