EddiePitts Posted May 17, 2013 Report Posted May 17, 2013 Last year I switched my pool from chlorine treatments over to Ezpool. I liked the way that it made my skin feel and I like the less amount of chemical maintenance. However this year when I removed the winter cover, the bottom of the pool had a powdery purple residue. I vacuumed it to waste and the water looks clear. However if you vacuumed too fast the motion would make the powder to disperse in a cloud. My wife actually works at the pool store and she said that the water checks good except the ph was slightly down and there is no excess metals or copper showing in the water. Neither she nor her co-workers has any idea what it could be. Quote
waterbear Posted May 24, 2013 Report Posted May 24, 2013 sounds like you precipitated out copper cyanurate, aka "purple haze" . How high was your CYA (and is your primary chlorine source trichlor)? ezpool is a copper based algaecide mixed iwth a non chlorine oxidizer and a flocculant , nothing more. You still need a primay santizer (chlorine) if you want sanitized water. Period! If you are not maintaining your water properly such as monitoring CYa levels ) then you can see the results. You are lucky it did not stain the pool surfaces purple, which is the usually case! Quote
