Automatic Cover Repair Tips

I have a Safety Cover ll by Cover Pools and last fall the cover got twisted the wrong way about 1/2 way in. I was able to manually get the pool covered but now my cover is not attached to the roller (I disconnected it)nIt seems as though there are only anchor screws on the ends, is that correct? What is the bet way to go about attaching and testing the uncover feature? It was like the drum was turning the wrong way when I had my trouble in the fall. Do I just let it roll up however it wants to or is it important that I make sure it is coming in the top over the roller as it uncovers? Strange dilema and I really appreciate any input. FYI, up intil now I have not messed with the cover at all, it has just worked. The cover is about 10 years old. Thanks
