robquick Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 Hi, I'm trying to balance my water the Alkalnity is currently sat at 65 and Ph at 7.9. Can I simply use Ph reducer to bring the Ph back in line or will this reduce the Alkalinity to much ? Any help appreciated. Rob. Quote
chem geek Posted January 31, 2013 Report Posted January 31, 2013 pH reducer, which is just dry acid (sodium bisulfate) will lower both pH and TA, but if you don't have borates in the water then adding acid to lower the pH to 7.5 would only lower the TA to 60-62 ppm depending on CYA level (if any). If your pH tends to rise, you can lower the TA further to 50 ppm and also use 50 ppm borates as an additional pH buffer. Quote
robquick Posted January 31, 2013 Author Report Posted January 31, 2013 My CYA is currently 40, is it ok to run the tub with the Alkalinity at just over 60? Thanks. Quote
chem geek Posted February 3, 2013 Report Posted February 3, 2013 Yes, you could even run it lower than that if you were to add borates. Quote
