tom.burns60 Posted April 27, 2013 Report Posted April 27, 2013 I am pulling my hair out here. Ignitor has burned out but I can not figure out how to gain access. Ignitor is on the back side of the unit. THe heater tube directly below the ignitor will not slide out, I'm guessing, because the ignitor bracket is screwed to the enclosure. I cannot find what should be a sensible access to remove & replace the ingitor. Looking for some help. Sincerely, TOM Burns Quote
Pool Clown Posted April 28, 2013 Report Posted April 28, 2013 Hi Tom, welcome to the forum. Can you provide manufacturer and model of the heater? Quote
tom.burns60 Posted April 29, 2013 Author Report Posted April 29, 2013 Spa Guru, Thanks for the reply. I was able to think thru the process and figure out how to pull the burner tray out & replace the ignitor. (Really poor manual supplied with unit). I posted my next hurdle yesterday which I'll touch on here. After reinstallation of the burner tray I am still not getting ignition. Blower comes on, gas valve opens but no fire. I pulled the leads to the new ignitor and I'm getting the proper resistence with my Ohm meter so i'm guessing my problem is upstream of the ignitor. One note: This all came about when I found the pool was not operating. The breaker on the main panel had tripped. My ignitor was bad; heating element was broken. Might have been a result of what ever caused the breaker to trip. I'm guessing I need to look at the Fenwal Ignition Control. Is there a way to troubleshoot this this? The heater cycles three times then errors out with an "AGS" error code. The LED on the ignition control blinks three times indicating an ignition lock out. My heater is a Jandy LX400N-L. Thanks, tom.burns60 Quote
Pool Clown Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 If the gas valve is indeed opening( good way to check is if you smell gas out the blower exhaust for a moment AFTER YOU HEAR THE VALVE CLICK), you also need to verify that the igniter is glowing when supplied with voltage. Cracked/broken OOB igniters are not common, but possible. Cracked igniter may sill give resistance when checked so best to visually test. Quote
