Rockfish Posted February 3, 2013 Report Posted February 3, 2013 I have a Hayward booster pump that stopped working. It was making a real loud noise for about a week while the outside temp was about 20 degrees out. Now when I turn it on it just makes a soft buzz and then clicks off. Any ideas or is it locked up and I probably need a new pump? Quote
Pool Clown Posted February 3, 2013 Report Posted February 3, 2013 I could be the motor, or the pump. I only say the pump because of the recent weather. If you are inclined, disassemble the pump from the motor. Once disassembled to the point where all you have is the motor, turn the motor on. It will either run relatively quiet, make the noise it has been, or hum and trip the internal thermal. If it makes the noise, or humms, you will need to replace the motor, seal, and/or possibly the impeller.. Quote
Rockfish Posted February 7, 2013 Author Report Posted February 7, 2013 If it's the motor do you think it's worth replacing or just replace the whole thing. Only about 60.00 difference. Thanks for the reply. Quote
LegsOnEarth Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 Buy a new one, and get a Letro p/n LA01N. The haywards are kinda garbage, at least in my opinion. Quote
william22 Posted March 25, 2013 Report Posted March 25, 2013 there few good brands are available in the market. onga pool pump, paintair pump, deavy master and many automatic pool cleaners are available. try one from these. Quote

If you want to get involved with the plumbing, get the whole pump. If not, replace just the motor. Quote
