I have a Hayward booster pump that stopped working. It was making a real loud noise for about a week while the outside temp was about 20 degrees out. Now when I turn it on it just makes a soft buzz and then clicks off. Any ideas or is it locked up and I probably need a new pump?

I could be the motor, or the pump. I only say the pump because of the recent weather. If you are inclined, disassemble the pump from the motor. Once disassembled to the point where all you have is the motor, turn the motor on. It will either run relatively quiet, make the noise it has been, or hum and trip the internal thermal. If it makes the noise, or humms, you will need to replace the motor, seal, and/or possibly the impeller..

If it's the motor do you think it's worth replacing or just replace the whole thing. Only about 60.00 difference. Thanks for the reply.

If you want to get involved with the plumbing, get the whole pump. If not, replace just the motor.
