No Pressure On Return

Hi, just bought a new house with pool and i nust got a new pump installed now my pool pump has no pressure on the return, when I recirculate, back wash and rinse it has normal pressure when I switch to filter and suction I get hardly any pressure and water spits out of the top of the sand filter and bubbles at 2 of the of jet feeds,since its a new pump and the pool is under cover I wouldn't expect any blockage but will check the guy that installed pump said it was either not big enough for the pool or maybe one of the pipes is being squeezed by palm tree roots please help I forked enough out on this pump as it is..
