themow Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 There were 2 bottom plates on my spa. The lower one fell off during the move. The second one is rotted badly but still intact. I want to put a few nailers in place to hold everything together then remove the 2nd bottom plate and replace it with treated lumber. Can anyone provide any insight? I dont want to comprimise the structural ridgidity of the unit. Thanks Quote
PreservedSwine Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 It may have a leak somewhere. You should be able to pry out any rotted wood, and toe-nail in another 2x. As long as it's empty, don't worry about structural issues, but you want to replace that rotted wood before you fill it up. Quote
Spa_Guru Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 Spa cabinets are typically built onto a spa when the spa is upside down in the factory, and the type of cabinet varies widely with manufacturers, Most are simply held together with staples, so replacing rotted components should be relatively simple, however, don't be surprised if you end up having to replace the entire cabinet to properly fix the frame. themow Posted June 13, 2013 Author Report Posted June 13, 2013 Do you think it's OK to rebuild on its side or should I flip it all the way over? Quote
PreservedSwine Posted June 13, 2013 Report Posted June 13, 2013 Flipping it over would probably be easier Quote
