Hi,

Newbie here, seems I've read so much info on threads I now know just enough to NOT do it right :) Family of five with three kids.

My hot tub is 300 gal / 7 person tub. Has ozone and vision cartridge.

Added metal gon and vision cart 48 hrs later.

After filling with city water my TA was about 180 and PH was >8. I have a Taylor 2006 on order and using strips til it arrives.

After a couple tspns of acid TA looked like it dropped to120ish (24 hours later) and pH around 7.8

Have used the tub about 6x, every time after I have added 1/2 scoop chlorine (spa 56). Had a heavy bather load last night (6 for 1 hr) and added 1 scoop chlorine. All reading from strip look good this morning but water looks a little cloudy.

I dont want to start adding stuff I dont need but want to add the right stuff.

Before getting the tub my plan was to use MPS after every use and add chlorine once a week or so. My dealer advised me to do the opposite, using chlorine after every use and MPS once a week (shock).

Can you please advise me what the best route is?

I can get you more accurate readings when the taylor kit arrives.

Much appreciated,

Mike

LOL, Copy....

The scoop I'm using is leisure time, 1 scoop = 6 teaspoons

I'm more curious why some say recommend shocking with MPS 1 x week and adding chlorine after every use

VS.

Shocking with chlorine 1 x week and adding MPS after every use

Gets confusing ??? :)

Using MPS as the regular disinfectant only works well when using a silver ion system such as Nature2. If using chlorine as the primary disinfectant, then it's usually not necessary to use MPS at all, especially if one is using the Dichlor-then-bleach method.

The Vision (D1) cartridge outputs silver ions so you can use MPS as the primary disinfectant in that case and use chlorine "as needed", usually once a week or two to keep the water clear, depending on bather load. It's similar to Nature2 -- I think the cartridge lasts longer as the only significant difference.

The advantage of using a silver ion system with MPS is that it minimizes the amount of chlorine or other halogen used in the spa. So for those concerned about chlorinated (or brominated) disinfection by-products then it's an option. The disadvantage is that it is more expensive and MPS itself can be irritating to some though when used with silver ions it's less likely to be irritating (the most irritating component in MPS gets broken down in the presence of silver ions).
